“Finally tried multiple items and feeling ready to review. For sure a bakery worth to visit in the area. Many unique pastries and bread. Some spaces to improve.
Croissants: overall good, flaky and crispy, but inside were slightly dry. I got a brick-shaped one with chopped pistachio and the Kouign-Amann.
Deli rye was gorgeous too. Really soft with crunchy edge. Based on my long-rye-eating experience.. I think it was less impressive and slightly dry.“

“I love their almond croissants and walnut levain breads that I get at the NYC Greenmarket - I am sorry they will no longer be there after January 22nd, but look forward to visiting their restaurant in Brooklyn soon !“

“Such a wonderful bakery with unique flavors. We ordered a Victorian Sponge Cake with Raspberry filling and the whipped cream topping. The cake was gorgeous, tasted amazing and was incredibly light- not overly sweet or heavy. Clio was so helpful in answering any questions I had before ordering and the prices are on par with other local bakeries, if not a bit cheaper.
They also have a storefront that is great to stop by as well. Highly recommend!“

“Some might be hesitant to enter a place with decor reflecting the current war. Personally for me, it makes it more culturally significant and interesting. Now throw away the politics: it’s some of the best falafel in NYC, and for me at least, falafel is a serious food item to be discussed and debated. The shawarma and hummus is also totally legit. They go out of their way to make you feel welcome which is great. For folks from places where this fare is less available, I think it’s a worthy inclusion in any Bay Ridge food tour.“

“I think it's crazy how this place literally made every other supermarket go out of business with its consistently good food and fresh produce/ bakery / amazing gyros I mean could this place literally get any better. The line could be down the block and you would still check out in legit 3 minutes max lol 😆 these guys and babushkas know how to run a business 🤣“

“Really good! There was a line but it moves fast. The staff were very kind and helpful. I came around 1:30pm on a weekday and they still had some sandwiches. I got the Burrata, prosciutto and basil sandwich with a peach iced tea, both were delicious!“

“Compared to a decade ago, most of my favorite bagel spots in the city have gone way downhill (I recently got a Bagel Pub bagel that was too wet to eat, as if was thawed from frozen). But I still find Bagel Hole's bagels to be absolutely incredible. I personally love the smaller size, and I LOVE that they are a little bit chewy. And I love that their storefront looks exactly the same as it did when I first started going there!“

“That coffee slushee was a great treat on a hot day and for a hangover.
I got the middle eastern bagel but tried my friends Sephardic wrap - wow that wrap was everything I’ll go back for that. Middle eastern bagel is cheeses and saucey but has no meat so it didn’t hit like I was expecting“

“This is a really great and tasty treat bakery. They have lots of daily prepared fresh pastries on display. Their coffee taste awesome as well. I got also a walnut cookie very nice taste. They are only take out....will definitely be back and try something else when im in the area. On another note their front service workers are not very friendly, but I went and gave the 5 stars on account of their products.“

“Idk what happen to my review I left but food was really good. Service can be worked on but hey it’s expected honestly lol I drove 8 hours to New York for and stayed awake all day, got here around dinner to order food for the first time and the one lady was mad bc I was confused with veggie doubles vs regular doubles. Otherwise I would definitely come back and suggest to others. Spicy eggplant roti & doubles are soo tasty.“

“The food is incredible and service is top-notch! The staff is all friendly and patient—they operate like a family having a good time while also managing everything efficiently and smoothly as a team. I specifically have to give Miss Audrey her flowers. She was so very attentive and kind to my uncle, who needed assistance with ordering. The chicken was tender and flavorful, and the sides (crispy potatoes, Brussels sprouts, and green bean tomato salad) tasted better than some of the more upscale spots in NYC. Our jaws dropped when we tried the crullers, and we ended up coming back the next morning for breakfast. The coffee is fantastic too, and the vibe of the establishment is both cozy and clean. The line often goes out the door (although it does move quickly). The crullers are a must-try!“

“Favorite + closest bakery in the neighborhood for the Holy Trinity of baked goods - plain + pain au chocolate croissants, and a baguette. Also have had their roasted vegetable sandwich and apple tart, which was excellent.
Service is super fast and friendly. Don't be deterred by a line - it goes quickly.
I've actually gotten a lot of what I wanted despite coming in late (12, 1 PM). Goes without saying - get there early if you want to have the full selection to choose from.
Although, even if what you want is out of stock, it's nice to try something different since it's all top notch.“

“The pastries, both savory and sweet, are absolutely delicious. Particularly noticed how the baklava manages to be coated in honey without making the sweetness overpowering. On top of that, the person behind the counter was so kind and provided a recommendation as it was our first time in. Overall an amazing neighborhood spot that still fully welcomes newcomers, and some of the best pastries you’ll find anywhere. Not to mention truly shockingly affordable (we paid $11 for two savory and two sweet treats). Highly recommend to all.“

“I don't know which type it is exactly, but the loaf of bread that I got on Sunday was amazing. Lovely caramelized flavor in the crust, just right chewy crispy, stayed fresh for days. Best bread of the year so far. Half off in the late afternoon.“

“TLDR: Most items are not worth the wait and just hyped. Judged the food by the amount of time I'd wait. Details below.
The wait:
Came on a Saturday at 11am and the line was at the corner. Waited 45 minutes from that corner, so if it wraps around the corner, expect to wait 1hr+.
The food:
Blueberry & Lime Croissant was good and worth a 5 minute wait. Flakey, buttery, and fresh blueberries.
Cardamom Bun was nothing special, not worth the wait.
Tuna sandwich was nothing special, not worth the wait. Needs hot sauce. Bread was extremely chewy.
Turkey sandwich was nothing special, not worth the wait. Too much sauce made it messy and overpowered all the other ingredients.
Tomato feta sandwich was the best thing we had. Worth a 20 minute wait. Tomatoes and cheese were fresh and bread was the perfect chew.
Tomato garlic focaccia was good. Worth a 10 minute wait.
Garlic knot was good but needs some marinara sauce. Worth a 5 minute wait.
Overall, I wouldn't come back unless if it's on a weekday.“

“Great baked goods, mid lattes, short lines.
Simple Loaf is everything a cozy neighborhood bakery should be. Lovely staff, chill patio and indoor space for working during the day. Good, fuss free food without the massive lines plaguing every overhyped spot in Brooklyn.
The breads and pastries are definitely the stars of the show. Skip the beverages and you’ll be fine.“

“COME FOR THE EGG TARTS! I’ve grown up eating all kinds of egg tarts and these are by far one of the top contenders for best egg tarts. They have a nice light crust but with a dense thick soft custard-like egg filling. For whatever reason they taste a bit bland coming directly out of the oven as you burn your mouth trying to eat it fresh, but once it cools down a little you can taste all the flavours so much better. So be patient and let it cool.
I came in the winter time (Feb) around 1pm and they just had a large batch coming out of the oven. I tried coming here in the summer prior and was told there was a 45 min wait just for egg tarts. It gets very busy here and people buy the egg tarts in BOXES! Dude in-front of me ordered 4 boxes as soon as they came out. I’m just glad they make huge batches at a time.“

“I get excited to bring friends here so I can see their faces once they bite a kolache! Every time I have one I think about how crazy good the dough is, no clue how they do it. The owners (I’m assuming) are the kindest ever. So consistently bright and welcoming, thank you!“

“As you walk in, you are greeted with the most wonderful smells of pastries and chocolate. I know they are known for their babka and after seeing the fresh baked babka loaves in person, I can see why. They looked heavenly and smelled amazing. I told the owner I'll take a nice sized chunk and figured the old measuring with the fingers to describe my preference worked. I ended up with about a 3/4 lb chunk of babka that will last me for at least 2 days. They also price this by the weight and my piece was around $10 which I think is pretty reasonable!
The owner was also super friendly, and even gave me a small piece of the babka trim off the piece I bought on the house, which was the best little slice of babka I have ever had! It's pretty rich in a good way so I didn't even start to tackle the piece of babka I bought until later in the day. You get the ooey gooey chocolate mixed with the softness of the bread which makes for such a delicious experience. It would probably also go really well with a glass of milk! They had a bunch of different other baked goods I wish I would've tried but maybe next time! The city is lucky to have a spot like this, and I appreciate that the owner is also involved as it makes it feel more authentic and genuine.“

“Very good nice clean store, fresh, used to be affordable, and have price tags on every item, now there's no more prices on any of the items so when you show up to the register you get charged like $6 for a donut. But otherwise good food“

“It's a big operation. THe smells alone are worth the trip. everything looked great. what i had tasted great. I was a little suprised that there were only 2 flavors of rugula, chocolate (which was amazing) and vanilla. Iwas hoping for some fruit flavors bbut I didn't find any. Still well worth the trip.“

“What a lovely spot! I had the Cold Italian sandwich and it was scrumptious, and if I lived in the neighborhood I would absolutely be there all the time to stock up on pickles and olives and other charcuterie staples. And the sidewalk tables are perfect for people (and dog!) watching“

“Mr. C's bakery always has something fresh and warm coming out of the oven. I usually buy loaves of hard-dough bread, which come in either regular wheat or whole wheat. Sometimes, there may be a line, but it moves relatively quickly. Parking in this area is next to zero unless you can snag a metered spot on Church Avenue or Utica Avenue. Overall, their baked goods and Caribbean treats are great, and the prices are decent.

“Love that Breads opened up an outpost here. It’s the perfect place to pick up lunch and picnic at Brooklyn Bridge Park. This isn’t a full sized Breads Bakery, but they have plenty of baked goods, sandwiches and coffees. Gotta try the exclusive pizza babka!“

“The staff here are always super friendly, no matter what time of day you stop by, which definitely adds to the experience. However, it is on the pricier side compared to other local coffee spots like Variety. I paid $18 for a bacon (Canadian ham), egg, and cheese on focaccia. It was tasty, but honestly, not quite worth the price. The space is very small and can be uncomfortable waiting for food/drinks when there is more than three people inside.“

“Fun little spot! Very sweet desserts. Ashley is the best. My friend and I came in super close to closing time (our bad!) but Ashley was very nice to us and helped us get some good desserts. Pie is good (my friend really loved it, but was a little too sweet for me), the cornflake cookie is good. Most surprising was the peanut butter cookie! I don't usually like peanut butter cookies, but I did like this one. It was also a little less sweet. I'd come back to this location to try the soft serve or some of the other options.“
“Most delicious bakery!! I have eaten more than my share of their amazing donuts even though I only went in there for the health bread ( Chezkel Bread) which is by far the best anywhere!“
