“Sub Rosa is THE bakery in Richmond! I live about 2 hours away and always make sure I stop by when I’m passing by. It’s about half a mile off the highway, so it’s easy. There’s no parking lot, so finding parking can be an issue, but don’t let that discourage you!
The bread and baked goods are as close to being in Europe as I’ve found (I lived abroad for 8 years). Crusts are light, flaky and leave a little butter on your lips. Everything is fresh and full of flavor. Staff is always friendly and welcoming.
They serve and sell both Recluse and Afterglow coffee - both are excellent local beans.

“Such a cute biscuit shop! I got the special biscuit of the day, cheddar cheese, and the strawberry iced matcha. Both were good, and the biscuit was enormous!
Was very busy, but food and my matcha came out fast. Service was lovely.

“I come to IH all the time, right on my street. This morning I got the mixed berry galette and it is the best thing I’ve ever eaten. Not too sweet, perfectly flaky, with the slight crunch of granulated sugar washed on the dough. It is absolute perfection. Please consider making it a regular 😍 Thanks for all you do. “I recently stopped by Pies and Cakes in Richmond, and it’s a charming little bakery that really impressed me. The shop is small and cozy, but the desserts are packed with flavor. They offer a rotating selection of pies, cakes, cookies, and cupcakes, so there’s usually something new to try each time you visit.
I tried one of their cupcakes, and it was incredibly soft with rich, balanced frosting. Everything tasted fresh and homemade rather than overly sweet. The staff were welcoming and happy to explain the different flavors, which made the experience even better.
Overall, Pies and Cakes is a great little spot in Richmond if you’re craving high-quality baked treats or need a dessert for a special occasion.“

On the day, the wedding cake looked exactly like the inspirational photos we had sent over and it tasted even better than it looked. The price was great and we got lots of compliments. If you’re looking for anything custom made in the Richmond area we would highly recommend!“

“Sefton is the greatest cafe in richmond, the staff are so kind to everyone who comes in. I get the same thing every time I come in to the point where barista’s and the owners know my order 😂. I get it bc it’s easy on my stomach, but they have such an amazing looking menu and are always changing it to fit the season! I always make sure to bring friends and family who are visiting here because it really is a special part of the community 🙂“

“George made a DELICIOUS apple pie for me! I needed an apple pie for a birthday celebration that was happening on a Sunday evening. George made the pie on Sunday morning and drove to the West End to deliver the pie to me that afternoon. It was still WARM! Everyone at the party LOVED the pie. It was the best apple pie I have ever had! He used three different types of apples and they were wonderful. The crust was unbelievable! I ordered the "monstrous butter crust" topping and it was amazing. I would definitely order from Poor Georgie's Bake Shoppe again. Fantastic customer service!“

“As a Brazilian I have to say that this place is pure magic and the best of treats to find in VA and the US! One of the things I miss most about Brazil is bakeries and their delicious and amazing pastries and treats!
Different than most Brazilian restaurants that will mostly serve dishes and plates with rice and beans, this location serves pastries (savory and sweet), cakes, breads, and some Brazilian grocery items. Everything that I have tried there has taken me back to Brazil and tasted just like home!
I’ve heard about their buffet, but haven’t tried. However, based on all the things I’ve tried, I can’t imagine being anything short of incredibly delicious!
Whether you’re Brazilian looking for a taste of home, or someone looking to experience Brazilian bakeries, treats and service. Definitely recommend!“
