“The Service was great but I will never order the pancakes from them again, I was undercooked and dorothy on the inside. I told our waitress and they brought me a new one and It's same thing, either they don't communicate with the kitchen or the people who cook the pancakes just don't care. Eventhough the waitress has rectify the issue and asked me if I want to order something else but everyone already finished eating so end up didn't get to eat.“

From first arriving, the hostess took the time to offer a complimentary champagne glass and inquire if our visit that day was for a special occasion. It was a reunion and she graciously followed up with pleasant comments establishing a charming mood. When the waitress came to greet us, she also took the time to find out more about the nature of our reunion and only then flawlessly delved into the menu. I understand this is common practice at luxury restaurants; however, I would contend that, although there are dining establishments that treat patrons similarly, it is not simply about what you do but, rather, how well you do it. And this is the reason I am taking the time to write this review: JOEY does it very well. Having frequented several luxury restaurants in downtown Toronto I can anecdotally share with you that there have been far too many occasions when the host and/or server left a poor impression. Whether it is conceited complacency in their brand or even our own bigotry of unrealistic expectations, there seldom is a meeting point of both food, service, and overall impression. The treatment at JOEY was so genuine that it left an indelible impression. Each interaction with the server and hostess throughout complemented our dining experience. We were then surprised with dessert on the house presented on an expansive serving plate with the words “Happy Reunion!” written in caramel. Delicious, delicious caramel. Mmmm, but I digress… Over the years I have written to restaurants far more complaints than compliments and, in retrospect, this is unfair. It takes a team and a culture to create this magic and it can be quite challenging to get it right. When it comes together as well as it did on our visit, it is the sort of joy that can accompany you throughout your day. At JOEY they seem to have captured the right formula and I look forward to returning and catching up with “good friends” that understand that going out to eat today is about so much more.“

“My favorite dinner we had in Toronto goes to Antler. Nothing but exceptional food and service. We did the Chef's table, which literally and 2 seats on the kitchen window. Great experience! The Duck A L'Orange was one of the best cocktails we've ever had! Food was all served personally by the Sous Chef and it was great talking with him about the dishes. Menu consisted of Smoked Swordfish Carpaccio, Mushroom Bolognese (amazing), BC Halibut, perfect Duck Breast with their BBQ sauce and smoked potato salad, Cedar infused ice intermezzo (great story there), Venison rack and sticky toffee pudding. Everything was amazing. Take note the Chef's table can change day to day though some of their staple dishes are there for sure. Cheers to Antler!“

“Came in for dinner with a friend. Overall, the tasting menu was great and we highly recommend the experience (7 dishes), we were impressed with multiple dishes and the pacing was good (~3 hours). Will definitely be back!

Food ~
So much good aesthetic food, everything was cooked on point, ingredients were both high quality and fresh. Particularly loved the lobster, snow crab, striped bass, duck, cheese & crackers, and tres leches cake dishes. Also found it interesting that before your main dish (duck) you are given a light dessert as a palette cleanser, which was refreshing indeed with great flavour (strawberry jelly, raspberry icecream with an intricate lime biscuit like topper).

Drinks ~
We also added on the mocktail pairing which came with 5 drinks to accompany 5 dishes. Mostly unique blends that leaned on the sour side where 3/5 mocktails were particularly enjoyable. However, I do recommend skipping the mocktail pairing and ordering drinks directly.

Extra notes on standout combos...
Aged roasted duck: I love duck and was most excited for this dish. They did not let me down, the duck was made super tender and flavourful you can really taste the earnest intention and time used to prepare it just right. The mushroom, paired sauces, and bread (super fluffy and comes with a butter elevated with fermented agave) were amazing together; the mocktail pairing for this was also perfect - made with sour cherry and apple cider kombucha - it tasted like a great red wine alternative and really completed the dish.
Lobster - served with flan at the bottom and a few fresh peas with foam on top.. super creamy with soft textures yet sharply distinct flavours that complemented each other perfectly and were simply delicious together.
Snow crab - crab served with a tangy twist and spaghetti squash, very good flavour combination that didn't taste complicated but yummy nonetheless.. the kind of dish that inspires me to attempt to make something similar at home!
Cheese & crackers: sweet rye crackers with a mousse cheese and quince jelly filling. This flavour combination was unexpectedly superb, hitting a good balance between sweet and savoury through a melody of smokey, fruity, and creamy flavours.

Vibes ~
Ambiance is cozy and warm toned, I will add that I found it slightly chilly so if you get cold easily take note. We sat at the chef's table/beside the kitchen, and were hoping to get a better view of the chefs preparing food, however it wasn't worth it as 1) we really couldn't see much as the counter was too high and blocked most of our view, 2) this front space was tighter than the main dining area 3) we were right beside the bathroom and 4) cost is the same as sitting in the main area. Just a heads up, aim to sit in the main dining area if you can! Bathroom is nice with 2 non-gendered single rooms, they also provide clean towels for drying your hands.

Staff ~
They were so friendly, explained the menu well as dishes came out. Also knowing that we were having a goodbye dinner to mark the occasion of my friend moving far away, the team signed off on a bon voyage card for her, which was a very sweet momento.

Recommendations ~
Please add more mocktail creations to your drinks menu! Also, it's always fun to get a copy of the tasting menu as a printout at the end, we were only given 1 for our table of 2 - it would be nice if everyone got their own. I also love the shoutout on the menu to the farms/places they source ingredients from.“

“We visited Toronto and reserved an evening table at The Chef's House realizing that it would be an experiment and a novelty. Our actual experience was wholly positive. The food was outstanding, the service impeccable and the ambience extremely attractive. While the key restaurant positions clearly appear to be supervised by professionals (faculty) it was refreshing to see students in internships learning the art and skill of hospitality. This was a welcome departure from the common "server wanting to be artist/actor/musician" approach found in the United States. The menu appears to follow the rule of keeping the choices limited. This assures that each meal can be freshly prepared to a high standard. There are a handful of starters, six main courses, and a few dessert choices. The menu changes only twice a year. Besides the superb dining experience, rivalling any top of the line commercial restaurant, the food and drinks are priced very reasonably. Who wouldn't enjoy a great meal in a wonderful place surrounded by enthusiastic young professionals at a significant discount? We were so thrilled we came back the next day for lunch to sample the rest of the menu. I would recommend this place to anyone seeking a great but somewhat unusual dining experience.“

After reading some of the other comments in the question section, we called to confirm the extent to which they are wheelchair accessible. Utterly disappointed to find out that although they have a ramp, the only accessible dining areas are if you're with one of the large groups. Meaning that as an individual with accessibility needs, I was excluded from dining at this restaurant. My accessibility needs are temporary, however you can guarantee I won't be dining at this restaurant even when I'm able to walk again, until they rectify this situation. Inexcusable to exclude people with mobility needs in this day and age.“

“A very cosy uptown restaurant ! I have been several times over the years and it never disappoints. Was there again last night and have to say the veal scallopini was excellent. “Stopped by for an early dinner earlier this week and the tasting menu still has me thinking about the trout roe course, silky and briny in a way I haven't had elsewhere in the city. The dining room has this understated, almost farmhouse warmth to it, exposed brick and low light that makes a solo counter seat feel just as good as a table for four. Our server clearly knew the wine list cold and steered us toward a natural red that matched the richer courses without me having to ask twice. Street parking near Ossington was tight around 6pm but the walk gave me time to work up an appetite, and honestly the meal was worth circling the block for.“
