“I cannot express how absolutely amazing this bread tastes. It's clearly made with love and skill and every single bite melts in your mouth in the most perfect way. I'd love to share photos but unfortunately my weekly loaf has yet to make it to day three nor has any of the delicious sweet bread they also bake. “My family ordered a slice of strawberry cake and hummingbird cake. Both slices are moist and delicious. The hummingbird cake has pineapple and pecans that paired together so wonderfully. The icing was not too sweet. The strawberry cake has the strawberry flavor but not weighed down with tons of strawberries. Both slices were fluffy. We ordered a toffee cookie and a cookies and cream cookie. I’m told they were delicious crunchy and chewy.“

The chocolate almond croissant from Sub Rosa is the best one I've ever had..period. Also, the ham and cheese croissant and the tart was incredible. We heard about how fast they sell out so we ordered a few days ahead of our trip. I'd recommend doing the same if you want to guarantee you'll get what you want. We got a couple coffees, a bacon egg cheese biscuit, the blueberry buckle, and the goat cheese galette — all were phenomenal! They truly know their pastry and their flavors, offering a selection of items that range from nostalgic to inventive (brussel sprouts in a galette that melt in your mouth?!?). The blueberries in the blueberry buckle tasted so fresh, it reminded me of summertime in Maine. They forgot about part of our order which truly was not a big deal, and the staff more than made up for it by sending us home with a cookie & treats for our pup. My only complaint is that I don’t live closer, though I suppose that’s best for my blood sugar…“

Each and every shelf, nook, and table was occupied by the most delightful treats, ranging from classic oatmeal raisin cookies, decadent oatmeal chocolate chunk cookies, colorful M&Ms cookies, their very own Spice Cookies, light and airy angel food cakes, luxurious breads stuffed with nuts and fresh orange, as well as ready-to-heat and serve cream cheese frosting smothered cinnamon rolls. Why, there was even a gingerbread cookie kit for you to decorate your own gingerbread cookies with your loved ones!In addition to the walls and tables piled high with these culinary delights, there was an ample counter stuffed with individual donuts of all sorts, cookies, and other exquisite pastries to be purchased a la carte or by the dozen. Knowing that we were saving our gingerbread cookies for later in the day, we knew we had the perfect reason to order some fresh baked donuts to start our holiday morning, and promptly requested both a lemon filled donut and a cream filled donut.As soon as we got home, we neatly divided each donut so that we could share our breakfast, and each experience the flavors and textures we were so excited about! These donuts were both baked so nicely, with a delicately crisp but tender outside, with a light, fluffy but still doughy inside. What made these donuts sing was their balanced composition, as each was filled with just the right amount of creamy filling, ensuring that each bite had the proper ratio of filling to donut. As for the lemon filling, it gave the perfect amount of “pucker;” it was a well-balanced, sweet and sour flavor with a rich and cheerful attitude. “Lovely little bakery on a cute street. Stopped by on a Saturday morning to get the best selection and they had so many tasty-looking items. It was hard to choose! I selected the chocolate-almond croissant, the canele, and the supreme of the day (coffee-chocolate). We moved to Richmond from Charlottesville and I am a big fan of Marie Bette and the late, great Bowerbird Bakeshop. Idle Hands is definitely on the level with these. The supreme is a unique offering, and I'm so glad I was able to try it in one of my favorite flavors - coffee. It was huge and had tons of coffee pastry creme - so good. The canele was good, although I prefer the mini ones from Marie Bette - the smaller size makes a better ratio between the caramely outside and the soft inside. The chocolate-almond croissant was the star of the show. So generously filled with almond cream that it weighed nearly 12 ounces! Light and delicious pastry. A perfect treat!“

“The wife and I stopped in for lunch and both got different chicken sandwiches and fries. We went in right after a convention got out or something because the place was packed. There was a wait to order and for food but again it was packed. We found a table and sat comfortably as we waited. When we got the food it was worth it, one of the best chicken sandwiches we've ever had. (I got the barbecue version and my wife went with the Nashville hot, both were cooked perfectly and seasoned well) Between the fries and sandwich it was a lot of food so very filling to say the least. If in the area I would recommend trying it out if you want a chicken sandwich, with so many different varieties you won't be dissapointed. They do offer more than just chicken sandwiches as well.“

We had to accommodate dairy-free, egg-free, soy-free and gluten-free dietary restrictions and not only was the cake INCREDIBLE, but the service was so good. I emailed my inquiry and got a response quickly. I had a change the week of my order and it was accommodated with a smile. Our birthday girl, who had the dietary restrictions, could not believe that she could really eat the cake. We had one guest day he thought the WPA cake was better than the other one we had that was the same flavor but had gluten, dairy, egg and soy.WPA will now be our go-to bakery.
