“Surf was recommended as a place to try while we were in Portsmouth. It turned out to be a great choice. We arrived for an early dinner (5 pm) and were able to get a window table with a beautiful view of the harbor. My wife and I shared a house salad with sesame vinaigrette dressing, a bowl of clam chowder, and the roasted haddock with lobster mashed potatoes. Every dish exceeded our expectations. The roasted haddock really stood out- it was cooked perfectly with a butter/cornichon pan sauce and a surprising amount of lobster in the mashed potatoes. Our server did an excellent job. This restaurant is highly recommended. They do not take reservations.“

“oh wow... what a find! We were looking for a seafood restaurant when passing thru the area and the name caught our attention. We had an amazing dinner! We both chose the seafood fettuccine, which was heavenly - incredible pasta and sauce topped with succulent seafood. Desserts were lavender creme brulee and white chocolate cake...Holy cow! Dinner and service were both top-notch.. and we can't wait to return!“

“I have been eating there for years. I went the other night because I was craving scallops. I got my usual scallops and tried to substitute o-rings for fries. The girl told me it wasn't allowed. No substitutions. I was willing to pay for the upgrade. No go. I live in the area and there are a lot of other options which I'll be trying.“

“Stopped by on a trip up the coast... The Service was outstanding. Our waitress was very attentative, the Steamahs were perfect, especially with some extra lemon wedges. And the fried scallops were the best I've had. Huge, juicy, perfect breading which was thin, crispy, very little grease, along with a large portion. The Habanero Margarita was a perfect combination as well. I can't wait to go back!“

“Just a quick note from someone who never writes reviews. Sitting at The Beach Plum with my three kiddos and so impressed and grateful for the wonderful service we’ve received here. We had a tiny issue with one meal which was immediately acknowledged and fixed tenfold. Two members of the team checked on us several times after to make sure we were doing okay and then sent us home with an extra meal for later on the house. My kids learned a great lesson on wonderful and kind customer service and The Beach Plum will continue to be a favorite spot for us! Thank you!!“

“From the start I felt I was walking into a dream. Beautiful and unexpected decor. Stylish, Upscale, Modern. Not what I'm familiar with in most Asian restaurants. Enchanting and romantic.
As they say, 'you eat with your eyes first', and right off the bat, my eyes were telling me we were about to dive into something flavorful, delicious and satifying.
The Pho noodle bowl with shrimp was steaming and presented with a side of garnishes; basil, mint, jalapeno, bean sprouts, lime wedges and a little dish of the best house made hot sriracha. Wow! Packed a flavor-filled punch. We used every bit of it. (Will take tums later).
The grilled lemongrass chicken thighs were juicy and so, so good. Excellent alongside a perfect bowl of garlic ftied rice.
The servers were so friendly and helpful when we asked questions about origins of some of the dishes.
If I lived anywhere near this place it would be a frequent dining choice.
Or even to come for cocktails. The bar is stunning. We had a 3 hour drive to home ahead of us so we couldn't induge. But, if they put as much care into making a good drink as they do into everything else, I'm certain it's worth a visit to just relax and enjoy a drink while sitting at the gorgeous bar.
I hope we travel this way again soon. Will be a top choice on my list of dining places to enjoy.“

“Lazy Jack's is a charming and cozy restaurant that I would definitely return to. It's important to set your expectations accordingly, as they provide only paper plates, plastic cups, and plastic silverware. If you’re okay with that, I highly recommend this spot to anyone visiting Portsmouth. The ambiance is very pleasant, situated on the water with a lovely view of boats passing by. It's a great place to relax and enjoy the scenic waterfront.“

“I visited today after reading some great reviews about their food, and I must say, the pork skewers were fantastic! They had a perfect charred flavor, combined with a delightful sweet and spicy taste. However, despite the hype, the beef rendang was dry, tasteless, and lacked seasoning. It was quite disappointing. If you're planning to visit, I highly recommend ordering the skewers—they're definitely worth it!“

“First visit to this restaurant during previous visits the restaurant was always full (from a parking lot view).This time. Mid week in late October we decided to give it a try.
Staff are friendly and the atmosphere is definitely cozy and warm. The service was good and the food did not disappoint. They pride themselves in using local products and you can taste the difference.“

“So I've been ordering take out from forgartys for years. Now, back then the food was very bland and the to go orders were constantly getting messed up. I'm talking every single time I picked up there was something missing or completely wrong. I've finally edited my review to match with current times and I must say after 6 years from my last review things have drastically changed. As new cooks and new staff have filtered through things have taken a turn for the better. The food is actually pretty tasteful and "knock on wood" but the staff have been better at double checking what should be in the take-out bags.“

“Traveled out to Portsmouth from Wisconsin. Sick of seafood, best burger I have ever had on the east coast. Lots of tv’s to watch the games. Friendly people. Highly recommend you give it a try. Will try their lobster roll though before leaving. Had some delicious apple crisp for desert.“

“I stumbled upon the roost a few year ago and have had many different experiences, some good, some not so great but Last week I went in during lunch with my wife and our friends. Our waitress was more than amazing! She was very cheerful, fun, knowledgeable and very observant! I am a veteran but also someone who NEVER asks if a restaurant has a veterans discount. Our server noticed my military pin on my jacket and asked if I had served our country, the answer was yes in which she instantly thanked me for my service and informed me that they offer a veterans discount for “those who serve our country”. I was very impressed because no one has ever been so observant as she was as well as having some really great recommendations on food and drinks and was able to carry an awesome conversation with our table! Although she was by herself and somewhat busy (making drinks, cleaning, and delivering food) her service continued to be impeccable and she didn’t even look flustered at all! She also had a very unique name that my wife really fell in love with! Although when she first brought us our check she had forgotten to put the discount on our bill (we did not tell her she had forgotten it) but as soon as she came back over to grab our payment, she realized her mistake and immediately applied the discount for us. My wife, our friends, and I have been to many restaurants and all agreed that this was the best experience we have ever had! We will be back again to visit our new favorite server!“
