Chatted with the person behind the counter for a bit and he was so nice and gave me a bit of the history as to why there are more and more yemeni cafes popping up (I lived here many years ago and was back to visit). He recommended the chai over the house latte and it was a solid one. They make it on the spot so it’s literally boiling hot. I had it to-go and part of me thought the cup was going to melt and hello microplastic! If any that’s the only thing for me, not a criticism per se, but it took 20 mins for it to cool down enough to take a sip. Delicious though! Lots of people working with their laptops, and some mingling. Seems like it is a neighborhood hub.“

“Beautiful sunny, quiet cafe in Adam’s point. The best Ethiopian food I’ve ever had. The food tastes very healthy, fresh, and simple but literally so full of flavor at the same time. Home cooking made with time and care. Just SO good. If you are thinking about going just go. Wow. And the injera is 100% teff and gluten free which can be hard to find these days. “A few nice touches we noticed... didn't realize downtown would be so busy, really busy, but we were greeted pretty quickly and shown to our dinner table. Seating was warm and comfy on a chilly night. The server brought water with a back up bottle, which we love. The menu was not huge, but has a nice assortment of items, small & larger plates with a small, but thoughtful wine list and a full bar. Farhaad, the manager served us and was upbeat friendly and outgoing, we could tell he has hands on experience. The food was quite good, not overly huge portions but that left room for dessert! Very good selections. We ordered decaf which came piping hot and in a good size coffee cup, great flavor. The ambiance was quite nice, old black & white movies playing on the muted tv behind the bar, nice genre of dinner music playing, nothing loud and crazy, more relaxing and current. Nice decor, mid tones to light. There's a nice looking outdoor patio as well, but it was very chilly so we stayed inside. Looking forward to returning and adding Aracely into our restaurant rotation. Pleasantly surprised!“

We grabbed a sunny table outside, soaking in the morning light and each other’s company, while sipping lattes topped with delightful foam art. Warm, bright, and full of life, the Mother Tongue was inviting and cheerful, with wonderfully friendly staff. It was a lovely, and simple, a great and sweet experience.“

“Ten of us in Oakland for a wedding just descended on this suggested cafe for breakfast. A family member who’d lived in Oakland recommended it. She was right to. Our server was absolutely fantastic. She was prompt, had a wonderful attitude and a genuine personality. Our breakfast orders were varied, came out accurate and all of us enjoyed a great 40 mins or so. Parking was easy and pretty much right out front. Definitely recommend the Coffee Mill for a no frills authentic breakfast experience where you feel welcome.“

“We visited Alameda in April to attend a celebration of life for a family member that we lost suddenly. Our family was in town from all over the country, and we found Cafe Jolie Petit near our hotel. They took such great care of us, fed us meals on three or four consecutive days, and we could not have asked for better service or food during an emotional time. Pastries (Koiugn Amann!), Monte Cristo, and the coffee bar were our favorites, but everything we had was delicious. We hope to be back for happier circumstances at some point, and definitely will return!“

Wonderful family run cafe. Popular with many Glenview elementary families in the mornings before school. Excellent selection of coffees, teas and breakfast pastries and bagels. Great to sit inside or outside. And nice spot to get some work done. Customer service is personal and so kind. As we are regulars, they recognize our son, and they always say hello to him.

Parking: Street parking on Park Blvd varies. Sometimes easy to get a spot in the morning if needed, sometimes a bit challenging later in the day.

“Loved my birthday dinner tonight! Portions small for the prices in our opinion. A scallops main dish with 3 scallops is small. Drinks were amazing, decor fabulous and great service. My son had to go eat more food afterwards as he was still hungry. Bigger portions would be good. Loved everything else! Great choices, appetizers, main dishes and creative drinks were delicious. Kind of surprised knowing they knew it was my birthday that they didn't offer me a birthday "something" to make it special. For these prices I would expect something.“
