“Lovely restaurant with great food and good customer service. We were seated in the patio which was very nice and had air conditioning. Food came out piping hot and was tasty. Staff regularly checked in on us which was great.
Only criticism was that we found a bug in the vinegar. Once pointed out to staff, it was addressed promptly, but still dampened our experience.“

“We recommend it absolutely! My partner and I both had the Haddock fish and chips. We were looking for gluten-free options near the music hall and we found this little gem. She said the fish and chips were some of the best she’s had, not even accounting for the gluten free aspect! We would definitely come here again 100%.“

“Had our anniversary dinner there on a Saturday night. We both ordered the halibut and fries with coleslaw on the side. The fish was Lightly battered and crispy. The fries were nicely done and not too oily. It went well with the homemade tartar sauce. It was very quiet with only another couple have dinner. The restaurant has not changed and is still run by the same family. We will definitely come back.“

“Haven’t had fish & chips in a long time and the folks at this shop satisfied my cravings. Found in a small, unassuming plaza, this family-owned business is slinging out perfectly fried fish and spuds.
The folks who run this establishment are very welcoming and make you feel at home. The atmosphere here is nostalgic. It feels like I’m in my family’s kitchen from my childhood.
I ordered the halibut and chips for myself, got cod and chips for my brother, and we shared a calamari and gravy. Food was pretty good. Fish tasted buttery and delicate. Batter was thin, crispy, and flavourful. NOT overly greasy, major news! Loved the thick cut fries. The gravy really took them to the next level. Portion sizes are pretty big and these prices are insanely reasonable!
I highly recommend McCowan Fish & Chips; support small businesses! One if my favourite spots in Scarbs now. I will be back!“

“Had a wonderful birthday dinner here. We splits 4 apps, 1 side, tacos & 1 main and everything was an “order again”. The staff was very attentive and helpful selecting from the menu. I would recommend stopping in for drinks & an app or a full meal.“

“I come here for the poutine! I’ve been coming here since I was 14 yrs - 2014 - the flavour not the taste has changed - hands down the BESTTTT poutine in all of GTA in my opinion!! EVERYTIME I bring a new friend or family here, the poutine gets 100/100 EVERYTIME!!

I used to visit thru the years whenever I was nearby my father and friends always loved the food and friendly atmosphere.
Highly recommend, I now live 2 hrs North and honestly can say still the best Halibut and chips in the province.

“Oh my goodness!! If I could give more stars I would. The Haddock was absolutely delicious! It was so fresh and piping hot. The fish was cooked perfectly. The French fries were also piping hot. The gravy was good. It would have been nice to serve such delicious fish with homemade Tatar Sauce but it was not. Just packets. I think my head would have blown off had it been homemade. That’s how delicious it was. Regardless of packaged Tatar Sauce, it was still over the top- good to eat.“

They also serve breakfast till 2pm daily! The breakfast is delicious and the price is unbelievable good. Must try.

“This was my second visit to Gil’s Fish & Chipperie at the Eaton Centre. I came on Thursday afternoon at 3.30pm. I ordered the half portion of fish and chips, and once again it didn’t disappoint.
The fish was crispy outside and flaky inside, with hot, well-seasoned fries — a satisfying portion that felt just right. I also want to give a shout-out to the cashier girl, who was friendly and welcoming, making the quick stop even more pleasant.
A solid, reliable option when you want comforting food and good service in a busy food-hall setting.“

“Was there on Saturday for lunch. I got the cod and it didn’t disappoint. The fish and the batter were flavorful and the fish was moist. The batter felt very light and not greasy. I usually take the halibut (which is always great) but this time I decided to go with the cod. It was a very nice compromise for quality/price. The fries were excellent. Although there is no table service, the staff was extremely friendly in our interactions.
I’ve been going for years and I will continue going there. I highly recommend it.
Just be aware that there is only outside seating and the space is limited.“

“I've been going to another popular leaside fish and chips place, but they could never accommodate my family's diets (pescatarian) as they fried using tallow and with meat. I couldn't believe I found a place that was pescatarian friendly, had a larger menu, and tasted better. Service was great! Just ask for no salt on the chips“
