Thanks to the entire Canteen family - and I say FAMILY purposefully as you feel the family atmosphere as soon as you arrive - for hosting our team for dinner last week. We booked out the whole restaurant and they did just what we hoped for: Maritime hospitality, wonderful, genuine service and knock-your-socks off food. The team from across Canada went bananas over the Crobster sandwich. The special welcome from the owners was a lovely touch. The guests raved all the way back across the harbour on the ferry about the wonderful meal from start to finish. “The food in Edna is simply wonderful. Tartar as a starter was good, and the two fish dishes we had were perfect: halibut cheek and char with a Sauce Vierge both perfectly balanced. Service was excellent as well. Only downside was how loud it was.“

“The other people on here are right about the Tonkotsu Ramen. This probably exceeds most ramen-only shops. I don't usually drink the soup but I find myself almost polishing it off. It's light but filled with umami flavor and the grilled pork is amazing too. They didn't take any shortcuts with the onsen egg too, it has the shoyu flavor it's supposed to and just slightly underdone. The atmosphere is chill and homely and service is quick. You can leave in 15-20 minutes or stay for however long. Definitely coming back and trying other stuff on the menu!“

“My family and I ate here a few weeks ago when we were visiting Halifax. My spouse has celiac and so eating out is a bit dicey. After reading the menu and reviews, we wanted to give the Wooden Monkey a try. It was an absolutely wonderful experience. The atmosphere was lovely, comfortable and unique. The service was friendly and professional. The food was delicious and top quality. The intention and ethics of the restaurant are inspiring. Our server, Bridgid, was patient and enthusiastic, making my young kids feel welcome. My spouse enjoyed his meal and felt good afterwards. This is our new favorite restaurant (even though we live 1,000 miles away!).“

“Cha Baa Thai is seriously one of the best restaurants around and totally nails the food service game. I spend an hour deciding what to order because everything is so excellent. The restaurant vibes are super lovely and authentic, giving off that awesome Thai hospitality feel. And the staff? They're all super friendly and well-trained. You can expect the same great experience at all their branches in Halifax. I've tried both dining in and getting takeout from all of their spots, and let me tell you, my go-to meals are the Pad Thai, mango chicken, and Masaman Curry Beef.“

Unfortunately, during the music break, I became ill very suddenly (non alcohol related), and got sick as I tried to reach the washroom. I was so embarassed and upset, but a lovely customer and the owner were incredible. Today my husband is celebrating one year cancer free, and she treated us like family providing exquisite and delicious meals, she also sent us home with a some cherry cheese cake on the house. And to Anton ( hope I spelt his name correctly as well) for coming over to say hello and remember us from our last visit. To say that we are beyond happy would be an understatement.
