“While in St Joe for a week of work, our group dined at popular places which I have a reviewed in high regard. However, on our last night in town we were seeking a steak dinner and I chose Hoof and Horn for our group.
Nestled deep in the former packing yards of St Joseph that is now mainly traveled by warehouse workers, truckers, and butted up against the BNSF rail line, we found historical gem. I will admit this is an area that most will turn their nose up at first glance, but that is sometimes where you find the best places.
When you walk in you instantly see the history of an establishment that has been in existence since 1898! Old school tables and booths, historical pictures and paintings honoring the history of a packing industry that bears no resemblance to today. There are no frills, not needed. The centerpiece is a historic saloon mirror bar surrounded by the wooden craftsmanship by which it was built. Something straight out of a picture set in the Old West.
Now, the food. When I tell you that I was treated to the best steak I have had the pleasure of enjoying in a long time, it is with full and honest truth. Steaks are cut in-house and the quality shines through when your perfect(medium-rare) meal is delivered. Fresh made rolls for the table were baked so perfectly the still warm vessels melted away when eaten. The French onion soup, although not on my mind at first, was offered and I couldn't resist. I'm glad I accepted. The standard dinner salad was fresh and crisp, baked potato was fantastic and coleslaw was juicy with a hint of sweet.
All of us who entered this establishment left full, happy, and hoping to be back some day soon to enjoy it all over again.

“I love this place! We had an absolutely perfect experience. I needed 5 dozen donuts for my daughters birthday and I needed 2 dozen on one day, and 3 dozen on another day. Not only were they accommodating & so helpful...one of the dozen had to be eggless due to an allergy for one of my daughters classmates and they were awesome at making a substitute for those! The donuts were absolutely delicious, made fresh & probably the best donut Ive had in town. I can't say enough about what a great experience it was & we will definitely be returning!!”

“Tried the chicken fried chicken with mashed potatoes and Dressed roasted Brussels sprouts a couple months ago and, while the chicken and potatoes were delicious, the Brussels sprouts were barely cooked and my roll wasn’t even warm. Went back today, Feb 21, 2024 during the lunch hour and ordered same thing but I requested they cook the Brussels to tender. It was DELICIOUS!! Josh, the bartender, was our waiter and was fantastic. “We went to Country Cookie based on a recommendation of a customer at the nail place we were at. We are from Iowa, never heard of the place before today. The cookies were great. They were having an event that had face painting, tattoos, spin the wheel for a prize and pick a sucker for a prize, plus deals on cookies. We were burning time while the boys went to the Chiefs Training camp. The girls had fun and the staff was so kind and fun. One of them won a deco kit and she had a blast decorating when she got home. “Haven't tried everything on their menu but everything I've tried has been good. Staff are friendly and courteous. Place is clean, well maintained and is more spacious than I expected. Other than specials, drink prices aren't cheap but they aren't unreasonable, either. The beers I've tried so far have all been fresh and flavorful. Best Reuben sandwich I've had anywhere with thick, generous serving of corned beef and served on really good, marbled bread.”

“This place was a very pleasant surprise, i will start my saying i know absolutely nothing about PHO. That said , I do know what I like.
The spring rolls were pleasant and light, varry crisp and fresh. I really really enjoyed the peanut sauce included with the spring rolls. It was a very good compliment to the natural freshness at the spring roll.
The PHO was absolutely delicious. The aromas that come off of it with its blending of herbs and spices Were nothing short of amazing. I really enjoyed the addition of the Sprouts and basil on the side. It allows you to put them in yourself , keeping them nice and fresh and giving it a nice crispness adding texture.
The staff is extremely friendly, providing excellent service.
Overall, with delicious food, a comfortable setting and great service.I will definitely be back.”

“So, stopped by this little joint on a recommendation from a friend. And was not disappointed. An order of 24 wings for $28. Some might say that's too expensive. Ogre says "SHUT YOUR MOUTH, YA GET WHAT YA PAY FOR" and man did I. So they start with a dry rub, then smoked, then brushed on sauce of choice. I chose zombie and garlic pom. Came with a side of homemade chips (which didn't make it 4 blocks). Oh, and might I add, ya get more meat on these "wings" than ya get on some of the fast food legs. DEFINITELY OGRE APPROVED! And theu had some whiskey selection, but couldn't sample since I was still in the work buggy.”

“Great place for brisket and sausage. The seasoning rub was good. The rib was a little dryer than we like but they were good. The bbq beans were great as well. Fried okra was good. The corn was good too. The potato salad tasted like it came out of a store bought container instead of being homemade. The applesauce was real chunks of apples and soooo good. They also had different styles of bbq sauce that you could try as well as buying bottles to take home with you. The Chicago sauce was amazing. Tasted like raspberry fruit. The decorations were cool as well. Most definitely a place to eat if you are a Kansas City Chiefs fan”

“I stopped in yesterday, July 4th for the first time. I ordered a large supreme and a 2 liter bottle of soda for just under $22! That price cannot be beat. The pizza was just a bit unerdone, but no problem, I just popped it in the oven for a bit and it came out perfect. Even if I didn't like the pizza, I would give 5 stars for the customer service! The two young ladies that waited on me were exceptionally sweet and took great care of me! I will definitely be back to try more of the menu.”

They were well aware because they called the owner or whoever they called and let him know. They checked multiple boxes and everything is mush!! I didn't want the 2 boxes I paid for because they were melted as well!! They said she literally just made 2 boxes fresh and was hard well maybe at the time I got them they were not qiute melting HOWEVER I came straight home and guess what? THEY WERE MELTED 🤬! I called the store to let them know and she said unfortunately when I left the lot there is nothing they can do. REALLY YOU KNEW EVERYTHING WAS MELTING!! Anyways I will NOT go to the DQ on the Avenue this summer. That's poor service in MY OPINION! I will show you in the pictures the dilly bars and stars. I BELIEVE IT'S TIME FOR A NEW FREEZER 🤷‍♀️”

She was talking to someone negatively about her coworker that had just left so we were kinda iffy on the atmosphere. But we got our food and it was delicious! My dad was surprised by how good the wraps were and said he would definitely come back for them, and the PB crunch always is the best!! What really made our trip was the Second Lady we ordered from when grabbing my momma some food. She was sweet, personable, and very friendly. She brought the food out to us whereas the other lady had us come up to separate times to grab everything. “This would be some of the better Mexican food in the upper Kansas/Missouri area. Comfortable, clean little place with a Mexican restaurant feel. We were from CA and Mexican food is pretty abundant there. This place came closest to what we are used to. Chips are light and paired with a not bad salsa. We added the pico de gallo to the salsa, and that perfectly matched! Carne asada was a bit dry, but has just enough seasoning to qualify as Mexican. Guacamole was spot on. Chunky, fresh, seasoned. And horchata was real and had the right amounts.”

“It is getting harder and harder to find a restaurant that serves beef burgers and Fords has a good one. I don’t know of any other restaurants serving beef burgers on every day of the week! I like beef burgers on a hot dog style bun with either fries or onion rings. Ford’ has it. Great food reasonable priced. Highly recommended!”

“this place handled a weekend lunch rush, hordes of pickup orders, and a catering order from a university volleyball team all while obviously being short people amazingly well. special kudos to the teen boy delivering food in the dining room. he did a great job and maintained his cool despite the verbal abuse from an older woman sitting next to us.”

“I always look forward to going to Pizza Ranch, I went today, and my experience was less than favorable. my fork was sticky, there were hardly any potatoes, I was scrapping trying to get gravy. There was hardly any pizza out. Normally when I go in the girl up front, Sophie, goes out of her way to help me. she asks of there's anything I need. The only helpful employee today was the boy picking up my dishes. I hope my next experience is better.”

“The boss burrito is delicious! Love that you get fresh tater tots rounds with your meals. The burrito was nice sized and had great flavor. Enjoyed the taco sauces as well. I will come back. Only downfall is the drive through...how do you even get to it lol 😆”

Any sandwich you want they can make into a salad.. so I got the Italian salad.. with all the fixins. It was so good. The staff was nice and friendly and the place was very clean.”

“We hadn't been to a Long John Silver's in quite awhile and since we were in St. Joseph Friday and was looking for a place for lunch and thankfully are navigation system showed LJS on the Southside and so glad we stopped for lunch awesome food and great service the building like several of the LJS building's is showing age and needing updating but it was well worth the stop even with the construction going on in front of the store would stop again if in the area 👍👍👍”
