“Mikes has been a staple in the community for almost 40 years i remember bringing my kid to have breakfast on Saturday mornings before her activities it was cheap and cheerful Pratt students and faculty would be there as well. Now its practically same staff bathroom remodeled and costs have increased but so as everuthing else same friendly and fulfilling breakfast no bells and whistles but simple good food“

“Baby Blues Luncheonette definitely lives up to the hype. When we arrived, it was already pretty crowded, and for good reason. They don’t take reservations, so be prepared to wait especially on a Sunday around 11:30 a.m. like we did. We ended up waiting about two hours, but they do send you a notification when your table’s ready, and they also show you how many parties are ahead of you, which makes the wait feel a bit more manageable.

The place itself is small, and tables are pretty close together, but it wasn’t an issue for us. The menu is straightforward and easy to navigate, and the prices are very reasonable. My partner got the “Plato’s Plate,” and I went for the “Chicken Club.” Both were fantastic. My partner gave her dish a 9/10, and I’d give mine the same rating. The price-to-quality ratio was excellent, and we had no complaints. The only small note from my partner was that the bacon on her plate was a bit greasy, but it wasn’t a big deal.

We also shared a side of “Greek Potatoes and Tzatziki.” That dish was another 9/10. The only downside was that there wasn’t quite enough tzatziki for all the potatoes, so I’d recommend asking for extra on the side if you order it. No real issue though, just a small suggestion. We had an “Iced Coffee” and a “Regular Coffee” with our meal, and both were spot on.

One more thing: we were treated to a complimentary dish of fresh strawberries and blueberries with whipped cream (as you can see in the photo I included). We’re not sure what it was called, but it was light, refreshing, and delicious. Easily a 10/10, and I’d highly recommend it if you get the chance.

The service was also excellent. Our server was friendly and attentive, and even the hostess deserves a shoutout. We arrived a bit late for our seating time, but she was understanding and still got us a table despite it being so busy. Really appreciated that.

The bill was pretty reasonable for everything we got, and I left a $15 tip because of the great service and the complimentary fruit bowl.

Overall, we had a fantastic experience, great food, great atmosphere, and excellent service. The wait time can be long (ours was 2 hours), but it’s totally worth it when you consider the quality of the food and the prices. I’ll definitely be back, and I highly recommend you give it a try too!

It does not have a sign that says must have cash, but when my wife and I went to pay for our breakfast we were told cash only. So as a heads up, make sure you have cash in your pocket in order to pay for your food. But overall we love the food we love the service and we love the atmosphere. “This is one of those hidden gems that only locals know about. I was looking for a diner style place to eat, and this came up. And we decided to give it a try and boy, was I not disappointed. It definitely brings you back to like the nineties with the décor and style. However, the service and the food were on point. Our food and our service were fast and delicious.“

My partner got a salad. The protein (chicken kebabs) was delicious though wished there was a different greens option to pair with it. Spinach or romaine or even mixed seasonal greens.

Anyway worth a visit if you are craving a solid diner experience.

“This is a decent little diner that has good food and service. The prices here are pretty reasonable regardless of what other reviewers are saying, and they have a good-sized menu. Since the place is very small, I opted for counter seating as opposed to a table as there aren't too many seats available for a single person. The establishment is clean and the staff is friendly. The one critique I would give is that they need to upgrade the silverware as it is a bit dated, and my fork was bent. For those driving, parking in this neighborhood could be rather difficult, in my opinion. Is it possible maybe bc the old owners are quite bitter they had to close down due to them being caught for not selling kosher? Maybe. “Reviews are all over the place on Mex Carroll's Diner. Can tell you this though, our meals were definitely 5 stars. Didn't look at the reviews before going here and glad we didn't as we might have passed it up. We were meeting with an attorney nearby and when we left we asked her about it. She noted she has eaten there many times and it was very good. She also mentioned it was a "Mexican Diner". Didn't quite grasped what was meant by this, but when we got the menu we understood. Whoa, tremendous menu. Over 20 different types of omelettes, 7 different eggs benedict variations, at least twenty different burger styles, pasta dishes, etc. Something for everyone. Never knew something like a "Mexican Diner" existed. Nice concept.

As mentioned previously our meals were 5 star. The same could be said for the service and dining atmosphere. We ate outside in their backyard courtyard. Pleasantly decorated and comfortable. Surrounded by greenery and most of the tables had large umbrellas to keep the sun from beaming down on you. No issues with the service provide by the wait staff. On our way out we were wished a good a good day. We had brunch which was an order of Huevos Rancheros and Eggs Benedict. Had a choice of red or green salsa to go with the Huevos Rancheros. Went with the green which was perfect. Not too spicy, but not bland either. It came with refried beans and yellow rice. Both were a delight. Ordered a fresh squeezed orange juice that was as fresh squeezed should be...in other words really good. Mexican Diner with tons of Mexican breakfast choices and what does my wife order...Eggs Benedict! Well, I guess that's the point of a diner. Lots of choices. Verdict on the Eggs Benedict was a thumbs up. Very good with no complaints.

BTW...Might have to put some of the one star reviews in context. One person left a one star because they wouldn't let him use the bathroom. Just came in off the street and wasn't going to order anything. Really? Also there are complaints about the prices. We thought they were reasonable especially considering the portion size. “My favorite diner hands down. I moved to Staten Island a few years ago, but still cross the bridge when I want the best French toast. I visit at least once a week.
