“Anyone can seemingly make sushi seem better by making it more complex, but the real test is whether they can take the simple and make it excellent. Sushi-Ki-ichi does just that. They stick to the simple offerings, leading to an experience that feels less Americanized than other Japanese restaurants. That's because the family that owns Sushi Ki-ichi wants to create an authentic meal - a notion that was confirmed for sure when we had a conversation with the owner. In fact, they take quality to the next level with their equipment and efforts they take to make sure that what they serve is the highest quality, including specific freezers for the fish. We didn't try Sushi Ki-ichi for the first couple of years because we figured that the previous restaurant, a Chinese buffet that had gone downhill and fallen off the cliff, had rebranded and reopened as something new. Now I feel that for those first couple of years, we missed out. This has quickly become my favorite place in Portland. I look forward to any trips I take across town from Vancouver to Tigard, and make a point to stop in and grab a bite.“

“This is my FAVORITE food in Portland. I am vegan and their soyrizo tacos are by far the best I’ve ever had. Every time I try other tacos, I’m sorely disappointed because they aren’t Betos tacos. They load them up beautifully and are filling, flavorful, and just absolutely delicious, not to mention they’re fairly priced. I went to a different local taco truck and spent $14 on 3 tacos that barely had any vegetables in them and no gauc or soyrizo. Seriously. “This place was phenomenal! Very fresh, delicious quality ingredients. I got a make your own bowl, portions are pretty large. When I came in for a pick up order the cashier/team member was welcoming and kind. He ended up offering me a cup of the miso soup! It was a fantastic addition to my bowl. “I've always had decent food here at Bannings. This morning I ordered Pumpkin pancakes.....what a disappointment. The pumpkin batter needed salt added to it and it also could have used a bit more sugar in the batter. The syrup was not real maple syrup but table top ad says, "warm maple syrup," so I expected real maple syrup. It also says, "whipped butter." I asked the waiter about the maple syrup and he told me it was "artificial" maple and argued the fact that the restaurant never said "real" maple syrup. Maybe the butter is whipped margarine...who knows what liberties are taken in menu descriptions. I'm a "real" maple syrup customer.“
