The kind of place only locals in the hood know about and frequent, far from the center of commerce, but quaint enough to be the epicenter of town. The food is super fresh. Wide selection of traditional Thai fare done well. So good we came twice over the weekend. So glad to see places like this with personality and taste. 70s Thai Film Posters and Patrick Nagel’s Rio. “The food was beyond amazing. Very flavorful and prepared to order so it’s guaranteed fresh! I loved the atmosphere inside, jazz music and ambient lighting really ties the place together. “This restaurant is popping! I came on a Saturday night and it was completely full with 4 parties ahead of me, but I was seated in around 35 minutes.
I ordered the mama pot and the flavor was rich, spicy, and deep. Sort of a tom yum taste but heavier and creamier. The Pad See Ew and Pad Thai were very flavorful as well. The mango sticky rice was sweet and tasty, and the papaya salad was crunchy just the way I like it.
A couple things to pick on: the crispy pork was really dry and I had to keep it submerged in the soup to soften it up. The service can also be hard to flag down due to how busy it gets, but that’s more a matter of suffering from success lol.

“We spent a long weekend in Pasadena and at first chose this Thai place because it was just 5min walking from our rental cottage. They greeted us so friendly and accommodated our requests for items on the side. Then, the next day we came back here because everything was so flavorful! My husband had the crispy sole fish special and I enjoyed the glass noodles with shrimp. Exquisite!

“Everything was great especially the food. I often order pad see ew at the places I go. It was exceptionally good. The chicken meat was excellent and I will order it that way again. Today on my second visit I’m trying the special curry with the chicken. It smells great and I’m ready to dive in. Thai tea is also good. Not overly sweet and no bite. This is my new go to Thai place.“

“The best Thai food at the best prices in LA. They actually give a good portion here compared to most places around AND it tastes the best. They're also open late for us night owls. We came here with the red dinning book 📕. Got two entrees and an appetizer for 2 people, koi soi, tiger prawn curry and raw scallops. The koi soi is actually a pasta, so it was quite a surprise to me, there is no soup in the dish. The curry in the tiger prawn dish is full with prawn roe sauce, very rich.

“This is my OG favorite Thai spot starting way back in 2007 when I moved to Pasadena! I recently went back to give it another try and it's as good as I remember, prices are now considered reasonable and even good especially the lunch specials, and everything still tastes fresh and high quality. Even some of the servers are still some of the original servers from 2007! They said they love working there. The inside is unique, used to be a wall of empty frames but they made it a bit more artsy but definitely eclectic! They also have if you dishes that are not straight tie but Singaporean or Malaysian. A lunch special for two and both of us getting one iced coffee and one Thai tea came out to a whopping ;-) $40. I think that's super reasonable for high quality Thai food and the drinks added $10. “Food here is pretty good, esp since it's in Monrovia. The service is friendly but there's a tendency to not look my way. The parking is okay, as the place share a lot with at least 4 other eateries, sometimes it's kinda hard to find a spot. The atmosphere is just okay, a tad too crowded and too loud. It's not for a date night but pretty decent for a simple dinner out.“

“Came here to try a new Thai spot after going to President Thai down the street for years and wanting something different. We ordered from the dinner menu, which comes with soup or salad, egg rolls or wontons, and white rice or shrimp fried rice, a great value.

I got the chicken pad Thai and everything was so flavorful and delicious. My boyfriend ordered the yellow curry and it was absolutely amazing, rich and creamy with a coconut base that honestly reminded me of my mom’s Vietnamese curry.

The owner was also incredibly kind and made sure we were well taken care of throughout the meal. Such a welcoming experience. We’ll definitely be back soon!“

“The San Gabriel location closed and now I have to drive to Monterey Park. So glad it tastes the same because this place is deliciously delicious. The spicy fried rice is devilishly delectable because of the heat and combined with the pineapple curry it's damn near damning. Screw Flanders.“

“This place is an absolute gem. Best thai food I've had in years. It may be the best Thai restaurant in LA in my humble opinion. Their green curry is as good as it gets. The eggplant in it was the best eggplant I've had in my life and I don't even like eggplants. I love eggplants now. Kad kee mao(?) is a tad bit spicy but nothing over the top. It's so flavorful and cooked to perfection. It's basically pad see yew on crack. Their crispy pork has the best balance between crispy and tender. I hesitated to leave this review because almost don't want this place to get too well-known so it doesn't get crowded but I also don't want them to ever go out of business. That would seriously break my heart.“

Somtam is fresh, crunchy and seasoned as spicy as you can handle; the BBQ chicken (gai yang) & BBQ pork (mu ping) are super savory and juicy (and conveniently served on sticks)..be sure to ask for sticky rice with that! Missed out on the kanomkrok but will save that treat for my next visit. Super arroy di mak-mak!“
