“We had the VFW in Astoria booked for a celebration of life for my mom and brother. We waited and waited and no one showed up to let us in. A crowd began to gather and still no word from the VFW. My wife and sister searched the area and stumbled up The Local. They explained our situation and the bartender was more than accommodating. We were able to use the outside area which was quite spacious and bring our own food!!! All they asked was that we bought some drinks(which were amazing!!!) I will definitely visit the Local whenever I'm in Astoria!!!“
“Came here for happy hr drinks and a hookah on a Friday evening around 5:30 (because my favorite place across the street only has happy hr Monday-Thursday). I ordered the coconut mojito which was great! I asked to make it not too sweet and it came out perfectly. Usually happy hours don’t include or offer drinks with flavors- I’m glad that wasn’t the case here. The service was great, the waiter reminded me to get another drink exactly when happy hr was going to end. The hookah was pretty good, not too badly priced 35 but cash only (they have an ATM inside but it charges a ~4 dollar fee). Gratuity is included on the checks which I didn’t mind because the service and drinks were great (still came out to less than 20 for both happy hr drinks with everything included). They made my last drink in a big plastic cup which was nice, just in case I wanted to leave. I’d return on Fridays during happy hr. Atmosphere is okay, a little dark. I wanted to try the food but I just ate prior to arriving.“
“The staffing here is what's giving this review the extra star. The food was pretty good, and the drinks were really good. There are two locations, the one in Forest Hills does not serve alcohol so if you're looking for alcohol go to the one in Astoria. The prices are pretty pricey so be prepared to spend at least $40.“
“the place thats near us is a bar and grill, and its inside of a really old ass cottage thats sunken into the ground. Like its literally sunk into the ground by a good five or six feet or so, the whole building. So you gotta go into the stairwell they built under the road to get in there. I think it's not actually Jimmy's corner, but people call it Jimmy's corner. Mhmmm, Mhmmm, it's half eaten.“
“My nonprofit organization had a sports trivia night in their private room on their second floor. It was perfect. Equipment for the DJ already there. A projector with a screen to display the scoreboard. Service was excellent. Food was great. Atmosphere was incredible. Drinks were fantastic. Highly recommend holding events in their private room. I will have more events there.“
“Early March my and wife and I held a baby shower there. They were extremely accommodating with us and our guest. They also were very friendly and it worked out very well. We had families and most of the ladies at the tables and we had filled the bar with our drinkers and younger crowd.Music was good/ food was good / service was great! Anne was such a great manager worked hand in hand with our coordinator to make that day such a great experience.Overall 10/10 would highly recommend your next event there.“
“Grateful, with my friends for giving me the opportunity to meet and share with them in such a beautiful place, on the first floor enjoy the dance atmosphere with delicious food and drinks ideal for birthday celebrations and on the second floor enjoy with family in the same way celebrate birthdays, anniversaries, marriage proposals, etc.“
“Immediately I knew this place was special. The ties to NYC and 9/11 run deep. I had a tuna melt which was open faced, and my husband had the Reuben. No pics because we ate everything before considering pictures. You will not be disappointed here. The service was great and the ambiance is special. If I'm ever in NYC again, I'll be back.“
“Loved this place. Great beer (though if you’re British they aren’t shorting you on the pints a US pint is 100ml less than a UK one). Fantastic food. I had the Salmon with Cesear Salad. Nachos were amazing too. My wife’s burger was equally good. I’ve never had one so big.Wish I’d bought the souvenir T-Shirt they were the best quality I saw in NYC.Dietary restrictions: I bought a fish dish which was very good and we had Nachos.“
“I love this place. I went for brunch with a couple friends and got the bottomless Mimosa option. Drinks were flowing, food was delicious, and the service was phenomenal. I still recommend the tres leches french toast. Don't forget to mix your mimosa flavors like cranberry and pineapple. I recommend for a weekend brunch.“
