When I peered in the window and saw 3 elder (and let me say, spiffy!) gay couples having breakfast here I knew it was gonna be good. Self service coffee while we waited for the table was clutch. “Are you kidding me!! The variety by itself is insane! At least four different types of fritters three different types of twists. I can’t even count the maple bars and other variety of donuts. Donut King initially a little apprehensive, but the second you walk into the store you realize yeah this is definitely the king of donuts. At least 30 different varieties of donut. And the fact they are all Displayed in a showcase right in front for the see!!
Are you vegan? Are you gluten-free as my partner happens to be? They have donuts for both and last I checked this is the only donut place in town that has gluten-free donuts and vegan donuts within the west side..

I had an amazing experience at Nossa Familia Coffee today. Tara, Aiyana, and Danny (the store manager) were absolutely wonderful. Their kindness and warmth made a real difference. When they overheard a bit of what I was going through, they went above and beyond and offered me the most incredible chai latte with oat milk — and honestly, it was one of the best I’ve ever had.

The atmosphere here is welcoming, the staff genuinely care, and the customer service is top-tier. Encounters like this remind me how powerful compassion can be.

Rosa is the resident mascot and she is adorable. This is the place you want to get your morning coffee and breakfast.

My friend and I had a rough morning and she really turned it around for us with her awesome personality and smiles. “Went in this morning and ordered a coffee. The order was taking a bit, so I went up to check, thinking maybe it'd gotten dropped. Everyone's busy, stuff happens, I get it. There was an employee mopping the area and he said it'd be a minute. Then I realized it wasn't routine mopping but a cleanup situation. I apologized to him and said I didn't realize what had happened. He said "I'm John, the owner. We have a rule here that when an employee spills something, somebody else cleans it up. They're stressed out enough." Let me spell that out...the owner was wielding a mop to ease the mental load on one of his employees. Now I want to get a job there just to learn how to be a better person. Stay classy, John, you're doing it more than right.“

“Some of the best soup I have ever tasted! This is an extremely clean family operated business. The people are great and the soup is homemade, not warmed up canned or frozen commercially produced stuff. Well worth stopping by if you need to take the tram up the hill.“

“I am staying at a nearby hotel while my husband has surgery at OHSU Hospital. I needed an inexpensive coffee and lunch place that I could walk to easily during a heat wave here in Portland. A quick Google search yielded this little deli that is part of Portland State University. I had one of the lunch specials which was a turkey, bacon, avocado sandwich on a croissant. It came with chips and was reasonably priced. I also got an iced soy white mocha (which is in an insulating sleeve I have). Everything was just over $15.00 and was fresh and delicious. The espresso drink was strong (much needed) and not too sweet. As I was leaving, four Portland State University maintenance employees (per their shirts) came in and seemed like regulars . They have a variety of sandwiches including all-day breakfast ones. I might have to go back tomorrow morning.“

We had a mix of ages and everyone found something to their liking on their menu. The food is fresh, delicious and huge servings. I had the Kahlúa pork with mac salad and white rice. “Excellent teas. Steven Smith is a renowned Master Teamaker. Remember Stash Tea and Tazo Tea? He was responsible for those. I highly recommend any of the teas. You will not be disapointed.“

“We were a little intimidated by the wait, but the dessert was worth it! The mocha fudge cake was delightfully decadent, although the ginger cake was the real star. The decorations and piano music lent a lot to the atmosphere, and we got speedy service. Unfortunately, it was simply too hot to be comfortable, especially while drinking hot beverages. It felt stuffy and sweltering even after I shed down to my t-shirt. My mom ended up stepping outside to wait for me because she felt like she was going to faint. I feel like this place caters to very young people who may not be as sensitive to heat. (The ridiculous part is it wasn’t even cold outside, right around 60 degrees.) If it had been a more reasonable temperature inside, it would have been a 5 star experience.“

I would want to try the dangos next and hope they have the Uji Matcha kakigori next time. We ordered Berry Hojicha and Berry Matcha kakigoris. While we were there on Saturday lunch time, there was always a line. Most people looked like they were getting a drink and walking out with it. Half of the people had trouble going out as the door was tricky to open out lol. You have to push the button down while pushing the door out haha. Only street parking available.“
