“Tonight was our first night trying Portabello’s. We had an excellent dinner! My wife had the chicken parmigiana and I had the stroganoff. We shared the chocolate decadence cake for dessert. Had an excellent server named Erica. We will be back.“

“Administrative details - While you usually must make a reservation a year in advance (which I did), there are a very few earlier spots available on their website. In addition, if you are on the email list, they send the occasional last-minute availability. Talula’s is BYOB. The price was $125 and with all the other things, taxes, gratuities, it came to $160. The Nook Table is available for 6-8 diners and the Farm Table is for larger parties. Website link is below. Everything is presented in “tasting” small portions. In addition to the menu, they provided a couple of additional offerings. I did not do a good job of capturing the delightful descriptions of the food provided by our server. (The next time I go, I will video the descriptions if they allow.) The group did a great job of bringing wine which was beautifully poured in appropriate glassware by our server. The server also paired the wine with the offerings for us! The service was exceptional without being pretentious. After each tasting, plates, utensils and glasses were cleared and refurbished so discreetly that you hardly noticed. The menu changes with the “farm to table” availability. My favorite was a squash tarte. [I was delighted to find that I did not like the foie gras. It is “made” in a most inhumane and horrible way. This is the only time I have eaten it and I will never eat it again.] I was sorry to find that by the Black Garlic Beef Ribeye (#6 on the list), I was getting to the point of “too much food.” The only downsides were “too much food” for most of us and the wines they suggested for the pairings were hard/impossible to find. I personally did not like the varieties of wines they suggested for pairings. The rest of the party enjoyed the comparable wines they were able to find and allowed the server to pair with the tastings. I will be making a reservation for next year very soon. I have already made a reservation for the “sister” Talula’s Garden in Philly for September.“

“Dinner was excellent. Ordered lots on the menu and each was outstanding. The skate melted in your mouth. Tasted like chicken. Lamb carpaccio, pork steak, rainbow trout, ravioli, funghetti. Well worth it.“

“The manager was extremely kind and helpful. We arrived very late and the kitchen was closed but he offered us a few pizza options and we were more than grateful!! Pizza was delicious and the wait staff was very friendly and attentive. We can’t wait to go back and try the rest of the menu and really appreciate how customer friendly everyone was.“

“We worked with BierHaul - TownHouse for the afterparty following our wedding, and it was such an incredible experience! Mike was responsive and friendly and very much not fussed (which was nice because I was pretty overwhelmed by the point in the planning where we reached out). They set aside the tables upstairs for us, and set out a bunch of food we'd selected to be ready when everyone showed up! It was such an incredible spot for everyone to keep the party going but also get to talk with some other people they might not have been seated with at the wedding. I would absolutely have a party here again!“

“My wife and I have dined here several times and it has become a favorite for special dates and occasions. It is fine dining, yet affordable, not the least because of the BYOB policy (which we like). We enjoy the innovative seafood dishes prepared well, along with other offerings. It is elegant and intimate, yet informal and comfortable. Its modest size and acoustic design keeps the noise level to a pleasant buzz, avoiding a too common problem for those who actually want to have an enjoyable conversation without raising their voices. Perhaps for this reason, the clientele seems to trend older. It's not trendy, nor for the hard drinking crowd -- just consistently excellent dishes served with friendly efficiency in a pleasant atmosphere. One suggestion: the receptionist and servers could class up their dress to better fit the rest of the experience, and do better than jeans and t-shirts seen last night.“

Our server had time to explain the menu and make recommendation to our group that included a 4 year old. Why is this relevant? Because, she gave her the same respectful service as she did the adults. Thank you. Now let's get to the food. I had the Chicken Picatta. I had to take the picture because at the first bite I new it was about to be destroyed. I left nothing on the plate. The Impossible Sloppy for those who need a vegan option also got a thumbs up. The food comes out hot hot! No one complained! I will be back the next time I am in Delaware.“

“Fantastic dining experience. Prepare to be treated as a valued guest in chef’s kitchen. We graciously accepted the wine pairings in addition to the evening’s menu. Presentation of wines and all 4 courses was informative and conversational. Atmosphere is clean and unpretentious. The food is the main attraction, and all staff is focused on guests having a 5-Star experience. Our table had no special requests, so we were able to enjoy everything as presented. “we went to the restaurant this Friday night for their fish and chips special. I must say it tastes like the fish was caught today it was so fresh. not sure how it was breaded it but it was light and tasty. I think I am sold going here every Friday night. we had Jen for our waitress who was fabulous. she was so friendly and she gave us the best service. we cannot wait to go back again for this meal. we also had the Italian pear cake for dessert and once again they surprise me with a delicious dessert which I will definitely order this again. don't know how they did it but I give the chef a A plus.“

They also cut up cucumbers & onion for me to take home. The food & service is top notch. The gas station side (Liberty Gas) the service is not as friendly at all. I only shop at Liberty bc Quick Meal & their service is so good.“

“The Back Burner has a gem in Patty. The food is always dependable, and the wine list is surprisingly reasonable for some good quality wines. I think all of these things contribute to the restaurant's staying power in Hockessin.“

“I’ve always loved Columbus Inn throughout the years and highly recommend it for quality fine dining and a quaint enjoyable atmosphere. And the front deck is an amazing spot all year round.“

“Waited 40 minutes for hush puppies while the restaurant was nearly empty at 3pm. Primary food order came 5 minutes later and my son’s order was wrong. It’s a shame because the food is good. But the service has been so slow both times I’ve been here. They did comp his meal. Just expect to wait a while and enjoy your drinks. Don’t come if you’re in a hurry.“

“I would normally recommend Six Paulpers, HOWEVER, last night's service was terrible. Not sure what the problem was. We first waited for quite awhile for a waitress, so we just went to the bar to get our own drinks. The waitress shows up, we order our food, and it took quite awhile to get to us. My husband got the French dip and fries, I got the cheesesteak egg rolls. The FFs were cold, greasy and had no taste. My egg rolls were burnt. I sent the FF's back, and asked to see if the chef would like to look at the FF's! She goes OK, but the chef isn't in, just the sous chef! And that was it! 🤣We had to go to the bar for another drink. We finally saw our waitress again for us to ask for the bill! Hope this was just an off night!😬“

“Picked up ox tail and jerk chicken today. It was ready within a few minutes of me calling it in. Staff were super friendly, food was fantastic and price was very reasonable! I ordered larges and felt that the serving was very generous. Dropped off jerk chicken at my husband's job as a surprise treat for him, he loved it as well. Ox tail was so good I ate the entire large container in one sitting! Highly recommended this place and will most certainly be back!“

“Great food, great drinks, and always a good vibe. It’s one of those places you can count on for a fun night out. The staff is always friendly and everything we’ve had there has been really good.

I also want to give them a shoutout for supporting the community. I work for the Crime Victims’ Center and they generously donated food for one of our events in February and gave us gift cards to raffle at our big event in September.

“Celebrated my wife’s 73rd birthday here today. We’ve been meaning to try it for years. Today was that day and they did not disappoint. The entire visit was a pleasant surprise! And it was absolutely wonderful! Sorry we waited so long before trying it. The icing on the cake tho was our server, Aubrie. She was AMAZING! Her efficiency and warmth was overwhelming! If you come to try it out, be sure to ask for her. You won’t be disappointed. 👍👍👍“
