Picture this: you’re a hard working blue collar man at the shipyard with $20 in your account that’s gotta stretch one more night. You want to forget the past week because your wife just served you with papers and threatened to take the kids. Your truck just threw a check engine light after you threw the entire autozone parts catalog at it. Your stomach starts to growl right as you pass a place literally called $5 Pizza. You think it’s too good to be true but you pull in, and lo and behold these pizza wizards will feed you a cheese pizza for $5. You realize that you CAN afford to throw yourself a pity party tonight and relive your college days. You then swing by the gas station nearby for 6 tallboy beers because they’re on sale. You go home expecting a reheated frozen pizza and you take one bite and realize you’ve been served the best deal in Hampton Roads. The cheese is astoundingly cheesy and the crust has a rich melt-in-your-mouth feel. For a second you’re thrown back to your days before you drop out of the state college you were pressured to go to, just hanging with the boys on a budget with cheap beer and cheap pizza from Little Ceasar’s. But reality smacks you in the face and you realize that was 10 years ago and the Hot and Ready now costs $9. You read the divorce papers but those can wait. You enjoy your $5 pizza and drink your beer. Because you realize that in a world full of bitter exes who try to take your kids and full of pizza companies that have forgotten the working men of America, you realize that one place quietly on the border of Newport News and Hampton has not forgotten you at all. In fact they embrace you and fill your stomach with quality food at a great price.

And that place is called $5 Pizza.

“I have to give the biggest shoutout to Mama Rosa’s Italian Family Restaurant They deserve 100 stars. We held a private gathering there on March 9, 2026, after a funeral, and they treated our entire family with so much love and care. Anthony was amazing from start to finish, staying in contact, checking in, and making sure everything went smoothly. The whole family and staff were just as kind, welcoming, and attentive. We had over 75 people, and everyone raved about the food (which was delicious!) and the service. They truly went above and beyond for us. After the event, a few of us stayed and talked with their Nona (Mima). She is one of the warmest, sweetest souls I’ve ever met. We shared stories and hugs, and it meant so much. Mama Rosa’s is a treasure. If you’re thinking about going — GO! Don’t think twice.“

“I consider myself well traveled when it comes to pizza. My first job was at a small pizzeria making the pizzas from scratch. I've tried pizza abroad in more than 15 countries. I can say this may be the best pizza I've ever had.

Pizza is a balance between toppings, crust and sauce. Very few places get two of those right. Gus's gets all of them right. The toppings that are best crispy were perfect, the sauce was balanced and tasty, the dough/crust was very good (I don't love bread so very good is high praise from me).

I'm upset I didn't know about Gus's sooner. I might've eaten every night while I was in Hampton. I cannot more highly recommend this restaurant.“

We have tried multiple pizzerias and none of them stood out to us until we tried Anna's! We ordered the Biana Pizza and the Fire Pizza. Both were amazing and so fresh! We ordered take-out and the pizza was still hot and delicious when we got home. We will definitely be back and highly recommend!“

“The food was great. There were lots of plant based options. My husband claims it was the best vegan pizza he's had. I enjoyed my chicken bacon ranch. Overall the quality of the food did not disappoint, even though it was a long wait (30 min). Despite the place being short staffed, the service did not suffer for it. Can't say the same about most other places. Pretty sure the girl who took our order also made the food. She was super nice and I'd give her personally 5 stars just for doing so much.
The only thing that could have made the experience better would be some music. While waiting, the dining area was silent. I don't know if it wasn't working, but music would have been a nice distraction. I'm used to most restaurants having some type of playlist to listen to.“

“Was craving Mod Pizza tonight and stopped in at the one at 2878 Kilgore Ave. Hampton, VA. The restaurant was clean and the service was great. Carter was the guy who made our pizzas and he greeted us politely and explained the garlic rub when I asked what that was. I prefer a pizza without red sauce so when he explained that it was chopped garlic mixed with olive oil I was sold. He mentioned it was his favorite as well. He went over the available toppings in detail as I asked about them. The entire experience was fantastic. You have a great employee and it's worth mentioning. It's rare these days to go into any food establishment and get that kind of service. Thank you Carter for making our night out a great experience.“

“I called my order in and was told 30-35 minutes wait time. When I arrived my pizzas had just come out of the oven.
I went to where I was visiting and we had pizza for dinner. Both pizzas were delicious. They were cooked perfectly and the different crusts we had ordered were done just right. I was close enough the pizzas were still hot adding to the good experience I had.
One pizza was pepperoni which in generous portions. The other was pepperoni and green onions. They were in generous quantity as well.
I will not hesitate to eat Domino's Pizza from this location again.

“i gave a person here a hundred dollar bill without knowing they shouldn’t take those. he gave me fully accurate change back after telling me he wasn’t sure if he had it in his car. I called this papa John’s and they had me 10 pizzas ready in about 20 minutes. I couldn’t believe it they saved the day.
