“Tuesday January 14th 2025 was my first time getting food from The Oxtail Factory and I was very pleased. I got the fried chicken, green beans, yams, cornbread, peach cobbler and a sweet tea. The food was 💯 awesome and it hit the spot. The gentleman that helped me was kind and courteous and the ladies that served my food were happy and friendly. I will certainly come back to try more of their food. Thank You Oxtail!!”

“My husband and I recently stopped at The Edge General Store in Edge, Texas, just outside Bryan and Hearne, and immediately knew we'd found one of those special Texas places that seem to be disappearing.

I originally stopped for lunch, but I left with a story!

The owner, Teresa Bordeau, welcomed us like family and shared the history of the store and the community. What I learned amazed me. The original store was built in 1907 and served the community for generations. After a family tragedy, it closed and sat empty for nearly 40 years before Teresa and her family purchased and restored it in 2007, bringing a beloved piece of Texas history back to life.
The food was incredible. I had what was honestly the best BLT I've eaten in years. One bite took me right back to my childhood. It tasted exactly like the BLTs my momma used to make. In today's world, that's not something you forget.
But what makes The Edge General Store special isn't just the food.
The store is filled with clothing, gifts, antiques, and treasures that make you want to slow down and look around. Every corner has character. Behind the store is a unique gathering space that looks like a converted greenhouse with beautiful old wooden floors, room for live music, dancing, weddings, and community events. The floor itself came from the generosity of customers and local businesses that rallied around Teresa and her family during difficult times.
What really touched me was learning how much the community means to Teresa and how much she means to them. Through personal hardships, including her son's battle with cancer, and through the challenges many small businesses faced during COVID, she kept finding ways to bring people together. In 2020, with very little money to spare, she started a pumpkin patch behind the store to give families a place to gather. That pumpkin patch has since become a local tradition.
As we walked around, preparations were already underway for this year's fall pumpkin celebration. The backyard is full of eclectic displays, antiques, rustic Texas charm, and places where families can create memories. It feels less like a business and more like a community gathering place.
This place is a story about resilience, community, Texas history, and a hometown woman who refused to let an important piece of her community disappear. The Edge General Store is not just a restaurant or gift shop. It is the heart of a small Texas community, and Teresa Bordeau is the reason it is beating again!”

People are black, white, brown and they're eating in Johnny Reb's Dixie Diner and knew it when they pulled up. Find it refreshing to see people mixed together enjoying themselves. It's a piece of Americana, the old days where people smile, eat hearty and laugh without being in front of a camera!”

“What a wonderful treat! So far I've enjoyed their chicken sandwich, fish sandwich, and cheeseburger and because I've liked them so much I haven't moved on to anything else on their menu yet, lol. And, because I like spicy food, I've ordered them all to be prepared with their homemade spicy sauce and jalapenos... amazing!! Ask for extra tartar sauce when you order their fish sandwich, it's crazy good! Great food, friendly service, and reasonably priced 👍👍”

“Great stop in the middle of nowhere. Cute restaurant with a lot of Mexican options. I got guisada with cactus and my lady got asada tacos. My dish was absolutely fantastico. Hers on the other hand was fatty and flavorless. Great augas frescas! We will try some other dishes when we come back through town but for now get the guisada and skip the asada!”

“You must try the burrito. It was big and delicious. I definitely recommend not sharing it, even though it's large, because you'll want leftovers. The burrito was served with a side of green hot sauce that was tasty and not too spicy.”

“I recently moved here and decided to try Becky’s Taqueria when I saw the long line around the building. The wait did not disappoint! The food (so far, I’ve had the breakfast tacos and a taco salad) is amazing and everyone is sweet. Btw the wait was 6 minutes after ordering.”

“Every time I go to this location there are these 2 beautiful baddies working. And I only try to go when they are working. Our sandwiches are stuffed as they can be. I love my veggie delight buffet on bread! But man the way they make these sandwiches and the way they are able to make sure everything is stuffed just right.. And make it home to eat and not be soggy and falling out is literally Chefs kiss!! These ladies need a raise! They need to be employees of the year. I truly only want to ever go to this location because of how well they make the sub's. Especially mine. It's a lot. If this location ever lost these woman I swear I would probably have to never eat subway again. And they love how I want extra onions and don't mind the onion smell on people's breath ? GREAT JOB LADIES WE SALUTE YOUR CRAFT??”

“Ama’s is one of my favorite spots in town! The food is always incredible, and they have the best beef quesadillas around. Their online ordering portal makes it super easy and convenient to place an order, which I love. The service is consistently amazing, everyone is always so friendly and welcoming. The owners are truly great people, very family-oriented, and it shows in the quality of their food and how much they care about their staff and customers. Highly recommend!”

“Waited 45 minutes for food and we were the only ones there. Wait staff and cook didn’t want to be there and it showed because we were hardly checked on and the food was sub par. Eggs and sausage was burnt and cold. Buscuit was pre made and served with cold gravy. Wouldn’t touch this place with a ten foot pole ever again”

My husband had a customer request item we saw on Facebook of the house salad with chicken and avocado. We were both stuffed. A great place to go relax with no rush... “If your coming into Franklin to stay at the campsite or just passing through on a weekend I highly recommend making the stop. The food was so flavorful and delicious! We had the sliced roasted chicken, pasta with chicken (in a whiskey sauce) a Voss cattle burger and banana pudding! Family run and staffed! Great experience and loved that the owner came out and talked about her food… that tells me she loves what she does.”

“2 Chicken Tenders, a bacon egg & cheese biscuit, & Lg. Potato Wedge w/ a drink cost us $16.25 when I got to the car I realized how much we were charged so as my husband pumped gas I took the food back in and asked for a refund. I was refused a refund and was told to call back at 8am to talk to the manager. There were 3 other customers in the store who also agreed that it was way over priced, and so did an older lady who was also an employee. Calling to speak with a manager has been a joke.”

“I had the barbacoa burrito, with beans and rice. Very good burrito, it was so large and juicy I couldn't pick it up. I had to open and eat it with a fork. The lady behind the counter was very nice and friendly. All in all, a very nice experience. Clean store, with parking for about a dozen semi's.”

“Today marks a bittersweet milestone it's my last meal here in Franklin as I'm heading to a new job near DFW. This place has been my absolute favorite, and I'll carry the memories with me. The breakfast tacos alone are worth the trip. Thank you for always making it such a wonderful experience!
