“In a restaurant world dressed up with disingenuous marketing JOEY Yorkdale offers you a magnificent spot outside downtown Toronto that delivers what it promises on their home page, “Our guests, new or old, are not treated just as guests, but as if they are a good friend we are catching up with.” And this was the experience for me and my two close chums who selected this spot primarily because it was the midpoint between our diverse locations. From first arriving, the hostess took the time to offer a complimentary champagne glass and inquire if our visit that day was for a special occasion. It was a reunion and she graciously followed up with pleasant comments establishing a charming mood. When the waitress came to greet us, she also took the time to find out more about the nature of our reunion and only then flawlessly delved into the menu. I understand this is common practice at luxury restaurants; however, I would contend that, although there are dining establishments that treat patrons similarly, it is not simply about what you do but, rather, how well you do it. And this is the reason I am taking the time to write this review: JOEY does it very well. Having frequented several luxury restaurants in downtown Toronto I can anecdotally share with you that there have been far too many occasions when the host and/or server left a poor impression. Whether it is conceited complacency in their brand or even our own bigotry of unrealistic expectations, there seldom is a meeting point of both food, service, and overall impression. The treatment at JOEY was so genuine that it left an indelible impression. Each interaction with the server and hostess throughout complemented our dining experience. We were then surprised with dessert on the house presented on an expansive serving plate with the words “Happy Reunion!” written in caramel. Delicious, delicious caramel. Mmmm, but I digress… Over the years I have written to restaurants far more complaints than compliments and, in retrospect, this is unfair. It takes a team and a culture to create this magic and it can be quite challenging to get it right. When it comes together as well as it did on our visit, it is the sort of joy that can accompany you throughout your day. At JOEY they seem to have captured the right formula and I look forward to returning and catching up with “good friends” that understand that going out to eat today is about so much more.“

“Our family attended Sunday lunch for a birthday celebration. It was not our first time here, and each and every time Hogans exceeds expectations! The two talented waiters that serviced our table went above and beyond. They were both equally kind, knowledgeable, experienced and offered outstanding service. The table setting was nothing less than exquisite! The chef…… I don’t know how he pulls it off each and every time! He must be magical! “Over the years I have been to some pretty shady places that had questionable customer service..: but that was kind of to be expected considering the typical clientele at said spots. I arrived here at 5:50pm.., a single person looking to experience a new to me restaurant. Introducing the pickle barrel.. price point was crazy good. Reservations easy to make. One person for 5:45 pm. Took a minute to find the space, once in waitress was attentive, I ordered an appy and a half priced bottle of wine. Keep in mind it was just me and when I arrived there was no one here in a HUGE space. I also ordered the holiday 3 course dinner... an appy of butternut squash soup, a main of apple chicken and for desert apple blossom. Again, it's just ME!!! They bring out the calamari AND the soup...no big deal. Calamari sucked ballz, timid temp and rubbery as hell..:whatever, calamari is an art that not everyone can master. They also brought the soup at the same time. No big deal, it's just me, no one else here so I have time right?! 🤷🏽‍♀️ Nope, half way through the Calamari they bring my Main... ask them to keep it under the lamp, no problem... 5 minutes later the main arrives... still not done the calamari.... Or the soup Finish the appies and ask them for a container so I can re heat my food when I get home since it's cold/ Great, no prob Keep in mind I got here at 5:50pm it is now 7:51 No desert and no waitress to even ask for it During this terrible dinner service a table of 6 arrived and a table of 3. I know full well a table of 6 scores more dollars than a table for 1 but now I will never come back... so was it worth it? Not for me 🤦🏻‍♀️🤷🏽‍♀️ A complete waste of time! Note: I ended up having to go speak to the hostess to let her know my concerns, get my desert and my bill. It was at this point that the original waitress asked me if I needed anything... I told her someone else was getting my bill. *hostess offered a discount ,wasn't necessary but appreciated.“

“Not truly wheelchair accessible. I was very much looking forward to dining here. After reading some of the other comments in the question section, we called to confirm the extent to which they are wheelchair accessible. Utterly disappointed to find out that although they have a ramp, the only accessible dining areas are if you're with one of the large groups. Meaning that as an individual with accessibility needs, I was excluded from dining at this restaurant. My accessibility needs are temporary, however you can guarantee I won't be dining at this restaurant even when I'm able to walk again, until they rectify this situation. Inexcusable to exclude people with mobility needs in this day and age.“

“Delicious every time! The seasonal menu is always a delight for the senses. I live two provinces away and we happened upon this gem of a place a couple of years ago. Yesterday, I had a layover in Toronto of around 12 hours. Took a terminal train, the up train, the subway and my feet all the way from Winnipeg to dine here. Scrumptious. Healthy. Leaves you feeling full without guilt! Two thumbs way up!“

Our velvety smooth mushroom soup with oil infusion was an excellent beginning to this celebratory dinner. Our moist ,glazed turkey and cranberry stuffing were adorned with mashed potatoes, roasted carrots and brussel sprouts. Berry compote with creamy vanilla ice cream topped this delicious dinner. The waitress made this festive holiday meal a celebration to remember !“

“I have put a note thas its my sisters birthday and i want candle on my dessert The dessert came w no candles, the table was not clean , the dised and sayces from th food was still on the table When i asked for a candle or at least a happy birthday note the server took our dessert away and came back and said sorry the kitchen is closing!! I told her i already mentioned in my reservation and she said sorry we didnt see So whats the point of reserving with Opentable if they dont pay attention to the notes? “Have had both steak and crab here and both were excellent, you can get equally good steak for a similar price at many other steakhouses in Toronto but the seafood stood out to me. Side dishes weren't anything special but are included with some orders.

It's not cheap but service was very friendly and to me it was worth it.“

“We truly enjoyed a leisurely lunch today at Kelsey's Richmond Hill. We need to give a lot of the credit and thanks to our server, Sarah, who was always there when we needed her. She provided us with some excellent suggestions for food and drinks as well as impeccable service coming from a warm and friendly person. While my wife was thoroughly enjoying a cup of tea and a hearty soup with salad and a sandwich, I was just beside myself with every bite of the mushroom melt burger. The burger and fries were prepared and cooked to perfection. I highly recommend that you try this burger, especially if you love mushrooms. Treat yourself. I was also introduced to a delicious refreshing beer called Muskoka Pineapple Ninja. I've never seen it before and it appears that if I can't find anywhere else I'll have to go back. All in all, this was a perfect afternoon. Also, we have promised ourselves that we are going to do this again next week.“

The owner acts like he's untouchable and says things like " you're in a bar what do you expect " . I expect to be treated as a paying customer. Never going there again. also... one of the servers is literally always drunk out of her mind... my very first visit she was crying about her ex... and almost every time I ordered wings SHE GOT MY ORDER WRONG....over and over again!! let's just say ive had many free wings and stuff from her as an apology... I gave them a chance. several actually. but after that conversation with the owner.... im done. DO NOT RECOMMENDED!!!!“

“Today I had my son's 1st birthday party at the restaurant. Our waitress (Madison I believe) was great! She was patient, organized and was so kind and helpful. Serving 30 people cannot be an easy task for anyone. We hope the staff enjoy the leftover cake!“
