The fish is always fresh, tender, and cooked perfectly, and the sauce is packed with flavor with just the right amount of heat. Every bite is satisfying, and you can tell that care goes into preparing the food.

Even as takeout, the food travels well and arrives fresh and flavorful. The portions are generous, and everything I've tried has been well-seasoned and enjoyable. The staff is always friendly and helpful, and my orders have been accurate and ready on time.“

“Can I please give it 6 stars? I recently went there with a group of five family members while visiting New Jersey and we had a truly extraordinary night! As an investor in restaurants I'm very critical when visiting any restaurant and not often impressed even with well known critically acclaimed restaurants. It's very rare when a place has truly incredible food with every appetizer and entree as well as first class VIP vibes for service. You could literally taste the passion and care put into every plate with beautifully prepared flavorful abundant meals. In fact, it was the first time in almost a decade I brought home leftovers as the meal was delicious and easily sufficient for two people. Our entire table raved about their meals and the attentive but not obtrusive service was always there to refill our wine and assist without any of us having to look up for service. The food alone would have made for a great night but what truly made it memorable besides the great waitstaff was the manager, Eli. When was the last time a manager, GM or owner greated you at your table to share a polite, interesting and passionate conversation about the food and why they love sharing this experience with their valued customers? He made our entire table feel like VIPs and made perfect recommendations for wine and dessert. It felt more like we were in someone's home as we were there for close to 3-1/2 hours talking, eating, drinking and laughing. The ambiance is warm and unpretentious and the memories of a great experience will certainly bring us back again.“

“My date and I came here last night and everything was excellent! The wait staff was also very attentive and answered all of our questions and was able to offer recommendations. We got a fish and egg appetizer which was absolutely amazing, the sour and spicy black cod soup, and the osmanthus lotus root for dessert. You can order from iPads that have pictures of everything on the menu and it sends everything straight to the kitchen. It may be helpful if you speak Mandarin but it is not necessary.“

The amenities and thoughtfulness they put into this experience puts this place in a league of its own. We did the 4lbs (we are a family of 6) with the Cajun sauce. I recommend getting the garlic noodles, corn, potatoes and sausage. We also go some bread at the end and used it to dip in the sauce. 10/10. Get their versions of caprisuns. The soup was incredibly tasty, and the 'mini' size with extra fish was more than enough to feed three people—it’s a great value. I was also pleasantly surprised by the fried milk; I had never tried it before, but the lady was kind enough to give us a sample, and I ended up absolutely loving it. Mild was spicy, keep that in mind. Highly recommended!“

Customer service was great. It’s been a while since we visited and they have added several different soup base choices. We went for the basic chicken broth with fish maw, but will definitely try other ones next time.
All the hot pot restaurants in the area are all-you-can-eat, but this one isn’t. However, the quality of the soup stock is way better and the dining environment is quieter.“

“My wife and I have been patrons and huge fans of Chez Catherine for nearly 30 years. Last Friday, we happily celebrated our 39th anniversary there with another very fine lunch. It's always a pleasure to be greeted like old friends by owner Stephane Bocket and seated at what we think is the best table in the tastefully decorated, elegant restaurant. We both chose the prix fixe menu. For starters, my wife had the always terrific moules and I a lovely mixed salad. We both chose beef bourguignons for our main course and asked Stephane to suggest wine from the by-the-glass list. His selections of a chablis for my wife and pinot noir for me worked perfectly with the outstanding bourguignons. We finished by sharing a delicious Baba au Rhum, prepared by Stephane at tableside. Dining at Chez Catherine is always a special event to us. Everything about it is first class. If you are unfamiliar with Chez Catherine, it has been one of New Jersey's Top 5 restaurants for nearly 40 years. “1st and last time coming here. With the price of the buffet you would think they will have more food selections. The food was nasty, cold and dry. The hibachi was closed and the steak they did make and put out was cold, tough and been sitting out for a while. Crabs were cold and small they were stingy with putting everything out in small portions. Didn't have any snow crabs like they advertise. The bubble tea was free so my children didn't know upon leaving we had to pay for it. The rude receptionist ran and chased us down out the door and snatched them out my kids hands. If she wasn't so rude i would of went back to pay for them. I spent a total of $267 including $40 tip for nasty buffet and service. False advertising on social media made me come here. Never again“
