“My partner and I booked a last-minute reservation at Aviary on a snowy night over the holidays, and it turned into one of the highlights of our visit to the area. The staff was warm and welcoming, the vibe lively and pleasant, and the food delicious. The menu was inventive and the portions plentiful, and we felt like we were lucky to have picked this spot. Recommended, next time you're in the area.”

Their farm-fresh offerings are locally sourced & community-driven (you can literally SEE the farm from your table!). Their Bees Knees honey lavender milkshake with gin is my favorite summer after-work treat - non-alcoholic ice cream options also available for the younger family members, of course.”

It’s perfectly balanced: rich and creamy mascarpone layered with delicate, espresso-soaked ladyfingers that melt in your mouth without being soggy. The dusting of cocoa on top adds just the right touch of bitterness to complement the sweetness. Every bite feels light yet indulgent, with that authentic Italian flavor that’s hard to find outside of Italy.”

“For the sake of full disclosure I’ve worked with the owners for over twenty years in the television industry. They have brought the same dedication and amazing attention to detail that has resulted in their tremendously successful careers, to their wonderful new restaurant. They have thought of EVERY detail from the whimsical videos playing in the rest rooms to the sugar cubes for your espresso... they have missed nothing. The menu is inventive and perfectly executed... Watermelon Gazpacho?! Whoa! The unique presentation of the Calamari appetizer was wonderful. Bouillabaisse?! You don’t find that as the seafood option very often... what a treat. Others in my group enjoyed perfectly cooked steaks and the slightly smoky Mac & Cheese. Of course the cheese plates are spectacular. This is one of those meals you won’t forget! But wait did I mention the speakeasy downstairs? The perfectly appointed room features an amazing menu of craft cocktails AND six draft beers to choose from... including Ommegang Rare Vos... you simply don’t find that on tap anywhere!! Finally a word about the service. It was impeccable, perfectly attentive without being stuffy. Chris and Ellen have created a destination restaurant!”

“A perfect summer meal in a gorgeous garden - when we arrived we discovered their daily menu had few vegetarian options so we asked if the chef could make some simple grilled vegetable and instead he made 7 exquisite, world class veggie dishes - our server told us he took it as in inspiring challenge. while the beef and shellfish dishes enjoyed by half the table were perfectly executed (in facvt, the clam broth made we swoon in joy) the vegetarians were the winners (and graciously shared their summer bounty with the whole table)”

“We were out and about in Hudson today and we were a little hungry so we stopped into kitties and I had probably one of the best egg sandwiches I ever had. I highly recommend the egg sandwich with sauerkraut. The vibe in there was very comfortable iced coffee Was nice and strong. They had a great bakery selection and a lot of local products. So if you’re coming out of the train station in Hudson, I say swing by kitties you won’t be sorry.”

We had a smashburger and fries, the deviled eggs, and the hand cut chicken bites which I loved and were served with the tastiest ranch sauce I've ever had. “I love the service. The food is ALWAYS delicious. I’m a sucker for their omelettes. I love a good window seat and to write while I’m there. It’s always clean and everyone is friendly and I love watching all the families and regulars come in with their kids or grand parents. The coffee is good. The parking is endless and they have a ramp for anyone needing the use of it. Desserts galore in tall fridge as soon as you walk in — you can always grab that to go after you finish your meal. Large portions. Excellent prices. I love the place!!”

“My husband and I had our 90-guest wedding at the Vanderbilt on 6/8/24 and it could not have been any better. We found the Vanderbilt on Airbnb when looking for a unique wedding venue, visited it in January of 2023, and booked it instantly- didn’t even see another venue. As stated in previous reviews, Henrietta made the planning process as easy as possible. We communicated mainly via email, but she allowed us to come to the space as often as we needed (I think between both of our families we were there 3 times). She also provided a list of vendors that previous wedding parties had used at the Vanderbilt, which I used for our planner, tent company, shuttle company and photographer (all great). When it came time for the tasting, we were provided with an extensive menu of food and drinks curated by Matt. We were blown away by the food. As the wedding day approached, Henrietta was easy to communicate with and flexible. She helped us plan a thorough rainy day plan B, and was the bearer of good news when she called me 2 days prior to tell me the weather looked good and we were going with plan A. The weekend of the wedding was incredible. Our families stayed in the 8 rooms upstairs Friday and Saturday night. Henrietta and Matt were in early on Saturday to get everything prepared. Their team was incredible. After the ceremony, Henrietta greeted us with champagne and a congratulations. When cocktail hour ended and we realized we were so busy that we didn’t even eat our appetizers, Henrietta put together a plate for us and brought it over. I’ve heard from a number of guests that the food was the best they’ve had at a wedding, and I agree. It’s important to note that the staff was also FUN to have around. Bartenders and servers interacted with guests and kept the energy light and fun. The next morning, Matt prepared a great breakfast (much needed) for those staying at the Vanderbilt, even including some leftovers of our banana pudding dessert from the night before. Now let’s quickly talk about the space. The Vanderbilt Lakeside is the most unique space I’ve ever seen. Each room has its own personality and is decorated meticulously and beautifully. I only had to bring in decorations for the tables, as the venue itself was already perfect. The deck was a perfect fit for our 90-person dinner. The lawn, outdoor bar, and lawn games were a hit for those who wanted to chill out rather than dance. The Bar room was the perfect size for our musicians and a dance floor. The rooms upstairs are clean, all about the same size, and all have their own bathrooms to make for a comfortable stay. Overall, I cannot recommend the Vanderbilt enough. We’re racking our brains for an excuse to host another event there. Henrietta and Matt are incredible to work with!”

“I was just traveling through the area and had the good fortune to give this cafe a try for breakfast and I have to say it was perfect,every part of my meal was delicious. I have rarely been so satisfied with the freshness and preparation of a meal but these folks are putting in the care and work to do things right, my waffles were stellar definitely not made with pancake mix like so many mediocre restaurants do everything was well seasoned and nicely presented by an attentive staff.I garuantee you anytime I am any where near Chatham I will be dining here(I live in Maine but visit friends and relatives in the Albany area)!”
