“As a Naija love love my Ghanaian cooking but there is one problem - garden city will test your patience with waiting time. Called union shop 10 times no pick up. Yelp said they open at 10am. I gave dem 2hrs 15min. Drove to the Union restaurant at 12:15. The door was lock. God help us. Call!!!!! For another 5 times no answer. Had to take my money somewhere else.“
“The suya is really good, the meat pie is to die for. The ewa aganyin is hit or miss. I’ve had it on days when I thought it’s all I’ll be eating and at times it feels like beans and palm oil. Jollof rice is exactly how you’ll expect it. Price recently increased. Overall, this is my go to African restaurant and probably the best on this side of New York Harbor.“
“I’ve only visited Abuja twice for take out, specifically jollof rice and goat. Let me tell you, I love goat meat and “Abuja” gets it. The food has a perfect balance of African spices and texture. I find the atmosphere perfect for watching sports and/or a casual drinking, so im looking forward to making time to actually go back and enjoy the full dining experience. I took the liberty of taking some pics on my last visit. Just me being me. ?“
“The best decision I made was to order the half chicken instead of the quarter. Cooked fresh to order, bursting with flavor and a healthy meal what more could you want. Know before you go - the restaurant doesn’t look like much and because the food is cooked to order call ahead or be prepared to wait 20 minutes.Absolutely recommend for something different, delicious and affordable. Will be back soon!“
“Wonderful experience. We had no idea what to order, so Modupe (the owner) surprised us. I only wish I could have eaten more! My daughter who can be picky was so happy with her shrimp and fries that she drew Modupe a picture. Highly recommend!!“
“I moved to Union, NJ from NYC (Harlem to be exact) and where I’m from there’s a variety of African food that’s so delicious so I was praying that my food would be the same. Thank you so much to the Chef, my Egusi with Fish and pounded Yam was so delicious! I will definitely be ordering from you guys again. Thank You, Thank You and Thank You???“
“My second time to this resturant and I will go again. Very good all the way around. Had a goat appetizer that was excellent. I had the vegetarian lentils and they were supper. Had the lamb chops for our main dish. Everything was cooked to perfection, but the lamb chops were definitely way too salty for us. I would recommend this restaurant it’s really good and when we go back again, we Will ask for way less salt on the lamb chops. Enjoy.Vegetarian options: I had the lentels. Very good.“
“If you are a fan of Nandos you will like this place! Dont get me wrong, it's not as good but if you want to save yourself the drive to DC. This is a great option. The fries were out of this world! Ask them to put the seasoned salt on them. The chicken had great flavor but i wish it wasn't just a sauce they put on top vs marinating it with it. The other thing that i noticed is you have to buy majority of the menu items separately, which i didn't like too much.“
“If you're looking for a unique dining experience that celebrates the rich tapestry of African cuisine, I highly recommend AMAT. Whether you're a seasoned explorer of African flavors or new to this culinary journey, you'll be treated to an unforgettable feast that will leave you longing to return. The owner is amazing and welcoming. Her food is truly amazing is ? all day everyday! Truly memorable!“
“I’m from NY and recently moved to NJ. Where I live in NJ there’s not much African stores so I normally just go to NY when I need something. Today I was in the union area to pick up something from Lowe’s and decided to looked up African stores near me and came across this store. The store is neat, clean, and very organized. There’s a broad selection and was able to find what I was looking for. Also they provided excellent customer service.“
