“We were vacationing in Newport from Wisconsin and stopped in at Cappy’s. Sue the bartender was friendly and a wonderful bartender. The owner Joe, what can I say….what a guy! Joe saw us walking to our Airbnb and yelled at us on the street asking when we were headed back home. Joe is a gem of a bartender. He has a gift of gab and can hand out the bs too. Nice local establishment with friendly customers and bartenders. We had Dan as a bartender too and he was a friendly, great guy! “Came here for Mother’s Day and our table came complete with a picture of my family in a frame. What a nice touch! The food was delicious and our waitress was perfect. She knew exactly what we were going to need having two kids under 4 with us. This is my favorite place in Newport and they hit the mark yet again.“

“My coworkers suggested Buskers for our Friday wind-down and I was kind of skeptical, not really an Irish pub person. But I was converted fast. We got there around 6, grabbed a booth near the corner, and within an hour a live band was going. The Guinness was poured perfectly, slow and all that. We tried the Irish stew too and it was thick and hearty, exactly what you want on a cool fall evening. Super chill vibe, never felt rushed. Already planning to bring my wife next time.“

First off, if you are a sailor, this is your home away from home. You’ll meet other sailors with fantastic stories.

Secondly, if you are not use to the ball busting style of a RI bar tender, don’t come here. You won’t understand. (Hence the reviews from “out of towners.”). But, if you have a backbone and a respectful, yet smart mouth, you will be right at home.

“Felt like the previous reviews misled us. We were in Newport for a short getaway and went here one night for dinner and I was shocked at the atmosphere. Plastic tables and chairs was not what I was looking for. We ended up staying and they were very nice but the place was totally empty. It's a bar that serves food not really a restaurant at least we didn't see any indoor seating or maybe I missed it. If you are looking for something uber casual this is your spot.“

I absolutely loved visiting Clark Cooke House last Christmas! We sat inside, and even though we weren’t outdoors, the atmosphere was extremely cozy, cute, and inviting. The ambiance was so lovely, making the entire experience feel warm and special.

I had the lobster, and I absolutely loved it. It tasted so delicious and was one of the highlights of the meal. For dessert, I had their well-known signature Snowball dessert, which was the best dessert ever! It was the perfect way to end such a wonderful meal.

“When I was a child in the late 50's and early 60's my Grandmother wold take us to lunch at Christie's. In her understated words: A fine Newport restaurant" Forty years later I went back and was very disappointed. It was dingy, run down, smelled sort of rancid and the food was just plain lousy. So I didn't go back till very recently. What a pleasant surprise. All redecorated and lightened up, all new menu, new owners and a real pleasure to see one of Newport's original wharf area eateries resurrected. I had, as always a cup of clam chowder to start, and glory hallelujah, it had lots of clams in it. (Yes, I once did get a bowl of clam chowder with no clams in it in Newport several years ago.) The chowder was followed by grilled swordfish cooked correctly (Just Garlic Butter, salt, pepper and NOTHING ELSE) which was delicious. So Christie's is back and better than ever. It's a little further down Thames Street, but oh so worth it once again.“

“Visited Officers' Club as possible wedding venue and stayed for drinks at outdoor bar. The water view is lovely and there is ample space at outdoor bar to relax. The drink offerings were good and prices not extravagant. The bartender and wait staff were very friendly and helpful, letting us sample the wine that would be offered with wedding package. There is a stage where there is live music but no bands were performing at our visit. Umbrellas help keep the sun at bay when at outdoor bar, but block the views from one side of the restaurant for functions.“

“Being a local for 4 years now and never been here, as it being one of the last Reastrunt’s in Newport for me to try, I went. I kid you not this might have been one of the best burgers I have ever had in Newport or in general! Also the drinks were fantastic! Views make it even better! Definitely check this place out!“

“They were able to accommodate me on a busy weekend, even let me choose my seat even though I was alone and they had people continuing to arrive. The hostess and waitress were friendly, the food was delicious (pesto shrimp pizza), the view was nice as it's right on the water, and I chose a table that allowed me to see it properly. The band I was particularly happy about- I thought they were fantastic- they played early rock n roll, and I wish I asked their name.

It's a really relaxed atmosphere, not fancy, think old patio furniture. My table was not steady and rocked when you moved, the chairs were plastic, but I didn't mind. If you want a good meal on the water and are not picky about that, I'd recommend this place.
