Restaurantji unveils Oakton's must-visit Mexican dining spots.
“Parking: The servers are friendly, helpful, willing to explain things like how the app works, and are pleasant to deal with. They never rush you even when they are busy. Five stars just for excellent customer service. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️I have eaten at this location several times and the food is always fresh and delicious. Thank you.“
“We got our food to go since the place is on the small side but the food did not disappoint. The sopes were delicious and the torta chingona was amazing. The torta can definitely Can be shared with another person since it’s on the big side (I think it was obvious from the name) I’ll definitely return!“
“Banditos Tacos and Tequila was definitely a pleasant surprise. Despite it being a busy Friday night and not having a reservation, there was no wait for great booth seating - and the music was great. The Hamburger Nachos were scrumptious and were definitely shareable — the portion size was huge!! I went with the Quesadilla Marina for my main course & devoured it!! The Old Bay seasoned shrimp and cilantro claw were THE perfect combo with the Chihuahua cheese ?Our server was super duper attentive and checked in often to make sure we had enough water and also weren’t waiting to order anything else.“
“Fantastic street tacos ($4-$6 per) and delicious margaritas. Orders are taken on a kiosk, so… no human interaction and straight forward. The only interaction we had was through the bar tender, which wasn’t much. Didn’t seem like wanted to be there nor did he seem to care about customers waiting to order. Bottom line - awesome food, unfriendly drinks.“
“This hidden gem offers a delightful fusion of flavors that's as vibrant and colorful as a Mexican mural. This family-owned operation not only wins your heart with its super friendly staff but also caters to a symphony of dietary preferences, making it a haven for vegetarians, vegans, and those seeking halal options. The casual atmosphere, a playful blend of Mexican zest and Greek finesse, sets the stage for a dining experience that's both laid-back and lip-smackingly good.Diving into the menu is like embarking on a culinary world tour, starting in Mexico with the Vegan taco, a masterclass in flavor that proves you don't need meat to create a masterpiece. It's a plant-based delight that showcases the kitchen's knack for transforming simple ingredients into something extraordinary. The Mexican Pizza, a Wild Tacoz signature, is a flavor bomb. Imagine a 12" pizza that shuns the traditional crust for a double cheese-filled tortilla, creating a base that's as innovative as it is delicious. Topped with a protein of your choice and adorned with a medley of toppings including mild or spicy salsa, a three-cheese mix, tomatoes, onions, black beans, romaine, cilantro, and corn crumbs, it's a dish that dances on the line between genius and madness, landing squarely on the side of genius. Then, we set sail for Greece with the Gyro Burrito, a culinary hybrid that's as bold as it is delicious. Packed with rice, lettuce, tomatoes, cucumbers, onions, feta, and tzatziki, it's a wrap that wraps you in warmth and comfort, proving that when Mexico meets Greece, the result is nothing short of spectacular.Wild Tacoz is not just a restaurant; it's a testament to the power of family, fusion, and the universal language of delicious food. With every dish made to order, freshness is the name of the game, ensuring that each visit is as delightful as the last. In a world where fusion can sometimes mean confusion, Wild Tacoz stands out as a beacon of culinary creativity, blending Mexican flair and Greek elegance into a dining experience that's sure to leave you wild with joy.“
“Going on a Friday night was a mistake. We joined the wait list via their website but were informed when we arrived that they don't use that system anymore. The wait was long and there's no waiting area so everyone was standing in the way of staff walking by and people trying to get through the door. The food is exactly the same as their former restaurant (which is to say good quality but not true Tex-Mex) and drinks incredibly overpriced.“
“Came during happy hour, and was pleasantly surprised at the prices and options they had. Loved the frozen lime margarita (a must), with the chicken quesadillas and the guacamole and salsa to share with the table. Loved the pupusas, and the best thing about this restaurant is that the food is always fresh and hot! We loved the tres leches and the churros and ice cream.“
“I have been to all the local El Pasos and I like them all.I just never cared for the free chips & salsa. They don't taste authentic & are flavorless. I also hear the steak is absolutely horrible. It's so bad, two people I took will never go there, again. But the margaritas are affordable, delicious, there's a wide variety & you can have them made with top-shelf ingredients. I also do prefer health foods & there is very little I can order, but just enough that I still make the trip, a few times a year. With the last thought said, I would be happier if they had a healthier portion of the menu. Maybe gf tacos or burritos, refried beans without animal lard, a good-tasting vegan cheese (Kite Hill or Tofutti) and/or gf tortilla chips. Maybe even more salads, too. If they did, I'd probably go more then a few times a year. Maybe a few times a month! No one wants to eat the same thing, all the time.Although the lighting is a little bright, I do like the atmosphere. It's colorful & authentic & has plenty of booth-seating.Upon this last visit service was slow and my order came out wrong, even with a translator, but they made up for it, just fine. Usually my order comes out 100% correct. However, I will not stop going, despite anything negative I may have said!Vegetarian options: You'd have to customize a ton & note that the refried beans contain animal lard.Dietary restrictions: Nothing GF available, except a salad or dishes where the tacos come on the side (so you can just not eat them), like the enchiladas.“
“Friendly service and delicious food. The flan was awesome! Great place to treat myself while getting my car worked on across the street. (Glad I’m still young enough to sprint for my life across horrible Fairfax roads with no easy way for pedestrians to cross.)“
“A few years ago, this place deserved 6 stars, it was amazing. Since expanding and growing its lost some of its luster. Online ordering forces you to have the same toppings on all your tacos if you get a 2/3/4 pack. Plus you can’t get two of the same meat, makes no sense. The salsa is now in packets like Taco Bell. It’s great to see that they have been successful but just like District Taco, the quality and options have been reduced.“
“"Taco Bamba is a true gem in the world of Mexican cuisine. From the moment you step inside, you're greeted with vibrant colors and aromas that set the stage for an unforgettable dining experience. The menu is a culinary adventure, offering a tantalizing array of tacos, each bursting with flavor and authenticity. Whether you're a meat lover, a seafood enthusiast, or a devout vegetarian, there's something for everyone here. The ingredients are fresh, the portions are generous, and the presentation is impeccable. The staff is friendly, knowledgeable, and always eager to make recommendations. And let's not forget about the drinks - their margaritas are simply sublime! Whether you're grabbing a quick bite or settling in for a leisurely meal with friends, Taco Bamba never disappoints. It's a must-visit destination for any food lover."“
“De.lic.ious.I don't like Mexican food. Never have. My husband loves it. We had to go for his bday so I looked up places and found this place with 4.8 stars. OK. We went and it's in some industrial area. The smell was mouth watering. For me, that's weird because I don't like Mexican food. The food came. We tried tacos, Carne asada, nachos, fajitas - we finished it. ALL. Even my picky eater ate and ate well.I'm so happy I found this little gem.Don't question it - just go!“
“We hadn't been in a while and were not disappointed. The food and service was excellent. The device was fresh and delicious. Ricardo was the most attractive server and the manager, Edgar, was on the floor and checked on us as well. Highly recommend!“
“This place is a gem. The food is so fresh and delicious. I especially recommend the carnitas tacos and the cheese pupusa, but the chicken tacos are also excellent. Their carnitas and chicken are perfectly seasoned and tender. Everyone I've encountered there has been friendly. If only they had weekend hours! But hey, their food is a great way to treat yourself on a long work day.“
“Qué rico! ? This Mexican food is absolutely divine! The flavors are so vibrant and authentic, it's like a taste explosion in my mouth! The tortillas are perfectly handmade, the meats are tender and juicy, and the sauces are rich and bold. And the presentation? ¡Es una obra de arte! ? Every dish is a masterpiece, a feast for the eyes as much as the taste buds. I could eat here every day and never get tired of it. The service is also top-notch, friendly and attentive. ¡Viva la comida mexicana! ?? Five stars isn't enough, this place deserves a million! ?“
“This place is legit! So glad I came upon this place. Anyone serving nopleys and grilled onions needs to be seriously considered. The beef tongue is phenomenal! Fresh made charrorones with fresh guacamole is fire! If you want TRUE Mexican food, this is your place!“
“I loved the food. The salsa bar on the side was a nice idea and the entertainment, TV, was nice to watch while eating. The chips were amazing as you could add how much salsa you wanted. I loved the deep-fried ice cream and I believe that one is enough for a whole family as it is very big. Hope you find this rating helpful and enjoy your experience. ✌️?Vegetarian options: Most of the platters are vegetarian as you can customize it to your preferences.“
“The best tacos and Californian Burritos you can find in the DMV area. Ditch Chipotle and other big name taco places - this place is everything you need. I love the Californian burritos and the steak tacos. The staff is always friendly and helpful.“
“I will go back to Urbano. The food was good on my one visit, and the atmosphere was excellent with two sides of the restaurant open to the outdoors in good weather. The service was acceptable. The men's room is inadequate for the capacity of the restaurant though.“
“We stumbled upon Taco Rock one day while shopping and went for lunch. About 5 hours later we went back for dinner! If that doesn't tell you how great this place is, I don't know what will. The atmosphere is great! Everything from '80s videos to today's, fun to watch along with several TVs. Usually with sports. The music's not too loud that you can't have a conversation. The menu is actually quite expansive, more than just tacos.. They have everything from basic tacos to more complex and fusion type tacos along with tortas, quesadillas, and even a taco salad bowl. And The joy of this place is you can eat a few tacos and a soda for less than 10 bucks. You can also go way beyond that with one of their appetizers like nachos, taco pizza, empanadas and more. The tortas and sandwiches are quite good but run a little expensive. I've yet to try the fajitas but see them often and people seem to enjoy them. Other than that, I think we've had everything on the menu!I'm at the Falls Church location weekly, and you actually start to see a lot of the same crowd there. It's not unusual to see families there with the parents on the bar side and the kids on the restaurant side. As far as the bar, it seems quite busy, but I've yet to really connect with a bartender there. Some are friendlier than others. The rest of the staff, however, are absolutely amazing. Everyone from the cooking crew who smiles and laughs but is 100% professional to the friendly and fast expediters to Mario, the master of Quality Control ensuring your leal is not only accurate but beautiful to look at, he is rhe glue that keeps the whole place together. You can't go wrong with Taco Rock!Vegetarian options: The fried avocado, balsamic mushroom, and my personal favorite. The cauliflower tacos are amazing.“
“Fantastic atmosphere! Very family-friendly and filled with vibrant culture, including a mariachi band that works for tips. The food took a little while to arrive, but there were enough distractions (including chips and salsa) to keep us entertained.“
“The Bulgogi, spicy pork, al pastor and carne asada tacos were the best. The chorizo tacos were good, and so were the Gal bee. The carnitas and pork belly lacked flavor but the meat was cooked well. The complimentary chips and salsa was really good! The music was interesting. It was a mix of some slow covered R&B and some modern Mexican music. They kept switching the songs, which was kinda odd. Decent server, not above and beyond but not below average. I’d recommend this place to my friends.“
“It's new, it's good, it's worth visiting. [fin] Ok, jk jk, I'll write more. Let's cover food, service, and ambiance in that order. Food: Solid to very good. Of the el arriero ny steak, lomo saltado, and molcajete ... the steak and molcajete win. Sadly the lomo saltado, while quite decent, doesn't hold a candle to Super Chicken in Tysons. Ok but here's the important bit: THE CHIPS. The chips are great. Not only are they thin and crispy, they're well salted AND served with both WARM and COLD salsas. I never thought anyone would do as well as Uncle Julios for chips, but ... well, Guapos does. Service: Ironically we've been twice and we had the same server both times. And she was excellent. Super friendly, quick with requests, and checked in frequently. Not only that, they clearly operate as a team and several folks came by during the meal to ensure drinks were filled, napkins were in order ... and shockingly, as we were wrapping up, someone wiped the crumbs off the table. I mean that's a white-tablecloth steakhouse thing... right? Apparently it's a Guapos thing too. Ambiance: Fun to hip. The first time we were there was opening week and the live band was both entertaining and, uh, loud. Look, we're fogies, we complain about this err ... stuff. The second time we went it was much quieter and we were able to enjoy our meals AND our conversation. The decor is pretty great, the table arrangement spacious, and the place was packed, nevertheless. I'll close out with parking. It's a big lot, and it gets crowded ... but we found spots nevertheless on a busy night. Looking for Mexican? Yeah, I'd go here again. No arm-twisting required.“
“If you're looking for an international version of a greasy spoon, this is it! Food is superb. Prices are reasonable for anywhere, let alone NOVA. Atmosphere is attractively rough around the edges. And they have good beer on tap. Highly recommend!“
“Happy hour was packed and I thought I’d be waiting for a while for my drinks and food, but that was not the case. My beer came amazingly fast and my tacos were served soon afterwards and were delicious. I was just looking for a convenient place nearby my hotel, but it was so much more than I expected. I look forward to going again.“
“Best taco bamba in my opinion. Plenty of parking spots. Fast service. Food is goodVegetarian options: Depends on the menu, they have a coupleDietary restrictions: Ask the employee, they would be better helpParking: Open space parking lot, unique shopping center but enough parking spots if not the weekend or busy dayKid-friendliness: Clean and friendly environmentWheelchair accessibility: Not really accessible“
“Great hole in the wall spot on the second floor. Food is delicious - not too oily so tacos don't get soggy. Great range of menu options. The steak, beef, chicken are halal.Dietary restrictions: The meat (chicken, beef) is halalParking: Strip mall with lots of spots to park“
“Uncle Jalapeño’s was so good. Karan our waiter was so nice and the manager on duty stopped by to say hello. All the staff was so friendly and the food was so good. The paneer tikka tacos, the nachos and the chicken tandoori burrito (forgot to get a pic before the Mister dug into it) were all phenomenal. And I’m obsessed with their salsa. You can get straight forward Mexican or Mexican/Indian fusion. Yum!!!!!“
“We were pleasantly surprised with this place - good food, great drinks, wonderful service - what’s not to like! The food came out fast (in a very full restaurant on a Friday night, mind you!) and it was good. Unlike some other Mexican restaurants we’ve been to, the house margarita in this place is a very good one, not watered down and had a good bit of tequila in it - so if you want to relax with family or friends after work one night, this is the place to be, we certainly enjoyed it!“
“One of the best pupusas in town. Definitely worst a visit if your in the Germantown area. I stop bye any chance I get. It's funny how they're inside a beer and wine store. So you can pick up beer and pupusas or any other goodie's they make.“
“The sauces are yummy & I love that you can still get a high quality fast casual meal in Potomac for under $15. Corn tasted super fresh, steak was cooked perfectly tender. The rice bowls were very filling. I would definitely stop by again.“
“This place is fantastic and has been for two decades. I moved away from NoVa years ago but recently returned for a visit and this restaurant hasn't missed a beat. I cannot figure out how other reviewers say everything is great and leave 4 stars. Cannot go wrong with the steak fajitas and house margaritas.“
“Outstanding nachos! Perfect complement of cotija cheese and sautéed veggies. And the chips were robust enough to could keep up with my aggressive scoops. I’m 25 minutes from this place and I’d considered driving back just for another run at the nachos.“
“Visiting from out of state and found this gem. Good sized portions on their lunch menu for $9.99 + a small serving of chips while you wait for your food. Dine in without a waiter. We hope to come back before we leave. I'd be a regular if we lived nearby. Nice staff.Parking: Big parking lot in strip mall. Tons of free parking.“
“I love Anita's for Taco Tuesday. The server was kind enough to help me with my Spanish and deserves a raise. I had to explain to our server in Spanish that my friend, Emma Hammersley, was going to have a birthday and they immediately brought out a small dessert. The Taco salad is nicer than Wendy's and tacos were better than Taco Bell and Taco Bamba.Vegetarian options: BeansKid-friendliness: Children's menu“
“This location is great. The staff is always friendly but what happened to the vegetarian menu? Taco Bell is one of the only fast food chains that has always catered to vegetarians. Not only was the vegetarian menu gone but also the fiesta veggie burrito ???“
“Pretty good food. One of the better Mexican restaurants in the area. The Carnitas tacos were really good, as was the Pollo Veracruz. 5 stars for their hot suace. I'm talking about the stuff that came with my tacos and the habanero sauce you have to ask for. The salsa that's comes with the chips is really good too, not hot, but very flavorful.I'll be back. There are several other items on the menu I want to try.Parking: Plenty of parking in the lot between their building and the Wegmans or between Lazy Dog and Habit Burger.“
“At Anita's New Mexico Style Mexican Food, I savored the pork green chili burrito, a visual and flavorful delight. This mouthwatering creation featured a generous filling of succulent pork carnitas bathed in a tantalizing green chili sauce, crowned with an additional layer of the spicy green chili for an extra kick of flavor. The burrito's harmonious blend of tender meat and vibrant chili sauce left a lasting impression, thoroughly satisfying my taste buds. Accompanying this culinary masterpiece was a side of guacamole, boasting a chunky texture and made with the freshest ingredients. The guacamole's creamy richness complemented the bold flavors of the burrito, enhancing the overall dining experience. My visit to Anita's was a gastronomic journey filled with authentic New Mexico-style cuisine and impeccable flavors. I wholeheartedly enjoyed every bite and would eagerly recommend Anita's for a taste of...“
“The fish celantro stuff was fantastic! The beans were like a runny gravy. The garlic shrimp was served on the shell and very difficult to chew. The phone was in the booth behind me and kept ringing during the meal.I asked them to move it somewhere else, but I don’t think they know English.“
“Breakfast burritos (especially the Mr T & Chicharron) are excellent & I always love the BBQ Pork burrito platter. The salsa is one of my favourites anywhere, but it's better when dining in. The takeaway salsa is always more watery. Service is hit or miss, but I'm not really there for the service anyway.“
“This is the perfect, family-friendly restaurant with good food and good drinks! Some of the best fajitas I’ve ever had. The seasoning is what really makes this restaurant stand out- it’s unlike any other I’ve ever had at a Mexican place before. The salsa is also a standout. The owners will make you feel like family. I can’t say enough good things about this place!“
“Giving 4 stars because I had one of the absolute best steak quesadillas I’ve ever had here a week or two ago. I went back today but it seems they switched the meat and I am not sure how to feel about it… :( also there’s a blob of mayonnaise in place of sour cream. Maybe an off day?“
“Love that the servers are always welcoming & they all serve all tables. You dont have to wait for a specific server. Generous pours & fast service along with a great menu of options for food & drinks...especially if you like tequila!! Great local place!“
“Food here is excellent! The street corn has so much flavor! Love the mango salsa!! I got a baja bowl with chicken and black beans; my boyfriend got a chicken burrito. Both were very good! We ordered via Door Dash, but will definitely give the restaurant a try next time for sure. Highly recommend. Get the street corn!!“
“Wow! My experience at Chuys was simply outstanding. From the moment I walked in, I was greeted warmly by the staff, setting the tone for a fantastic dining experience. The ambiance was inviting and cozy, perfect for a delightful meal. Now, let's talk about the food – it was nothing short of spectacular. Each dish was crafted with precision and care, bursting with flavors that left my taste buds dancing with joy. From the appetizers to the desserts, every bite was a culinary delight. But what truly set Chuys apart was the exceptional service. 1522 Rachel was attentive, friendly, and knowledgeable, ensuring that my dining experience was nothing short of perfection. She went above and beyond to accommodate any special requests and made me feel like a valued guest throughout the entire meal. She is a straight g.Overall, I cannot recommend Chuys highly enough. If you're looking for delicious food, impeccable service, and a memorable dining experience, look no further. I will definitely be returning soon for another culinary adventure.“
“My family and I love this place. The food is great and enjoy the vegetarian options that aren't just loaded with cheese but lots of veggies and beans. My toddler kids also like eating here. Whenever we have friends in town we bring them here. The wait staff is so friendly and recognize us when we come in and away make us feel welcome. Looking forward to our next visit“
“Chuys is an excellent Tex-Mex restaurant with reasonable prices. Their servings are generous, often enough to be shared between two people unless one is particularly hungry. In addition to salsa, they offer complimentary dips for the chips listed on the menu. If you're interested, It's widely regarded as the top Tex-Mex spot in Washington D.C. and the surrounding area.“
“This is a time portal to 1984. This isn’t fine dining, it’s a little hole in the wall with amazing taco sauce, good Mexican food at an affordable price, nice carry out family style options, and friendly service.Kid-friendliness: They don’t give you any issue coming in with a kid.“
“The interior is very cool, sever was courteous. Service is quick. When it comes to the food itself: I'm on the fence. We ordered several appetizers and main dishes; we liked some and not others. Because it's an Indian Mexican fusion place, the Indian flavors over power any Mexican ones. So, it's up to the customer's taste.“
