“Tried out the restaurant for the first time today with a friend for brunch. Had a reservation for 11:15am and we were seated almost immediately upon checking in with the host. We sat at a two-top against the wall, which was quite.. cozy to the table next to us. There was a bit of a wait before a server came over but once they approached us, they were friendly and attentive. It was very busy so we expected a bit of a wait for food/drinks. After a few minutes or so, the server was on the way over to bring our drinks and although I’m unsure of exactly the cause of what happened, I do know that one or two drinks spilled onto my from over my left shoulder onto my shirt and pants. The server was very apologetic and brought over some club soda and extra napkins. Another restaurant worker came immediately to sweep up the broken glasses. Our server did bring me out a new drink as soon as he could. The food came out quickly after. I had the crispy chicken Benedict and my friend had the classic. We agreed that the food was wonderful and well worth the price. Mistakes do happen so taking that into account, as well as the response by the server, I would give our experience a 7 or 8. Hoping to try again, minus leaving smelling like a mimosa 😂“

We did feel a bit rushed. Not only to place our order but appetizers and salads were served at the same time to our small table. We were asked multiple times if we were done with courses when we had forks in our hands. Because the food was delicious and very well prepared we’ll give it another try and hope for a better service experience.“

“Thanks for making my vigil a totally disaster! I spent $177.00 on take out consisting of eel,smelts,stuffed squid and cold calamari salad. The smelts were “burned”, the stuffed squid was tough and once again way overly seasoned and again not eatable. The eel had no taste. I have been a customer there on many occasions (special ones too. ) , however you not only lost a client but I will make sure my other professionals, many were here, not ever rely on a good meal at the Old Canteen. Consider a better chef!“

“Where do I evening begin? I was in town from Boston for a week and this was recommended by a friend so I went on my first night in town. Sat at the bar since I was alone and it was very busy, but immediately the two up stairs bartenders made me feel at home and they had a really fun dynamic between each other and their families had also worked at this amazing establishment
in the past so they really care about the place and you can tell.

After a lot of deliberation, I decided on the pappardelle with Venetian sauce and chicken meatballs. I asked them what Venetian sauce was and they took out a cookbook, written by the owners (RISD grads, so cool), and showed me the actual recipe. Genuinely one of the best dining experiences in a minute and that Venetian sauce was SO GOOD as were the moist and flavorful chicken meatballs.

I had their ultra local dessert special, the Concord grape granita made with grapes from their patio and it was superb.

PS: they sell Diet Coke in glass bottles which IYKYK is the best Diet Coke known to man and was a great sign from the start it was going to be a stellar dining journey. Can’t wait to come back.“

Parking: Parking is good until it gets really busy then it's hard to find a place. I would suggest you would call and make reservations“

“My husband and I went for the first time on Saturday and sat at the bar. We ordered apps and cocktails and of course oysters. Best oysters in RI by far believe it or not. Drinks were ok but food fabulous! Would have given 5 stars if not for the bartender. She focused solely on my husband the entire time even gave him a free drink. It was very obvious and blatant disrespect to me. My husband even commented on feeling uncomfortable. As a former bartender the general rule is to pay more attention to the wife than the husband out of respect but also because most often the wife is writing the tip. We will for sure be going back but will sit at a table and maybe only order sparkling water.“

“In Full Transparency, this review would be 3.5 stars if I had that option, but that's by no means a dig on this nice little spot to get some good local food at great prices.

Came here before a concert at XFinity based on Yelp reviews. Provalone's is a very unpretentious little spot with a big menu, great prices and friendly service. Also, surprisingly fresh, quality and tasty food for what you might expect from the outside. Definitely a book that can't be judged by its cover.

This is primarily a takeout spot and catering service. While we were sitting and enjoying our dinner they were loading up a large catering order for a customer and several people came and left with good sized orders. Clearly the locals enjoy it here.

I went with the chicken parm sandwich. I expected a fried, formerly frozen patty and mediocre sauce Inna roll. What I got (for a very reasonable price) was real chicken breast, clearly hand breaded and fried, with a chunky, fresh, tasty sauce that ended up being a bit watery when put up against the cold provolone in the roll and made everything a bit uncomfortably soggy and messy. This may have been alleviated by baking the sandwich a bit before serving.

Sandwiches come in one size here, which is a 12-in grinder.

I would have ordered a slice as well, but the pizza in the case seemed to be pretty old and needed a refresh to be appealing.

There is a very large menu, including pasta platters that include penne, ravioli or tortellini with meatballs, real veal or chicken. That's unusual for a takeout place with just a couple of tables. But it was among the many very pleasant surprises here.

Good food, great prices and friendly service at a nice local spot with great menu variety. If you're nearby, I would definitely recommend giving Provolone's a try.“
