“We enjoyed having breakfast at this wonderful place while in Newport, RI. The people who own it and those who work there are AMAZING, friendly, and take the time to talk to customers while keeping service at the top of their list. They (from the kitchen to the front door) look like they love working there and have created a loving family environment. Of course, the line was out the door and down the street, but that was okay because everyone enjoyed visiting each other. There is just one warning, the portions are enormous. You know when my husband can't finish it, it's a lot. 🤣“

“Root in Newport — Newport’s only fully vegan spot, and everything feels so fresh. It’s such a cute, cozy little place with a couple of outdoor tables right on the sidewalk, so our pup could join us. We intentionally ate light since we had dinner at Foglia later. I got the Just Egg Violife cheese on an English muffin. It was tasty and well prepared, but not especially unique. I’m wondering if they’d add some of their coconut bacon from the BLT to the breakfast sandwich next time to take it up a level! Hubby got the avocado toast, which was creamy and bright with pickled onion — really tasty. They also have more unique options like the chickpea salad sandwich and coconut bacon BLT that I’d love to try next time when we’re not trying to keep things light. Afterward, we headed to Fort Adams, which is pup-friendly, and finished with some Del’s watermelon. Such a fun Newport day!“

“Steph and the team at scratch were SUPERB! Our catering order was perfect (tho we were sad the croissant machine was down) every thing was piping hot (or nice an cool). Everything was SOOO good. Ordering was easy, Steph ensured we had a great variety and enough to feed the post-wedding crowd. We did have breakfast here and it was stellar! Any event you need catered, be sure to check Steph and the team out. You will, NOT be disappointed!“

“If you’re coming to visit Newport and haven’t heard of Jo’s, it’s because it’s a hidden gem! Amazing local farm-to-table options that keep us and those who visit us asking to go back to that one place in Newport, I really loved! The service to guests with one or more allergies was superb! The chef personally came to our table on each visit to discuss what meals were safe to order. I have multiple allergies, so sometimes they would have made me my own off-the-menu special dish. I’ve never gotten sick once, and everyone who goes there with us when they visit always asks to go back on their next trip! ♥️“

“Today we made a pilgrimage to Basil Yu’s restaurant, Yagi Noodles. My son happened to see that Basil had become a successful restaurateur while he was watching one of Guy Fieri’s shows. We had become acquainted with Basil when we were all involved with a Boy Scout Troop in Manchester NH. We were disappointed to discover that Basil wasn’t at the restaurant, however we got over it when we found out it was due to a commitment to a fundraiser for the James Beard Foundation. Basil, You weren’t there, but your food is delicious. You get the Merit Badge! You weren’t there, but your staff is spectacular! You get the Merit Badge! We wish you continued success! “We were vacationing in Newport from Wisconsin and stopped in at Cappy’s. Sue the bartender was friendly and a wonderful bartender. The owner Joe, what can I say….what a guy! Joe saw us walking to our Airbnb and yelled at us on the street asking when we were headed back home. Joe is a gem of a bartender. He has a gift of gab and can hand out the bs too. Nice local establishment with friendly customers and bartenders. We had Dan as a bartender too and he was a friendly, great guy! “Just finished great meal. Huge lobster roll, high quality kids chicken and big beefy kids burger. I had the fish n chips which was amazing! Old Bay fries and what had to be a whole Cod! The best part was Peter N. He was very informative, quick in serving the kids which lets Mom and Dad relax. Such a great day and great meal.“

“Lovely outdoor ambiance, we sat on the corner outside and watched the town wake up. Subtle queer vibes before 8am. Then the line got long. Jasmine green tea was pretty good (7/10) We really liked the decaf coffee (9/10) what a treat. The regular coffee was not noteworthy, but fine. Nitro’s is much better. Great breakfast sandwich, grab and go ready!“

“I visited the Portsmouth location for the second time this morning and this is a perfect first date spot imo. The large wraparound deck is so cute & cozy, like a farmhouse porch. & the coffee 🤩 I had a tiramisu latte last time, a cherry Garcia latte this time- I was not disappointed either time, the flavors were accurate without being overwhelming or weakening the espresso, & oh so delicious. The food is even better; the attention to detail & balance of flavor in the dishes is off the charts. I recommend the avocado toast or whipped feta plate, and if you’re not into coffee, their teas and lemonades are just as amazing.“

Our varsity team was playing nearby at St. George’s Arena, and she was incredibly friendly, professional, and responsive while taking our order. The food was delivered exactly at the time we requested, and every item was clearly labeled just as we asked, which was especially important because of food allergies on the team. I absolutely loved visiting Clark Cooke House last Christmas! We sat inside, and even though we weren’t outdoors, the atmosphere was extremely cozy, cute, and inviting. The ambiance was so lovely, making the entire experience feel warm and special.

I had the lobster, and I absolutely loved it. It tasted so delicious and was one of the highlights of the meal. For dessert, I had their well-known signature Snowball dessert, which was the best dessert ever! It was the perfect way to end such a wonderful meal.

“Felt like the previous reviews misled us. We were in Newport for a short getaway and went here one night for dinner and I was shocked at the atmosphere. Plastic tables and chairs was not what I was looking for. We ended up staying and they were very nice but the place was totally empty. It's a bar that serves food not really a restaurant at least we didn't see any indoor seating or maybe I missed it. If you are looking for something uber casual this is your spot.“

“Absolutely great food and service. Dined last Saturday evening with two of our teen and preteen grandchildren. All of us enjoyed our meals and the service was on point. This next point deserves mentioning as it speaks to the culture of the establishment: When my granddaughter became ill (NOT food related), the manager came over immediately to help comfort her… she brought hot tea and took her to more private quarters to relax until her discomfort passed. We were impressed and remain grateful for the compassion and level of care exhibited. We will continue to visit again and again in the future. Many thanks!!!“

We did not stay overnight, but the suites are nicely furnished and decorated. There is plenty of space in the 3 bedroom suites.“
