This place is nowhere near authentic Cuban cuisine — not even if it were sitting right next to Havana. What they call Ropa Vieja is basically just beef stew. There’s absolutely no understanding of Cuban culture, flavors, or hospitality, which makes sense considering they are not Cuban.

When you ask for something as basic and traditional as moro to go with Ropa Vieja, they act like it’s an unusual request and explain that it’s not included. Their “solution” is to mix watered‑down black beans with white rice and whatever else they decide to throw in. It’s not even close.

The décor doesn’t help either. A few cigar boxes here and there, but most of it is Santa Muerte imagery — so, as you can guess, not Cuban at all. “I came across this Cuban fusion restaurant. The interior design with the lighting is absolutely gorgeous. Low key reminds me of clubbing. It was packed when I went but my server was super attentive and always taking care of me. I ordered the crispy wings with sesame garlic and it was bomb! The flavor was on point and the meat is super tender yet juicy! Next, I also ordered black rice seafood paella because I love black rice and it does have a kick to it. So if you don’t like spicy I dont recommend but the flavor is a spicy and sour. I never eaten any Cuban so it wasn’t my favorite but the clams calamari and shrimp were fresh! It was a bit salty and I think they recently changed a new chef but my server was so nice and immediately ask
if I wanted to order something else which I did. I ordered the mushroom noodles and the mushroom were super tender and each strand of the noodles were covered with sauce! It’s a simple dish but it reminds me of home. And to finish that I ordered dessert. I was a bit indecisive with either mango sorbet or tres leches but I chose tres leche. The sweetness is definitely suitable for me. It’s not tooo sweet for me but the cake itself is on the dry part. I am definitely coming back for their happy hours menu! I saw the $2 oyster and their mango sorbet!“

“I came to this restaurant for the first time on Saturday, and I completely fell in love with the food. Everything was absolutely delicious. It was so good that I went back again on Sunday brought my mother-in-law with me, and now today, Tuesday, I’m going back again — that’s how amazing it is.

“Came in for lunch after a very busy morning at work, and, if I'm being honest, with a minor hangover. Everything about this place fixed me right up. I felt like I went to lunch at my tia's. The ropa veja I got tasted exactly like the one I grew up eating. Comfort food and comforting vibes.“

“This was my first visit here. (I previously have had delivery on a couple of occasions and the food was very good.) Despite being a little early for our reservations and the place being very busy, we were seated immediately at the outdoor table I had requested in the reservations. The cocktails didn't take that long to be brought and were very good. The fried calamari appetizer (tapas) was outstanding- each piece perfectly crispy and not one piece was chewy. The sweet chili sauce worked very well with a mild heat in the middle of the tongue surrounded by sweetness. My wife enjoyed the jamon croquettas despite it lacking any sort of aioli or dipping sauce. My main dish of the deep fried Red Snapper was perfectly crisp on the outside, moist and tender inside and all around tasty. My wife enjoyed her fired cheese mofongo. Dessert of guava cheesecake and also the flan were good as well. Overall, service was good and the maitre d' walks around checking in on guests which is a nice touch. Overall, I thought the prices were very reasonable and you get nice size portions making it a good value. Just be aware that inside is fairly large and can get loud. Their windows are thick and outside you only really hear it when the door opens. Considering we live across the street and stare at the place from our windows, we'll be back, likely often.“

We keep coming back for the ox tail stew, ribs, beef steak, porkchops, dumplings and the boneless chicharonnes de pollo. Most meals are served with white or yellow rice and beans or vegetables. If you want to try something different, they have the beef liver and squid ink fried rice which remind me of squid ink Paella. The combination meals are a great option to try out different dishes. The staff and owners always greet you with a warm welcome.“

“This place is one of the best places to have a healthy lunch in West New York. I am amazed that it doesn't have any review yet. I tried fish and also lunch specials twice out three times being there, I recommend fish and cow tail. A nice girl works there having very helpful attitude toward customers (unfortunately I don't remember her name but you will find her at lunch). You might have a little bit of problem communicating in english, but all of the times that I had lunch there, they prepared exactly what I meant. A meal size was more than enough for me and I am not skinny, unhealthy or anything. Did I mention the price? it is worth every penny.“

The chicken pepper, onion, w/black bean sauce was skillfully prepared with good quality chicken and not the typical freeze dried trash, and the dish was savory and delicious. The wonton soup was also notable and I enjoyed the thin delicate tasty wontons. Even the rice was clearly higher quality. “This is one of my new favorite spots. Ima start off with the negative because it’ll be a lot shorter than the good. The only bad thing is that you got to walk a lil bit to get to it so if you aren’t able bodied it might take you a minute to get over but it is so worth it. The good things about this place is everything ngl. The staff are sweethearts, we never got the name of the two ladies but one of them started up a chat with my sister about her hair and she was so genuine. I really wanted to explore the menu so I got a shot of espresso, a chicken empanada, a steak sandwich and my sister had a grilled chicken sandwich. I spent a lil over $20 with tip and it was worth every penny. Sandwiches flavors were balanced and tasted great, bread was nice and soft but not too soft. The chicken empanada was nice and crispy and the chicken was seasoned well. Lastly the most important thing for a coffee spot, the Espresso shot was strong and tasty. Will def be coming back here with more people. I would’ve added photos but I thought to take the photos when I was already half way done my bad. Menu also had food options for pets!“

It was fine, but it wasn't what I really wanted. Word to the wise: pass on the tres leches. It's a flavorless cake with the wrong texture swimming in a pool of evaporated milk. The taste is wrong, the texture is wrong, and two of the three milks are missing.“
