“Bon Vue was one of our “go to” bars for a couple beers and food, but disappointed recently at being charged $9 for a whalers rise draft on a Thursday afternoon, off season. For a dive bar, that’s excessive.“

My friends and I randomly discovered it and were some of his first regulars, and we kept the lights on and helped him out through the winter. “Super nice staff, yummy food, on a deck by the sea. What more can you ask for? Well, for me, I could ask for a vegetarian entre. I chose this restaurant based on an old menu that showed eggplant parmesan. But that was last year’s menu. This year there are none. BUT the cook whipped up pasta primavera for me on request. We had fried pickles, coconut shrimp, beet and arugula salad, the pasta primavera, and a couple of cocktails. All were nicely prepared and delicious. I’ll add photos of the updated menu.“

“Went with my son last week for the first time and had the muscles and chicken wings, both of which were incredible. We brought home the mac and cheese, dumplings and seasonal bread pudding. Everything was fantastic. we agreed it is the best restaurant around. I went again tonight with my husband. We had the friend oyster appetizer special and filet, both of which were incredible. Debbie was our waitress, and she was absolutely fantastic. So friendly, attentive and knowledgeable. Highly recommend!“

“We were vacationing in Newport from Wisconsin and stopped in at Cappy’s. Sue the bartender was friendly and a wonderful bartender. The owner Joe, what can I say….what a guy! Joe saw us walking to our Airbnb and yelled at us on the street asking when we were headed back home. Joe is a gem of a bartender. He has a gift of gab and can hand out the bs too. Nice local establishment with friendly customers and bartenders. We had Dan as a bartender too and he was a friendly, great guy! “Places like this are a real treasure. No pretenses -- just a great vibe, excellent drinks, and a bar man Joe who has found his calling in hospitality. We attended a vow renewal for family and Joe takes it very seriously with the highest intentions and kindness. This place has legit charm.“

“After reading these comments, I just had to chime in.

First off, if you are a sailor, this is your home away from home. You’ll meet other sailors with fantastic stories.

Secondly, if you are not use to the ball busting style of a RI bar tender, don’t come here. You won’t understand. (Hence the reviews from “out of towners.”). But, if you have a backbone and a respectful, yet smart mouth, you will be right at home.

“Come across this joint some years back. Honestly the best spot in Newport for seafood and drinks. Actually everything they cook is amazing. Raw bar is great as well. If you find yourself in the area and don't stop in....you suck. Seriously best spot in Newport“

“Came across this pub after looking at many menus along Thames St. This one looked most appealing to us. Definitely a great cozy pub with some authentic touches and great pints on draft. Started off with boxty as an appetizer which were delicious. Entrees were impossible burger and busker burger both great and flame grilled. Now for the pints a huge selection including my favorite Guinness, but one I’ve been searching for on tap is O’Hara’s, and the search is over. Great pour and great fusion Blacksmith. Stop in you won’t regret it!“

“If you are looking for good bbq you should not overlook this place.

Prices are very reasonable the food is above average and even though it is hard to tell from the outside it has great atmosphere. Live music and nice outside area. With a huge fire pit.

Eaten here numerous times and never had a bad meal.
