“Last night a friend and I went there last night (10/24/24. We actually went for karaoke, which was supposed to start at 8pm. It started at 9:30. However, we decided to stay for dinner. Although there were only a few customers, it took over an hour to get our food. I also had an issue with the servers hair hanging out, while they constantly played with their hair. Hair should have either been covered or tied back.
Now for the positives: We liked the cozy, pristine atmosphere. The fried snapper and jolof rice was absolutely delicious. The fried plantains should have been ripe and sweet (like Cuban Petes). We didn't like the pepper sauce, which was extremely hot, and lacking flavor. The next time I will bring my tobacco. Yes, I said next time because it was my first visit, and I'll definitely be back for that DELICIOUS RED SNAPPER. I don't remember the name of the young lady. I think that she was the hostess. She was awesome. When she saw me sputtering from tasting that hotsauce she immediately brought me water. Her assistance in helping us select our menu was awesome. Thank you.“

“When conducting business, customer service and integrity are crucial to me. Having dealt with many Nigerian businesses, I’ve found that integrity and customer service is often lacking; however, Modupe is a remarkable exception. Her customer service is A+.
I recently ordered from her restaurant through Grubhub twice, but for some reason, the order was canceled both times. Instead of letting it go, she took the initiative to ask for my address and delivered the food to my house herself—unbelievable! As a business owner, I know that is truly going the extra mile. I just want to say thank you so much for your incredible service!“

“A friend recommended and i decided to try it out. Best tasting Naija food I’ve had in the whole of NYC and NJ area. I ordered half pan of Efo riro, ayamase and goat stew. It was so delicious and the meal was very well packaged. I shall be back again and highly recommend“

“I got the chicken jollof. The people are very friendly and nice. Rice was just okay but the chicken was definitely very good. I would definitely want to come back but I most certainly will not. I paid $27 literally for some chicken, rice, and cabbage. Call it a portion and a half but I did eat the entire thing. Really though, I can go almost anywhere in this city and get the same, if not better, for $12-15. I’ll be honest, I am not even sure how they remain in business charging those prices to people. Well, that’s my two cents minus 2,700. Up to you if you want to give it a go.“
“My order was quite enjoyable. I had some large fish that was topped with rice that had been seasoned and sauteed onions and peppers. Since I had never really had African food before, I ordered something that didn't really fit with my order, so I really appreciate that they phoned me. The ginger beverage was flavorful, zesty, and refreshing.“
“One stop shoping store for all African foods.“

“I'm funny about fish I only eat salmon or red snapper..... But one day I tried their baked tilapia it was the best tasting fish I ever had in my entire life. It was moist on the inside and crunchy on the outside let's not forget about the seasoning which was perfection. This place is definitely a hidden gem 🩵🩵👍🏾👍🏾💯💯“

“9jabuka is one of the most authentic Nigerian restaurants in Newark.
I ordered Amala with Gbegiri and Ewedu, Titus fish, yam & plantain, and honey beans — and everything tasted exceptionally fresh. The spice level was perfectly balanced, and the Titus fish brought back memories of Lagos. Properly seasoned, well cooked, and deeply flavorful.
Portions are generous. Yes, prices are slightly on the higher side, but the serving size and quality absolutely justify it.
The Zobo was vibrant and refreshing. Service was warm and attentive — Florence was a gracious host, and the front staff were helpful even during a moderate wait.
The atmosphere feels like a true 9ja buka spot — good music, clean interior, authentic vibe. Parking is limited in front, and the exterior can get a bit cluttered, but the food is the clear focus here.
If you’re looking for real Nigerian cuisine in Newark, this is a spot worth visiting. I will definitely return.“
