“Hands down, one of the finest craft breweries in North America. I have been a fan since they started their degree program in 2010. It has been a pleasure to follow their graduates as they move to prominent breweries in Canada and beyond. They have a permanent lineup of core beers that represent major lagers and ales from around the world. My favourite is their Strong Ale 101, a classic Scotch Ale. Most interesting to me are the small batch beers brewed by the students. The creativity and quality are extraordinary. A recent roster included 2 German Kolsch variants, a peach ale, a stylized Belgian Brown ale and a German Dunkelweizen. In the past, students released English spiced winter ales and the best Hefeweizen brewed outside Germany that I have ever tasted. Their Growler Club is a bargain. For the past 5 years or so, I convinced my family to spring for a membership to celebrate my birthday and Fathers Day. Free seminars, discounted merch, free tastings and 1 complimentary growler fill per month! Plus a free excuse to visit once a month to sample the exclusive Growler Club brew. They are currently shut down because of the Pandemic, but I encourage beer afficionados in Ontario to sample their wares by placing a phone order. Shipping is free or nominal in Ontario. Just to show my continued support, I actually made the 2+ hour round trip yesterday to pick up a case of assorted beers. Their seminars have transitioned to a Zoom based format. You can even sample along with the speaker by ordering the target beers for each session. Moderated by master brewers on staff, they are well worth attending.“

“We had a lovely date dinner in this quaint, modern, family-friendly brewery. They were nearly fully reserved; unfortunately, the tables available were not appropriate. When I pointed out I could not sit in the sun or at a high top, they willingly made adjustments. Our hostess, waitress, bussers, and management were all attentive, kind, and generally lovely. The food was wonderful; from the appetizers we enjoyed were Warm Butter Pretzel - BRUSHED WITH BUTTER AND SALTED, PICKLES, GRAINY MUSTARD, HOUSE-BREWED BEER AND CHEESE QUESO SAUCE, and Lobster Dip - LOBSTER MEAT IN A CREAMY DIP, BUBBLY MOZZARELLA WITH WARM PITA. Our mains were Burgers and fries - CLASSIC – CHEDDAR, LETTUCE, ONION, PICKLE, GARLIC MAYO, as well as the Steak and frites - 10 OZ NY STRIPLOIN, COMPOUND BUTTER, GREMOLATA, SERVED WITH HOUSE-CUT FRIES. Dessert we tried Fruit Cobbler with Ice Cream - FRESH SEASONAL FRUIT TOPPED WITH LIGHT AND CRISPY COBBLER, SERVED WITH LEMON WHIPPED CREAM, and Crème Brûlée - SILKY CUSTARD BOTTOM, SWEET CRUNCHY TOP. The meal was delicious. An excellent experience; my only tweak is I wish the fries had been fresher. The Bridgewater Brewery had such a great environment. Well worth the trip to Welland. We were also informed they had a dog-friendly patio at the rear, making this a must for a return visit for our family. The kitchens were impeccable. Bathroom was ADODA compliant. “We recently hosted our wedding reception at Cold Break, and we couldn’t be happier with the experience. From start to finish, Sophie, our coordinator, was absolutely amazing! So easy to work with, incredibly organized, and always quick to answer questions or put our minds at ease. She made the whole planning process seamless.

The food was a huge highlight of the night. We had a mix of apps (buffet style), mains with table service (perfectly cooked steak, salmon, and vegan options), and late-night snacks (sliders, pizza, and more). The kitchen did an outstanding job, and front of house delivered amazing service. Every single guest commented on how delicious everything was, the quality and speed of service were top-notch. For a brewery with a casual vibe, the menu exceeded expectations and truly elevated the evening.

Of course, the beer was fantastic, and the seltzers were a big hit with our crowd too.

On top of that, the Cold Break team handled setup and cleanup beautifully, which gave us more time to actually enjoy our big day instead of worrying about details.

We’re so grateful to Sophie and the entire team for making our wedding reception everything we hoped for and more. We would absolutely recommend Cold Break to anyone looking for an event venue that’s fun, flexible, and delivers an unforgettable experience.“
