Tried poppy and sesame bagels, one a pizza bagel, the other a Lox with roasted garlic cream cheese, minus the salmon. The chocolate rugelah was butter and flakey and to die for. It’s the cutest little treat shop in Austin with a lot of heart cause they sure do TRY HARD! ☕️✨☕️Are the prices a bit steep? Sure, but it’s reflective of a business trying to make a difficult change in an industry that’s been operating on not paying folks what they are worth for a very long time. “I have always cherished the authentic culinary delights from Phoenicia Bakery & Deli. Among these, the homemade kibbeh has always held a special place in my heart. Its perfect blend of finely ground meat, bulgur, and spices, all lovingly hand-shaped and cooked to perfection, offered not just a meal but an experience that spoke of tradition and quality. Recently, I've noticed the shift to offering frozen kibbeh, and while it serves as a decent substitute, it doesn't quite capture the essence of the fresh version. The frozen kibbeh, though convenient and satisfactory in moments of craving, lacks the freshness, the distinct textures, and the warmth of homemade kibbeh that I've come to love and expect. I understand the challenges and pressures that might lead to such a decision, but I can't help but express how much the homemade kibbeh is missed. It was more than just food; it was a testament to the care, authenticity, and culinary excellence that Phoenicia Bakery & Deli represents. I kindly urge you to consider bringing back the homemade kibbeh. Its return would not only delight many of your patrons but also reaffirm Phoenicia Bakery & Deli's dedication to providing genuine, high-quality cuisine that connects us to culture and tradition in every bite. Thank you for taking the time to consider this request, and I eagerly await the day I can once again savor the unparalleled taste of your homemade kibbeh.“

“I love uppercrust, but ever since they changed the bearclaw recipe, I've been disappointed... it was better before. It was tender and bready and chewy and had a good amount of filling. I think they changed it to the croissant dough, and I love a croissant, but it doesn't work with the bearclaw for me! They had a special and unique thing there that nowhere else had, and now it's always dry, kind of tough, and sometimes the filling is just a log of cream cheese and somehow a log of intact (not melted) chocolate. At this point I'd rather go somewhere else than face the disappointment of my favorite pastry in austin being gone. I've given it so many chances since the recipe change and it's just not what I want! I loved it before!!! Change it back pleeeeaaaasseeeeeee. They have a lot of other great stuff though... their coconut cream pie has a layer of chocolate between the crust and the filling and the whole thing is delicious.“

“I'm extremely picky about my desserts, having started my career in baking, and especially when it comes to cheesecakes. I'll rarely attempt to order one off a menu at this point, given how many poor examples I've had throughout the years. The Celia Jacobs Cheesecake Experience, however, gives me hope. Why is no one talking about this little trailer camped out at the Thicket Food Park? I had never heard of it before and wouldn't have thought there was a single option, but lo and behold, they offer over 15 different flavors that are 100% plant-based! What's even more mind-blowing is how FANTASTIC they are. I tried the tuxedo (AKA chocolate and vanilla swirl) which far exceeded all expectations. It's creamy and rich, dense but not cloying, sweet but not sugary, served chilled for a refreshing grand finale on a warm spring evening. Flavors vary and now I just want to stop in everyday to try all of them.“

“I recently spent 5 days on a girls trip to Austin, a city I had previously only visited once, like 7 years ago. Since that trip, I have viewed Texas with a nearly singular goal of revolution--uh, I mean, trying Texas-style kolaches. So imagine my glee when a kolache and beer establishment presented itself as an option?! We tried to go one afternoon, but kolaches were in seriously limited supply, so we returned the next morning. I had a little bit of the ol' vacation gut, and it was relatively early, so I didn't partake of any beer, but their selection, which featured a variety of Czech style beers, looked really good. If I go back, will definitely try one or three of them. What I did have and enjoy, however, was a delightful oat milk latte as well as some kolaches. Got a veggie sausage & gouda, four cheese (which was split), and a strawberry & cheese, which most resembles the kolaches you find in the Czech Republic. My companions got a jalapeño cheese and a couple of meat options, which I did not try. But lemme tell you: that shit was good! Airy yet indulgent, substantial but not overwhelmingly so. Very good. Service was prompt and friendly, the spot is very cute, and they have great souvenirs to take home and prove to your friends that you had what is, perhaps, one of the best kolache experiences in Texas*. (* As previously stated, I have been to Texas exactly two times, both trips to Austin, so the veracity of this last statement should be taken with a significant chunk of salt.)“

Be sure to check their social media or website to find their location. I ordered the following six flavors to try: strawberry shine, mangonada, ube rainbow, vanilla with crunchy chili oil, birthday cake and classic chocolate. They were soft with a chewy texture...perfect. Flavored beautifully. She provided me the instructions for warming them up for the next day. They were still good the next day. “We came in trying to cut thru the parking lot and deceided to stop in. It was our first time even though we lived in this neighborhood about 12 years ago. When you walk in it smells like bread. They bake everything everyday and when they are out of something it is out. My daughter wanted to try the morning bread but apparently we took too long and it was snatched up. I ended up getting the Spinach Feta Danish which was good. It was the perfect blend of spinach and danish. I didn't think it would mesh but it did. I also got the Caramel Apple Pie which I eat later. My daughter got the Foliage Sausage Bread which she loved. It was soft enough that it didn't mess with her braces and she said it felt she was in another country. She also got the Vanilla Cream Doughnut which she had immediately after the sausage bread and she loved it. I tried it and it was better than any doughnut I have had. I also got the Honey Lavender Matcha Latte and I will say I have tried matcha at a couple places trying to figure it out. I think I found the one I like. It does pick up bc as soon as we got ours the place started picking up. They have tons of seating inside and outside. They offer free wifi but I had no need for it. They have signs advising to that since it is so fresh to eat same day or within a day. I can honestly say that this would be a hike from S Austin that I am willing to take. I will DEFINITELY be a regular :D“

“We love love Baguette et chocolat.First, I would like to say that the person who gave only one star is not being fair with their review. They had it on their website that there will be no fève. It was their choice bc in America, unfortunately, you need to be careful with things that you could choke on: they probably didn’t want to get sued in case something happened. This person forgot to mention how delicious the galette des rois was. We had leftovers bc we are a family of 3. It was perfect reheated in the toaster oven for the next 2 days. The crust was perfectly flaky. The almond cream was sweet but not too sweet, the right amount of sugar and almond. This place hasn’t changed since it got bought back a couple of years ago. The quality is still the same: it’s still the same pastry chef. The owners are so nice and friendly.I love going there and having my chausson aux pommes, they’re definitely my favorite. I love how flaky are their croissant, pains au chocolat. It’s always hard to decide between a plain good old croissant, pain aux raisins or chausson aux pommes. Sometimes I have to get all 3 ?I’ve never had their breakfast for some reason, I should try. I’ve had plenty of their lunch items. Their salads are really good and fresh. I love their sandwiches: I feel like I’m home. Their croque monsieur are my favorite thing on their lunch menu: if you haven’t tried them yet, do yourself a favor and head over to get yours. So good!!! Love the sauce on top. I don’t like when other French bakeries make them without that sauce: to me, it’s what make a great croque monsieur.Everything is made fresh so if you’re in a rush, order ahead and your food will be ready when you get there.Being French, sometimes I miss home. If I need comfort food, Baguette et chocolat is where I go.Keep on supporting this amazing bakery!“

“This is a really chill cafe where you can get a lot of work done. They bake this fresh at their other location every day and then bring it over to this location and other cafes.I like that it’s not cold or loud and the wifi is great. Of course, the options for food and coffee is solid as well! The worker was really nice and helpful to me, as she was knowledgeable of everything they offered.I’ll be back!“

“Such a cute little spot for a brunch - especially on a day where the weather is great! The staff were amazing during today’s visit. No complaints there. Definitely a family friendly location. I tried their breakfast sandwich but I wasn’t too much of a fan because of the overpowering arugula flavor. Fries were good though! Would definitely be okay with coming back to try a different dish.“

“I'd had Mi Tradicion on my list of places to check out for ages, and I'm kind of kicking myself for not trying it sooner. The right side of the business has a counter to order mains and has restaurant seating. I ordered an al pastor taco, which was good, although there ended up being a fair amount of gristle in the meat, and a tinga (shredded chicken) quesadilla. If you haven't had a legit quesadilla, this would be a good place to introduce yourself to the non-Americanized version. It comes on their homemade blue corn tortilla, and had an almost creamy interior between the cheese, beans, sour cream, and juicy chicken. Absolutely killer. I also got horchata, and was possibly the sweetest one I've had, but I love sugar so I was ok with that. Definitely more of a slow sip than a gulp it down situation though. After the meal, my friend and I headed over to the left side of the interior--the bakery. The walls were filled with an overwhelming variety of pastries, cake slices, churros, etc. You grab a metal tray and tongs from a stand in the middle, fill it up, and then head over to the bakery checkout counter to pay. Unfortunately, by the time I had narrowed down what I wanted, the churros were all gone, so I'll have to try those next time. The pastry that knocked my socks off was the guava empanada (which my friend said was shaped like a ship from Star Wars.) Thin, flaky pastry surrounds a really generous amount of guava paste, and the taste is like nothing else. I popped mine into the air fryer to heat it up before eating it, which I highly recommend doing. The iced vanilla cake slice, oreja (flaky puff pastry shaped like a heart), and polvoron (crumbly shortbread cookie) were all good as well. I also got the chocoflan, which was a miss for me. The chocolate cake on the bottom was good, but the flan on top was executed poorly. The outer two thirds had a tough texture with big air bubbles, meaning the heat was way too high when it was baked, and only the inside third of the flan was silky and smooth. Overall, can't wait to go back and try more delicious things, but I'll definitely be buying the guava empanada and quesadilla when I go back :) P.S., if you're unfamiliar with most of the Hispanic baked goods, and like to look up info (like I do) so you're not walking in totally blind, you can go to their website to google the different pastries they offer ahead of time. Go to "more" on the top left of the screen, click "sweet bread gallery," and then scroll through.“

“This spot was directly in front of our AirBnB and I'm sad we waited to the last day of our trip to try it. The espresso was smooth, the cinnamon roll soft, sweet, and deliciously yeasty, and the savory croissant was all the flaky goodness you want from a pastry. The space is small, but boasts a selection of deli items like curry chickpeas and cucumbers with feta, a full espresso menu, bagels, and a large case of pastry delights.“

“During our visit from out of town, this restaurant quickly became a favorite. The vegetarian Mexican food was solid, and the ambiance was peaceful, with friendly staff. Our orders were quickly taken, and there was minimal wait for our food. The portions were reasonably sized for the price. We also had some gluten-free donuts, which were surprisingly good (gluten-free can be hit or miss). Highlights from our meal included the mole enchiladas, vegan enchiladas, and flautas. Definitely worth a visit!“

“Caroline resurrected us. This place is AMAZING. The miso salmon was sublime and the strawberry shortcake was fresh, refreshing, and delightful. I also had great company so that made for an excellent experience :)Also of note was the delicious short rib - the cauliflower grits were a nice surprise, and the short rib was tender and well cooked. Perhaps the best part of the meal was the butter cake for dessert! Will definitely be thinking of that dessert for a long time to come.“
