“A beef empanada from this cart on Austin Street was the first thing I ever ate when I moved to NYC. Y'all, it was GREAT. The local who insisted I had to grab one as we walked by absolutely knew what he was talking about. Abuela's Empanadas was my introduction to the fat-kid status that would come to describe the entire time I lived in New York City as a Midwestern transplant, lol. I still remember my eyes popping out of my head as I realized how good this was and that if this was what I was getting from a random food cart, I'd want to try every restaurant in the city.“

“Went to the brand new Houston location and things are a bit rocky with staffing and supplies but I want to brag on your employee CAMILLA ! We came from NC and after visiting Puerto Rico several times I was so excited for this experience! She was so patient with us! Answered all our questions with a very helpful and cheerful attitude even tho she was drowning in drink orders! With only one other helper, she never showed any frustration and provided excellent above and beyond customer service! The cashier with her was brand new and super sweet as well! Camilla even gave me a hug when we left! She made my whole morning! And gave us the absolute best breakfast recommendation as well! Thank u so much Camilla for your grace and kindness this morning. U had no idea that my Morning started out so crappy, and your sweet personality and loving spirit really turned my day around and the tres leches latte was AMAZING 🙌🏼🩷💯 yall go see them and be patient …..it’s worth the wait ❤️ side note… the whole place is decorated beautifully! “Cute spot for a quick empanada snack; there are no indoor seating. The ropa vieja empanada was delicious. Not big on the carnita as it's not as flavorful as the other empanadas. Each flavor of empanada has a marking on it just in case you forget which one is which when you take them out of the separated bags . Chicken noodle soup is tomato based.“

“Loved the food - the five of us ordered everything on the starter and entree menu to share, and the winner was the steak. The fish and chips was very special too. Everything was very yummy, and the service was exceptional given there was only one server and one bartender on a Friday night. I took one star off only because there was no AC and I was eaten alive by mosquitos.“

I started to come two years ago which gradually led to meet ups for book club, live music, catchups with friends, and just enjoying the best food/drinks. This week my partner had a venue close down their spot on the day of their birthday and two days before their birthday party. Hide and Seek welcomed us with open arms and helped us create the best birthday yet. Thank you for the best experience, service and accommodating us so last minute! Vegetarian options: It is not a restaurant focused on vegetarian food but they sell salads, juices and a person who does not eat meat can still enjoy a good meal.

“Upon entering i immediately felt like i was back in DR, the chicken yaroa was so perfectly seasoned, easily the best i’ve had. The picadera had the best chuleta ahumada and their natural cherry juice was very good as well. They’re open late which is very convenient“

“The empanadas here are pretty good and for the most part is consistent. This is our go to place for Colombian empanadas.

Are regular orders include Colombian beef and potato, huevos pericos, bacon, egg, and cheese, and pernil. There have been some that we’ve tried that just didn’t have enough filling, but those are pretty consistent.

I recommend the green sauce and the pink sauce. Green sauce is a little spicy and pink sauce is mayo based and kind of like a sweeter version of mayo and ketchup.

Definitely call ahead if you can. There’s usually only one person working at the front and she is usually juggling the phone and in person. Not the greatest service, but definitely not her fault.

The store itself is less than desirable, but we always pick up to go so it is not an issue.“
