“I absolutely love this place. It reminds me of my childhood. I love an old school feel, nothing fancy just like my childhood Food was great. Staff was friendly. I found my new favorite Chinese buffet. Suggestion maybe some music playing other than that I love it❤️❤️“

“This was such a cute little family owned restaurant. While it looked like most people picked up for delivery, you can eat in and they give you paper plates. We ordered the popcorn chicken which had fried basil in it and it was so unexpected and delicious! My littles loved the stir fry noodles. Also unexpected was what they called Chicken Chili stir fry! The pork belly melted in our mouths!! Absolutely delicious. We will be back“

“We hadn't been to this restaurant in a while because the last time wasn't good at all. The place seemed unkept and old. The food was not good. What a turnaround! The menu was new and the food came out hot, and was everything tasted wonderful. Will be going back more often again.“

“NO vegetables in Shrimp St. Paul sandwich. Sweet & Sour Shrimp was 1 container of plain white rice, NO vegetables anywhere, the "shrimp" (2/3 plain fried breading & 1/3 shrimp) was NOT cooked in sweet & sour sauce, and packed separately. Quality is now abominable.“

“Thank you Xièxiè nǐ! for one of the best customer service experiences since being back in the area! Your smiles and words shone during ordering, and when you came out to bring me our food! The egg dishes, such as St. Paul's and Egg Food Young, seem to contain double the eggs compared to other restaurants. I will be back to try the Teriyaki Chicken as you requested! Also, I love your presentation with the egg foo young! It keeps the egg warmer!“

“First time visiting and absolutely agree with the 5-star rating average!
We ordered a bunch of stuff (see pics) and loved almost all.
First to hit the table were the pumpkin sambosas. I've had a good number of sambosas and samosas in my time. These were among the best. Also interesting was the dusting of powdered sugar on what was otherwise a savory dish. It worked very well. This was my best bite of the night.
Next up: spring rolls. I was a fan but the others weren't.
Somewhere in there we decided to order a pot of their house special tea. It was really flavorful and the aroma turned heads at other tables. The price seemed a bit steep (no pun intended) but it was definitely worth the price. Strongly recommend trying the special tea.
I think the lamb kabobs were next. Minimum order of three and there were three of us so it made sense. At least until the wife declared she didn't want hers. I split them with the kid and we both really enjoyed the meat and the onions dusted with that red spice blend (not sumac) with a name I can't remember. Lamb was seasoned nicely and tender. Important to note is the portion is in line with the price. If you want to eat lamb for your meal, you'll want to order a bunch of the little skewers.
Laghman beef in brown sauce was next. Really tasty and full of great stuff. Hand-stretched noodles topped with a beef & mushroom mixture, matchstick carrots & cucumbers. Great flavor even for someone who picks mushrooms out of dishes, so not noticeable.
Final dish to hit the table was their beef yoghurt wrap. Bread resembled a pita and was filled with slices of beef, onions, tomatoes, lettuce and their yogurt sauce. Beef was tender and beautifully seasoned and the vegetables were fresh. Beef was really interesting! I kid you not, my first impression was Big Mac. That said, a significantly upgraded Big Mac!
Dessert was a pecan chocolate baklava. It was tasty and appeared to be house-made. One recommendation would be to let it sit for a while to temper. I suspect a fair amount of flavor was suppressed by serving it refrigerator cold.
Overall a really spectacular dinner. Can't wait to go back and try more of their menu.“

“This is my go to spot for rice, Saint Pauls, potstickers, and crab Rangoon. Service is always fast and food is ALWAYS delicious and fresh! I even took my friend who visited from Mississippi here and said it was the best Chinese food he’s had ever! When you call, the guy is pleasant. No rude run-ins. No throwing your change onto the counter. Consistency is everything. Location is perfect. Whenever you are in the mood for some good Chinamen, don’t hesitate!

“The food was OK. I kind of felt that I got ripped when I ordered a whole order of pork fried rice. It came to a little bitty small plastic container. I was very upset with that because a couple weeks prior I ordered a half order of fried rice and it pretty much came in the same plastic container. I like my rice to come in boxes like old-fashioned way. But the food was very good though I still come back“

“The restaurant was extremely quiet as I was the only one there. The food and service were wonderful, pleasant and fast! The atmosphere was a good vibe but, they had fans running which is fine but, on a warm day like today air would've been better. I will be back with my family!!“

“Sometimes you just have bad luck when you go out and sometimes it has nothing to do with the restaurant. This was one of those times. I say that to open as any further comments might be influenced by that more than I intend. The food was generally as good as expected, but there was a cilantro miss with my wife's food. To their great credit they remade it, but she still couldn't eat it, her guess was it was probably just still getting in there during the cooking with repeatedly used utensils, etc. My wife can hear a mouse sneeze a mile away and tell if I had cilantro 2 days ago when I come home, so most folks probably wouldn't have noticed. Again, to the restaurants credit, they simply took it off and we hadn't asked nor complained. The very attentive service staff just noticed and took care of it. It was a bit noisier than I prefer, but here especially I might be colored by the aggravation with the table behind us. The birthday boy who kept bouncing and banging into the seat was easier to overlook than the grandmother whose cackle was on repeat was harder to omit. It was one of those fake over done ones that was ear piercing after 45 minutes. These things happen at peak times. I hope you have better luck as the food really is enjoyable and the staff was impeccable, just watch out for that cilantro.“

“In a nutshell... Jenny the hoatess/server was a Rockstar. She had a party of approx 25 automotive salespeople show up an hour before closing. She was a 1 person dynamo. Never anything but a positive disposition on her end. Never an excuse or complaint from her... Just a smile.“

“My first stop when I come in town from Florida. The food is the best Chinese food in the country. Not exaggerating. The chicken broccoli with garlic sauce is my favorite. The hot and sour soup is also the best I have ever had. The shrimp dishes are also delicious. The food is always very fresh tasting and cooked perfectly -- crisp vegetables & tender meat. The owner is so nice. I highly recommend Hunan Empress if you want a great meal with large portions and very reasonable prices. Simply put -- THE BEST!“

“Just got back from Vegas late and looking for a snack. My wife is very healthy conscious and wanted vegetables. After checking out several restaurants that were already closed, we checked out Valley Wok’s menu. She ordered the vegetarian moo shu with tofu. I ordered the steamed dumplings and shrimp and pork hunan style. Everything was delicious and enough food left over for lunch. We will definitely put this on our regular take out list.“

“We've been going to Lucky China for some 15 years now (sheesh ya blink right...)
This place has always been our go-to for Chinese take out. The people are very friendly (though often busy/on the move) and they always nail our order (including changes to the standard menu). Over the summer we shifted from placing phone orders to their online ordering system which has worked out really well (allows you to leave notes if you need to customize a food item).
The food quality has always been great and even more so consistent even after all this time. We primarily do different variations of beef or chicken entrees, spring/egg rolls, crab rangoon, soups, chicken sticks, steamed dumplings, white/fried rices (pork/chicken), and the occasional lo mein or mei fun dishes.
Hope nothing but continued success for them, its one of those places that would be difficult if not impossible to find an alternative to.“

“First time going to this Chinese food restaurant. Someone told me it existed in st. Charles, so I thought I would give it a try. I ordered the pork fried rice and Saint Paul sandwich. So far the best fried rice and st. Paul I've tasted this side of the river. Normally you would have to go to north county to get rice as good as this.“

“Had the great pleasure of working next door to China Kitchen, It was my go to spot for lunch and I would alternate between the orange chicken and General Tzo chicken with crab Rangoon. They get the food out in a pretty reasonable time and it’s great for taking to go.“

“**UPDATE - someone must have read the below review because things have improved!!! THANK YOU SO MUCH! We love China Star!!!
I have been a faithful customer for years but the last 3 months or so the food has been TERRIBLE!!!!!
The owners seem to never be around anymore and the quality is suffering!!! Tonight I got my usual St Paul sandwich, they used bread and butter pickles rather than the usual hamburger pickles and it tastes disgusting. Last order my fried rice was burnt. The time before that my chicken was burnt.
I used to tip and every once in awhile the staff would give us a thank you in return like a bottle of soda or an extra crab rangoon. Needless to say they don't do that since the owners stopped working in house, and after the last three trips I'll never tip again if I even decide to go back.
Please look at my online order history! We usually order from your store every Sunday. I know how your food is supposed to taste, and something is definitely wrong!!!
By the way, I would have loved to speak to the owners any other way than a public Google review but there's no way to get a hold of them. I've even tried to message them on Facebook but no one monitors their page.
PS- please clean up that disgusting fish tank behind the counter. It's covered in mildew, grime and mold... not very appetizing.“

“China King is my absolute favorite place for Chinese food!!! They are always so kind and quick.. I have never had a single issue with their service... or their food.
I always get their chicken on-a-stick and an order of their crab rangoon... it NEVER disappoints!! Other places may also have chicken on-a-stick... but not like this. Always moist, juicy, and crispy... perfection on a stick!!
Their crab rangoon are some of the best St. Louis has to offer!! Hot, creamy, perfectly crispy...just .... divine. Partnered with their hot and thick house red sauce... not some watered-down sad excuse for sauce...hard to find much better especially for the price...
Great hours and plenty of space to dine in... absolutely worth it!!

“I have only gotten delivery. The time was fast and the food was the best Chinese food I have gotten in St. Louis to date. The chicken was very fresh and well prepared. I called ahead and asked if they use day old chicken and the reply was no. Fresh every time.
A question you should always ask before ordering every time.“

“Decent place to get some Chinese food for the Creve Coeur area. I usually stick with the chicken fried rice here, the other chicken menu items can get a bit gelatin. Nonetheless this place has decent portions sizes for the prices and service is generally quick. Best part I like is for this area, if you want to order online you can customize your dishes, for example I like extra chicken, egg and onion with my fried rice. They are the only ones around that can convenient offer that option when ordering on your phone. Love it“

“Good food, I got the Mei Fun chicken noodles. If you like heavily seasoned things, I don't recommend this dish. But I enjoyed it, it was a nice chicken-broth flavor. There's no description on the menu, so if I had to tell you what veggies are in it I would say celery, white onion, mushrooms, and some other veggie that I didn't recognize but was yummy. Definitely would've been better if there was more sauce or broth, but nonetheless good. Crab rangoons are sweet but not too sweet. Sweet and sour was good, came with the bright red sweet and sour sauce on the side. I would go back again ?“

“My favorite Chinese place in town. It's not fancy - there are only three tables at this little hole in the wall. But the food is tremendous. Good serving sizes, reasonable prices, and the consistency is locked in. Try this place, you will love it.“

“Moving my reviews over from Yelp. This was a favorite for a long time! Started going there when it was for the fact that everything on the menu could be had as a $5 lunch special. Big food too.
2017 Revision:
I've decided it's time to bump them up a notch. Why? A few reasons...
1. They are always hellaciously busy and that means the food is always fresh. Always!
2. Their food is consistently better than any other similar place I've tried in the STL area.
3. I really respect the amount of business they do. Yes, that's also my #1 reason but the fact is that if you go in for lunch and spend maybe 30-minutes in the place you'll probably see them push out 50+ meals in that time with an unknown number going out for delivery as well. That's just pretty damn impressive for a little Chinese place.
They are what they are...but I respect that a little more after trying other similar places. They really are at the top of their segment.
Original 2015:
Sometimes a three star review is an indication that a place is doing just fine but that their chosen niche just doesn't warrant a higher rating. That is exactly the case with this place. They are a high-volume, counter-service place pumping out massive quantities of Americanized Chinese food. Therein lies the rub...I cannot really stick more than three stars on such a place.
I had the General Tsao chicken. It was served hot (no shit...it was lunchtime and they were slammed) and near my upper limit for spiciness at lunch. Less than 10 minutes between ordering and receipt plus everything was obviously freshly cooked.
A good portion of crispy fried chunks of chicken in a thick sauce with exactly two pieces of broccoli tossed on top as an afterthought. Add a couple of run of the mill crab rangoons and a pile of fried rice in the styrofoam clamshell and it was a pretty good value at less than $6.
I will certainly be back but not because I will be looking for a gourmet experience. Nope, I'll be back when I want a pile of steaming hot Americanized Chinese food for way less than ten bucks...and sometimes that's just fine.“

“Better than many Chinese takeouts I’ve had, but I’m halfway convinced some of the “chicken” was actually seitan 😂 SO that said the chicken was really good and tender and juicy. So much so that i couldn’t believe all of it was really chicken lol“

“Tony's K Food is my favorite restaurant ever. I'm so happy I found them. They're literally a hole in a wall inside of a grocery store that is equally as amazing. “Old-school Chinese restaurants, some of the staff have limited English, but although the service is not friendly, it is efficient and the restaurant is clean. The menu is loaded with pictures so if you have difficulty deciphering what the food items are, you can take a peek. The appetizers are delicious, including the chicken feet, salt and pepper squid and the entrée sole salt and pepper deep-fried is good too. My only complaint is that if the prices on the menu or not would appear on your bill! My dinner ended up being over $70 with tip is I was charged more than the mini price. I paid the bill this time but if I do go back, I will call them out on it.“
