“The food was good. The beef tartar was amazing, as expected. We love how they roasted the bread with butter; it's crispy and flavourful. The sausage was different than we expected but in a good way. I like how they did the potato; it was soft but crunchy. The portion was okay. Two main dishes were good enough for the two of us for brunch.
The restaurant is small, so you might expect to wait 15-45 minutes.
The only minus point is that our server didn’t seem very friendly and attentive. He made us feel like we did something wrong when we asked for recommendations.“

“Im not sure where to start on this review.

Well to say the least, it took me about 2 weeks to decide on a place to eat. My decision did not let me down. I chose this place because of the connection the Chef had to the food.

Ive traveled all around and have been to many fine restaurants and places to eat. To compare this restaurant to others, well you cannot.

If you have ever been to Montana or Wyoming, you know that you cannot describe the views. The art you get at Lucies, is comparable to the views you see. You cannot put it into words.

The service itself was as you would expect, amazing. The staff is knowledgeable about every dish that is presented to you.

What the chef, the staff, and the amazing mixologist does for you; is to say the least an art within itself.

Now I am not very good at taking pictures, but pictures would not do the dishes or drink justice anyway. For some reason google would not let me post pictures.“

“Went to Gloria last night as a walk-in and have to say this is Toronto's best new restaurant by far.
It was a busy Friday so we put our name down for a seat at the bar. Went across the street for a drink and within 20 min we got a text saying there was space. Ended up getting one of the best seats in the house at a cocktail table and the service was amazing.
We had the escargot which is a MUST, onion rings, mussels and fries along with the steak frites and everything was a 10/10.
Cocktails were amazing as well.
I commented that the restaurant doesn't even feel like Toronto - felt like we were in London or a hot spot in Europe. And best of all, the prices were actually reasonable.
A must visit and truely an experience we'll return for again and again.“

“Got a table as a walk-in on a Friday night! We were seated at a high table at first, but my friend has back issues. The first server didn’t really try to help us when we asked to move, but another one was so nice and arranged it for us. We had the steak frites, Milou burger, and the panisse salad. The steak was good, I loved the flavor and the sauces that came with it. My friend and I didn’t even realize our cocktails were mixed up until we were halfway through. It wasn’t the best experience in terms of service, but I’m willing to give it another try.“

Le Parisien - Not your typical brunch experience, L'avenue offers an elevated experience that you can taste through the quality of its ingredients. What separates it the most are its artisanal English muffins, which are fluffy, airy, eggy and buttery all at the same time, toasted for a subtle char. The smoked salmon easily falls apart in your mouth, with a smoky umaminess complimented by the rich hollandaise sauce and runny egg yolks. Naturally, a brunch isn't complete without fresh fruit, a detail they wouldn't miss.“

“DREAM WEDDING REVIEW! (Long overdue) A million stars! (buckle up, it's a long one)

Thank you Maison Selby! We got married here well over a year ago (so sorry for the slow review, we each thought the other had posted one! OOPS!) With zero caveats, Maison Selby was truly our dream venue and every single one of the staff made our wedding an absolutely perfect event from start to finish.

To start off with, the place is gorgeous (I would live there). It was the exact moody victorian vibe I wanted which required minimal decoration on our part other than flowers, an arch, and some small details. We booked out the whole place, and the staff were so incredible with helping to accommodate a seating plan for our guest list of 48 (plus the two of us), and also allowed for more guests to come after dinner for drinks and dancing, which let us have the perfectly sized event. Intimate but fun for dinner, and a blast for the party! The staff were SO helpful getting this planned out and accommodating all my requests to move things around for the perfect layout and decor set up.

Then, THE FOOD! My god the food! Chef Martin and his team are geniuses. To start, the menu choices are an embarrassment of riches, you'll be able to find some incredible choices. The tasting was beautifully organized and they were so lovely. I have a LOT of food intolerance and Chef Martin was unbelievably kind, understanding, and patient, and was adamant that I would have something special for each course of our wedding dinner, even if it was tweaked just for me, and we were so grateful for that. The food on the day was everything we hoped for and more, and the portions were so large, we had to combat being too full to dance, but no one wanted to stop eating, it was so good LOL. The bar staff also helped so much with decisions about drinks and wine choices, and even mocktails, and were super fun and engaging with guests on the day. And the wait staff were just IMPECCABLE, truly going out of their way again and again to make the day special and our guests well taken care of, including bringing my elderly disabled aunt to the bathroom in her wheelchair in their elevator, and helping us clean and tidy up at the end of the night. Honestly, despite lots of requests and planning details, they never made me feel like a burden, and the staff all just seemed to just want us to have the wedding of our dreams.

Honestly, I can't count the number of friends and family, even to this day, who mention again and again how amazing the food and service were at our wedding. It was some of the best we've ever had. Our loved ones still say that it was the best wedding they've been to, and I know that was because of how great Maison Selby was in so many ways.

Finally, the upside of mistakenly taking so long to post this review is that we've actually had our anniversary since then, and went back to Maison Selby to celebrate in our special place. The staff were just so lovely about it, greeting us with a sweet card and champagne, and staff quietly popped over to say how much they enjoyed our wedding and wishing us well (and that was a year later!). It just made us feel really special, and taken care of, and like this was really our special spot.

All that to say, if you're considering a wedding, please consider Maison Selby. I honestly can't even come up with one negative, and they were incredible well beyond our expectations. (And reasonably priced to for all that!)

A special shout out to Devon, Stephanie, Angela, and Chef Martin for everything you did to make our wedding (and anniversary!) so incredible. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts, and we'll see you soon for our second anniversary! Again, excuse the absurdly slow review lol.“

“Delicious French pastries and brunch. I had the benny with smoked salmon and it was great, the eggs were perfectly runny and the croissant was flaky and buttery. Their salad comes with their own home made dressing which is also very yummy. I highly recommend trying their pastries and tarts as well, taking a couple home, they are so good! It’s worth the wait for a table.“

“I've never had French pastry and was glad that we walked by and decided to give it a try. 👌 Light and fluffy, absolutely delicious. Definitely a must have. I should have purchased 2. I can't wait to drop off more orders nearby. And real French accents too, amazing. I truly felt as if I was in a bakery shop in France 🇫🇷.
The two mademoiselle were pleasantly delightful. Merci beaucoup 😊“

“A gem in the middle of Yorkville, quiet enough to have a conversation - and the most delicious kale salad I've ever tasted. Reasonable prices, especially for the area. My friend found the crepes delicious, too. Excellent cappuccino! We will definitely return.“

“Really just wanted to try the plain croissant, and it was reasonably priced at sub-$4. Unfortunately it's not winning any awards in a hurry. Flaky on the outside, soft on the inside, but it lacks the butteriness of a superior croissant. The dough reminded me more of bread than laminated pastry. Staff were very pleasant, lots of seating inside, overall a decent spot. Just maybe try something other than a plain croissant 🙂“
