Boy, were we glad that we picked this place for dinner while en route via amtrak.We had the Wonton Nacho, State Grill Burger and the Truffle Shuffle Burger. “We went for a late Valentine’s dinner. We had the passed the place a few times saying we have to try it someday so we did. I suggest making a reservation because they fill up quickly at dinner time. The food was great and fresh with no disappointments. It’s not a shirt and tie place but slightly dated and comfortable. The pitcher option for margaritas is a great option. The staff was busy but helpful and attentive. Will go again and again.“
“I ate here for brunch, and the food was delicious! The restaurant has a cozy, warm and welcoming atmosphere. It was extremely busy as there was a show happening so it took a while for us to get our food. However it was not an issue for us as we were not in a rush and the prosecco kept flowing!“

Anything food wise on the menu will score high points on the taste meter, as well as their signature drinks doing the same. “Fantastic food and drinks. Very fresh and carefully crafted. Very nice restaurant inside with good acoustics and lighting. The menu can be a bit difficult to decipher if you’re not familiar with Spanish but the waiters are great at explaining each item, if necessary. We felt a bit bad because we were asking the waiter about everything because we had no idea what we were reading. Overall we had a great experience and would return if we came back to the area again.“
“I love that you can choose your own adventure at Avalon Lounge. You can see a show, eat good Korean food, hang out upstairs where it's a little quieter, play pool, or hang in the main bar. It's always a good time. I also love that they do pop-ups/markets during the day sometimes on weekends!“
“A great stop after walking a section of the Empire State Rail Trail. Such a welcoming “inn” feel. The staff was super friendly. And there was a very large selection of beers from all over. This was our first visit and we can’t wait to go back. Parking isn’t an issue. There’s a lot right up the street if you can’t find street parking in the quaint town of Kinderhook.“
“The four of us had a wonderful evening at the Universal Cafe last night. Dinner was absolutely delicious, creatively composed, and I can’t wait to return. Located in Germantown, NY only 30 minutes away from Rhinebeck, it’s a hidden gem that was the perfect spot on a cold Winter’s night. I started my meal with thinly sliced sweet Cara Cara oranges on a pool of peppery olive oil with crushed pistachios served ice cold… so refreshing after the decadent pâté appetizer. My cod entree was beautifully cooked and served with a silky root vegetable purée. The chocolate pot de crème finished the meal and was so good. The portions were generous, the prices very reasonable, and our server was super charming. Thank you for a wonderful night!“
“We stumbled upon this unique bar when visiting the historic downtown. I promise this is one of the more unique bars you’ll ever go into. It’s attached to an antique store with cool items placed around the bar. Drinks were priced fairly. We are from out of town but ended up talking to the friendly locals after being inside a few minutes. Great place!“

From the moment we walked in it was like catching up with old friends and left there feeling like we were friends for life. “Upscale pub atmosphere with very friendly and genuine service. Across the board the food is incredible - extremely flavorful and complex making for an exciting dining experience. The half chicken dish is simply unbelievable - in a class of its own.If there were any disappointments it was only because many other dishes performed so well. My tacos are great on their own but will not be the stars of the show. The maple ice cream is very good but a bit strongly flavored for the end of the night.We will return, probably many more times.“
“Was staying in Cairo at the Catskills Getaway cabins, and got in after dark the first night. Didn't feel like cooking, so we found this unexpected gem along the Catskill Creek. There was only another party of 3 at the bar at the time, however the bartender quickly warmed up to us and had great conversation throughout. We started with the DJ Shrimp. Delicious, just the right bit of kick (spice heat). Then we had Chicken Milanese, and a rotating seasonal pasta called Tuscan Sausage Fusilli with EVOO, spinach and sun dried tomatoes, with a Side of focaccia bread. All were delicious, and very filling. Everything was perfect for a Birthday dinner. The liquor drinks were kind of pricey, but I should have expected that for a double Bulleit I suppose. All in all, absolutely try this gem if you come across it, you will not be disappointed for quality and ambiance.“

“We got married at Vanderbilt Lakeside in August 2023 and had a wonderful experience working with Henrietta and Matt after stumbling upon the venue on Airbnb. It was meant to be because we later figured out that we had frequented Henrietta’s bar, Night of Joy, in Brooklyn when we first started dating and her amazing aesthetic really comes through. We had our closest friends stay with us at the house for the weekend and hosted 100 guests.The look and feel of the space is uniquely chic and quirky all at once with beautiful modern and vintage accents. It's quite whimsical which makes for awesome wedding photos - we didn’t need any additional decor, except for flowers. The backyard/deck space and lakeside views were exquisite in late summer sunshine. The day of our wedding the rain held out for us and we were able to have our ceremony on the lawn, facing the lake and had dinner under a tent on the deck with additional seating in the adjacent room with the sliding doors fully open, and dancing in the bar room under the disco ball. The lawn games and pool table added to the summery and fun atmosphere.Henrietta was very clear in her communication, very responsive, patient throughout our planning process from beginning to end, and offered recommendations for other vendors and services, which were really helpful to us. Henrietta and Matt were also super helpful and flexible in assisting us with our food and beverage selections, answering our many many questions, and providing staff (who were all friendly and professional) when needed. All of the food was truly excellent and everything was served on time. The grilled cheese sandwiches and handcut fries we had as afterparty snacks were a massive hit. Henrietta was also around and available to assist throughout our wedding weekend, which we really appreciated and she communicated well with all of our vendors.We’re so grateful that we found Vanderbilt Lakeside and will forever cherish the memories of our wedding there. We highly recommend it!“
