“Pro Life Tip: when you see a line coming out the front door of a business - GET IN LINE! I was in Eastshore (from Nebraska) to purchase some coffee roasters from a local seller. I had some time to kill before my ferry back to the mainland left, so was walking around the cool downtown of Eastshore. My attention was drawn to a line of humanity spilling out the front door of one business and out onto the sidewalk. A quick Google told me it was a bakery and so I did the most sensible thing and JOINED THE LINE. When I got inside I was delighted to see Kouign Amann at the front of the pastry case. I had only recently learned of this demanding, difficult to make pastry and it was ALL I WANTED. A short wait later one was in my bag/Crumb Catcher! Here it is a week and a half later and i’m STILL THINKING ABOUT IT and writing this review. It was a-MAY-zing and I have little doubt that ANYTHING you choose will be just as memorable. These guys could probably FRANCHISE their knowledge & processes in places like Aspen, Park City, Jackson Hole, etc. - but then again, maybe not. Maybe you need the passion of two classically trained pastry chefs, in their own little wonderful corner of the world (Orcas Island, WA). In any event, if you find yourself on the island, you MUST make Brown Bear Bakery a stop. You will NOT regret it. How ANYONE could give this place ANYTHING less than 5 FULL STARS boggles the imagination.“

“My sister and I both ordered chai tea lattes. They were served in glass mugs and never cooled down. We drank very little since it was so hot, but what we did drink was a little watery. Disappointing. But what wasn’t disappointing was the breakfast wraps. These are huge and stuffed with flavor. We easily could have just shared one and still left full.“

“Amazing place to stop in and have a great time. This place has a really good selection of beer, wine, and cider. The service is second to none. The atmosphere is very laid back, with lots of locals to strike up a conversation with. Please help support local small businesses like IHB. Stop in and say hello to Tyler, you will be glad you did.“

“This is absolute gem on the island. I’ve been to Orcas many times, but only got a chance to visit the winery twice. And every time it was a highlight of the trip.
The owner is the most wonderful host. And the property is very serene and beautiful. You can recline in a chair, have a sip of wine, and relax in a way that is hard to match.
Some reviews mentioned limited food options or other minor inconveniences. Relax, everyone! It’s important to be able to see and appreciate this place for what it is. You’re in for a treat.
Highly recommended and most definitely going to be back.“

“I thought the pulled pork was super good! And I’ll go back for the mac n cheese any time - yum! My husband is a fan of their brisket and he even he had enough to have left overs for breakfast too. Yikes Matthew! Next time we’ll branch out with other menu items, though it’ll be difficult to leave such good ones in the kitchen! My only problem is we don’t get to Orcas often enough to enjoy this tasty place!“

“I love Medio, from the high quality food and drinks to the atmosphere. Their matcha is amazing and so are their other specialty drinks which are fun and delicious. Try the kimbap, chorizo burrito, or any of their baked goods, you won’t regret it. The cafe space is amazing for San Juan. There are very few places were you can hang out on island and these guys have it going on with the vibe they’re setting up, from the decorations to the variety of nooks. There’s a fantastic fireplace and some adorable options for kids. Really great spot. I recommend it to local friends and visitors.“

“Wonderful feel to the place. I'm 81, just moved on-Island. Wife asleep from COVID vaccine reaction. No food in the house (recently moved here). Had seen their ads about "best hamburger on Orcas" and -- at 8:45p -- decided, "Why not?" Great decision. Absolutely cooked medium rare. Wonderful waitress -- very easy-going. Likely to become a regular dinner place for us. Highly recommend.“
