“We were vacationing in Newport from Wisconsin and stopped in at Cappy’s. Sue the bartender was friendly and a wonderful bartender. The owner Joe, what can I say….what a guy! Joe saw us walking to our Airbnb and yelled at us on the street asking when we were headed back home. Joe is a gem of a bartender. He has a gift of gab and can hand out the bs too. Nice local establishment with friendly customers and bartenders. We had Dan as a bartender too and he was a friendly, great guy! First off, if you are a sailor, this is your home away from home. You’ll meet other sailors with fantastic stories.

Secondly, if you are not use to the ball busting style of a RI bar tender, don’t come here. You won’t understand. (Hence the reviews from “out of towners.”). But, if you have a backbone and a respectful, yet smart mouth, you will be right at home.

“Everything about this place was 5 stars. Washington swooped in and saved a birthday dinner, making it one of our best nights in Newport. The service is absolute aces and the food is incredible. Could not recommend Clarke Cooke House enough!!“

“Honestly a great cozy breakfast spot right at the bottom of the hotel which makes it super convenient if your trying to get something to eat either first thing in the morning or at the end of your night, the food is also super good so you can't go wrong with anything you pick!“

“Great place to stay. Marina manager Christian was top notch! He keeps everything running smoothly no matter weather conditions. Marina was clean dock hands were quick with line handling Nice bar to listen to live music either at bar or on boat. Dog friendly marina too. We will definitely be back.“

“They were able to accommodate me on a busy weekend, even let me choose my seat even though I was alone and they had people continuing to arrive. The hostess and waitress were friendly, the food was delicious (pesto shrimp pizza), the view was nice as it's right on the water, and I chose a table that allowed me to see it properly. The band I was particularly happy about- I thought they were fantastic- they played early rock n roll, and I wish I asked their name.

It's a really relaxed atmosphere, not fancy, think old patio furniture. My table was not steady and rocked when you moved, the chairs were plastic, but I didn't mind. If you want a good meal on the water and are not picky about that, I'd recommend this place.
