“The decor at Victors Cafe was absolutely stunning! I was pleasantly surprised by how beautiful and classy it felt, with a wonderful tropical vibe. This place is nowhere near authentic Cuban cuisine — not even if it were sitting right next to Havana. What they call Ropa Vieja is basically just beef stew. There’s absolutely no understanding of Cuban culture, flavors, or hospitality, which makes sense considering they are not Cuban.

When you ask for something as basic and traditional as moro to go with Ropa Vieja, they act like it’s an unusual request and explain that it’s not included. Their “solution” is to mix watered‑down black beans with white rice and whatever else they decide to throw in. It’s not even close.

The décor doesn’t help either. A few cigar boxes here and there, but most of it is Santa Muerte imagery — so, as you can guess, not Cuban at all. “I've mixed feelings about this place. Everything was good except the food portions. The prices we paid for the amount of food was unacceptable. I ordered Chinese noodles with meat. There were more noodles than meat. I felt like I was fishing for it. It was like a spoon size on it. My friends ordered steak. The portion was smaller than a chicken breast.

“I came to this restaurant for the first time on Saturday, and I completely fell in love with the food. Everything was absolutely delicious. It was so good that I went back again on Sunday brought my mother-in-law with me, and now today, Tuesday, I’m going back again — that’s how amazing it is.
I usually don’t like to only write reviews when something is bad, so I had to make sure I wrote one for this place because they truly deserve it. The food, the flavor, and the overall experience were just incredible.

“Great food and great service. The food reminds me of home and is reasonably priced. We keep coming back for the ox tail stew, ribs, beef steak, porkchops, dumplings and the boneless chicharonnes de pollo. Most meals are served with white or yellow rice and beans or vegetables. If you want to try something different, they have the beef liver and squid ink fried rice which remind me of squid ink Paella. The combination meals are a great option to try out different dishes. The staff and owners always greet you with a warm welcome.“

Also, suggestion for the restaurant, I'm not sure if that corn based sauce that comes out with the Yuca frita is authentic to Cuba but some good ol garlic and olive oil mojo would be way better.“

“A big shout out to my best latin place in Hoboken: Chango Kitchen. Traditional yummy latin dishes. Our faves are churrasco con chimichurri (skirt steakgrilled) and ropa vieja (shredded beef). My kids loved "alfajores with dulce de leche", "tres leches" and hot chocolate with when it's cold outside. Service is warm and friendly. “This place is beautiful awesome playlist. I went on a Sunday and there was plenty of parking but I am sure it would be more difficult on a weekday until after 6pm when street parking becomes available. The burger and fries very solid, the el mensajero drink was excellent, I had some toast with ricotta, honey and almonds that was really good as well. It wasnt very crowded but the space is awesome I would like to go back on one of their event days. Overall good experience will come back for sure.“

I tried fish and also lunch specials twice out three times being there, I recommend fish and cow tail. You might have a little bit of problem communicating in english, but all of the times that I had lunch there, they prepared exactly what I meant. I ordered the Cuban sandwich, and it was absolutely delicious. Everything was flavorful, fresh, and cooked perfectly. You could really taste the Cuban flavors, and it honestly exceeded my expectations. I recommend if this is your first time coming to defenitly try it.

What made the experience even better was the service. Everyone was so friendly, attentive, and welcoming throughout our meal. It really felt like they cared about making our visit special. “I was a seeking a more elevated Chinese food experience. My last few fast food Chinese fast food experiences at other locations were scary. I believe I got exactly what I was looking for. The chicken pepper, onion, w/black bean sauce was skillfully prepared with good quality chicken and not the typical freeze dried trash, and the dish was savory and delicious. The wonton soup was also notable and I enjoyed the thin delicate tasty wontons. Even the rice was clearly higher quality. The modestly higher price was absolutely worth it to me for the quality of this Chinese food and I look forward to returning..“
