“I don’t understand why this place doesn’t have 5 stars across the board. The place is perfect! Presentation, flavor, service, all is perfect! We had a variety of different plates tonight. I have never had a disappointment with anything here. However, when asked what my favorite tastes were, I have to say the scallops, which was a special, or the shrimp scampi, (an hors d’oeuvre) were at a tie. Both perfectly cooked and the scampi with the sauce and the bread is incredible! We also had Mac n cheese, onion rings and fries as a side. Normally I don’t get these items, as I never would at another restaurant, but here, you know it’s going to be great with our next few meals! The halibut and the vodka past were also both perfect! I really don’t know how else I can describe it. We ended it with a Tavern Sundae as well as espresso. The sundae was again, something I would never order, (I’m not a dessert person) but it was served with chocolate, vanilla, strawberry ice cream, homemade whip cream, hot fudge and a variety of toppings. Sounds basic, but with multiple people, it was the perfect way to end meal! Drinks, cocktails are great and creative (or classic) and the wine list is a perfect pairing to any meal you have. Service is always a plus for me and every time I have been, they always deliver! Well done!!“

“We came across this place on accident, and we were pleasantly surprised. The gyro plate is phenomenal, as was the chicken shawarma! We were so pleased with these two meals, that we forgot we ordered the tabouleh. WOW! Refreshing and amazing! I can't wait to come back. The woman working there did it all, and she deserves a raise! We arrived shortly after 430pm and we're taken immediately to a seat and we're given some seafood bread.
Our food came pretty fast.
We had the boudin balls, fried catfish, fried gator, and 3lbs of snow crab legs.
Everything was delicious!! Can't wait to go back.“

But after being introduced to Hooks recently , this is the place for good fried tasty food! Check them out in the little plaza!“

“Two couples meeting to celebrate a retirement. Service and food were top notch. He walked us through the menu, suggesting meal pairings. Severs never hovered, but swept in when needed. Three of four steaks were about perfect. The 4th was quickly resolved with no issue. Lobster maccaroni and cheese and roasted Brussel sprouts were very good.“

“First time visit. Went for our anniversary. The attention to detail was excellent. We've spent a lot more at similar steakhouses and haven't had nearly the wonderful experience as we had here! Being seated by the manager was a nice touch. Prior to going, the only thing we knew was that it was attached to a Holiday Inn, which made us suspect and we thought we'd be severely disappointed. But since it got a good rating on Yelp we chanced it-- we're so glad we did! The cocktails were delicious and interesting. The wine list superb. We LOVED the salads that arrived "family style"- a Caesar and a mixed-greens salad choice. They came with homemade dressings that I wanted to drink from the bowls! Our steaks were cooked to our liking. I ordered the filet Oscar style and it was delicious! There were many choices of sides from which to choose. We ordered the whipped potatoes, asparagus, and the pepper cream sauce for my wife's filet and they were all yummy! Finally, we were given a free large slice of their "wedding cake" (vanilla cake with a phenomenal almond buttercream frosting) for dessert and devoured it! Don't hesitate going here. We think you'll enjoy it as much as we did!!“

My wife got pork chops, which was great. Twice baked potatoes were great. The salad was good. Toasted ravioli was just ok. Desert cheesecake was good. apple pie was good.
Wish they had booths, not a big fan of tables will for sure go back.

Kid-friendliness: I would say it's a place not to bring small kids that don't listen.“

“Best fish and chips to enjoy when they are here. Perfect location as it is close to home and I get my meals on my way home from work. Staff is so friendly. Wish if they took pre-orders the lines are usually so long and sometimes not easy to wait when the temperatures are not the perfect conditions. Can we get a little more fries? “It is my daughter’s 16th birthday today and we made a reservation at their sister restaurant Bristol’s awhile back. It’s her favorite place to go because of the fried cauliflower. We got a call today and they had a fire so they couldn’t open but graciously made us a reservation at j Gilbert’s. My son got sick so I had to stay home but they called me and said they made her the fried cauliflower that she loves at Bristol’s tonight at j Gilbert’s!! “This China King is under New Management and when I tell you I went at the beginning of November 2024, ordered Chicken Egg foo yu and Fried gizzards .... DELICIOUS!!! The gravy on the Chicken egg foo yu is so good and their Fried gizzards are the best in St Louis, they practically melt in your mouth and the onions help make the flavor. And the food was fresh, hot and soooo good. This husband and wife team know how to cook, they are respectful and kind, and have not only my respect but will have my business from now on. Thank you!!! “The food was fresh and delicious. The folks working clearly communicated times and I even heard them worn others of long waits before taking orders. Not much atmosphere to speak of. It’s your old school pickup Chinese restaurant. Pictures are of general tso chicken and orange chicken. It IS NOT heavily breaded like many other places. It felt light and healthIER than other Chinese places. I’d highly recommend!“

“I was seated promptly and ordered Beignets and an Old Fashioned. My server, Daniel was friendly and checked on my satisfaction. The atmosphere was lively, though I was seated near the cash register corner next to a group of somewhat loud colleagues who got noisier after a few drinks. Despite the noise, it was an pleasant experience overall.

I returned again a month later in August and sat at the bar. Daniel made my Hot Toddy and remembered me as the lady with thw laptop, how awesome!“
