“I'm not sure when I last visited a place that checked all the boxes for a 5-star rating, but believe me, this one did. If you're short on time, just trust me—you'll thank me later.

We went there for the first time tonight after shopping at Wegman's. Upon arrival, we were greeted warmly and waited less than 2 minutes for a table.

Once seated, our server, Kevin, came over almost immediately. He was friendly, genuine, and had a lovely personality, which made us feel comfortable enough to joke around with him. We ordered our drinks, and they arrived just as quickly. Throughout the evening, Kevin was attentive and professional. At one point, one of the managers, Allen, came by to check on us—a gesture I haven't experienced before and one that really sets the bar high for other establishments. Allen was charming and had a positive aura that made the atmosphere even nicer.

Now, let's talk about the food—it was fantastic! I ordered a Pumpkin Spice Martini, and my husband chose the Blood Orange Manhattan; both were divine. We started with the nachos topped with chicken, and they were incredibly tasty—perfectly stacked with no soggy chips and just the right portion size. We devoured them!

For my main course, I had an arugula salad with blackened chicken, which was not only delicious but also a perfect portion. They offer various styles of chicken—grilled, breaded, blackened, etc. My husband ordered a grilled chicken sandwich with a Caesar salad on the side. Again, it was delicious and appropriately sized; the side Caesar wasn't a small serving but a proper side dish. Our toddler wanted pasta with butter, and they kindly accommodated her request. We just needed to ask for more butter since it was a bit dry, but the pasta was cooked perfectly and not steaming hot, so she could eat it right away.

The prices were very reasonable, and the atmosphere was fun—not too dark, with plenty of televisions around. The restrooms were clean and well-maintained, which is always appreciated, and I loved that there was a full-length mirror. They even have a family restroom complete with a changing station. My husband didn't check the men's bathroom, so I can't speak to whether it has a changing station, but no biggie since they have the family washroom. I also like that we are able to see everything from wherever we were seated.

Overall, I give this place five stars without hesitation. Be sure to ask for Kevin as your server—he's fantastic—and don't forget to say hi to Allen!“

Then we had the Brisket Sandwich and my husband had the Buffalo Wings. The Brisket Sandwich was amazing...so incredibly tender, lots of flavor, completely falls apart with each bite. My husband was so happy with his wings. He was so happy that they were actually crispy and full of flavor. The staff is amazing. So incredibly friendly and provide amazing service. “I am a regular at Spin Philadelphia. I usually go and have a very good time. I enjoy the food, drinks, and the atmosphere. I recently had a situation where someone asked security to deal with me. I was upset and started acting up because I was being wrongfully accused. Even though my night was going bad, I felt better because of the way I was treated by some staff. The security guy with the bandana and the front desk ping pong player were very nice to me. They heard me out, showed me respect, and were very understanding of the situation. They assured me that I was welcomed back anytime. I really appreciated that. Thank you.“

It’s an A+ type of place that you can just walk into and get great food and drinks without a reservation, something that’s increasingly impossible in town. Tempura was a table favorite. “My husband took me out to Philly for an early Mother’s Day gift. He said we were going to a “speakeasy” type bar in Chinatown but I didn’t believe him. When we got to an iron screen door, he was like this is it and I was like you got to be kidding me. The owner came out, asked my husband if he knew it was a cash bar took our ids then went inside. The owner brought back our ids then took us inside to a foyer where he told us the rules of the bar. Cash only, absolutely, no photography and no phones. If you need to take a phone call, you go back to foyer area or outside to not disturb people. We agreed to rules and went inside. The bar was dimly lit with candles on each table. The decor was amazing with pictures and antiques on the wall. We were sat at a table and given a cocktail menu. The cocktails were unique and separated by whiskey, gin, vodka and rum. If you need a light since it is so dim in the bar, they will bring you a light because they brought one to my husband. There were no beers on the menu so if that is what you’re looking for then this isn’t the place for you. We ordered our cocktails and they were amazing. Since there is no phone usage, you have more of an intimate experience with the person you are with because you aren’t distracted by your phone. We sat and talked while drinking our drinks. The owner came over and asked us about our drinks and how we were doing. We then ordered another round of drinks and continued talking. We enjoyed our time at Hop Sing Laundromat. Service was great, bartenders were great, owner was great, and the ambiance was amazing. This is a great date night spot for anyone who wants to enjoy a intimate setting with a cocktail or two. “My husband and I were looking for something to get into on a Saturday night so we learned of Essie's by calling another entertainment restaurant in town that was closed for the night. We got to Essie's and was amazed at how upscale, clean, and close to home it was for us. The food was delicious as can be and the music was wonderful. Since we just walked in we were seated in the bar area at a table by the window. The whole vibe was on point for us. We were given a tour of the upstairs lounge which was empty that night bec no one had booked it for anything. Still it was beautiful as well as classy for giving a small to medium gathering of friends for a party or get together. The bathrooms were fashionably modern, beautiful, clean, and smelled great! We peeked into the stage area dining room to get a look since we weren't able to sit in there since all the tables were booked. It was very nice and classy. I can't wait to go back. Next time I'll be booking reservations for a dinner when they have live entertainment so we can sit in the stage area dining room and enjoy some live entertainment and another delicious meal. I'm so glad we found this spot. Now it will be our go to restaurant when we want to get out and hear some great soulful music. Way to go Essie!!! :)“

i’ve been here numerous times with different parties and i’ve always had a great experience. it’s also one of the few restaurants I can consistently get in with a last-minute reservation or walk-in while still feeling the place is lively and bumping every time I’m there. it’s a delicate balance and they nail it consistently. chef Michael’s food is excellent, bev director Michael has put together an awesome program and chef Ervis is such a handsome and gentle man who also happens to make great pastas. what a combo.
