“The chai and Danish at Mohka House are absolutely incredible. It’s not even just about how blessed we are to have this kind of authentic cultural influence right here in Oakland—it’s the kind of spot where the customer service makes the experience just as special. The staff are down-to-earth and genuinely family-friendly, the kind of people who make you feel at home the moment you walk in.
If you haven’t been yet, you’re truly missing out on one of the most special places you can treat yourself or bring a loved one. A real gem💎“

“First time here and loved it! The chicken wrap was so good. Staff were friendly and even gave us cheesecake while we waited — really nice of them. The space is cozy, perfect for hanging out. Food is fresh, drinks are not too sweet — just right. I’ll be back for sure!“

“Got a Turkish coffee and it did not disappointed. Slower brewed coffee is always the best, made with love and care. Super fresh and super flavorful. Cardamom in coffee is just chef’s kiss, always. Got a chocolate croissant that I devoured in seconds.“

“Kudos to the crew at Thornhill Cafe. Thank you for always taking good care of me. I love your green smoothies. They're refreshing and just make you feel good and your breakfast bagels are awesome. It's my favorite place to stop when I'm working in the hills of Oakland. Doesn't seem to matter how many people are in there. You still get us in and out in no time. You're the best!!“
“So excited to have another coffee shop in the area that isn’t Starbucks. I got the seasonal pumpkin spice iced latte and it’s delicious—i was worried it might be too sweet but it’s perfectly balanced and strong!!!! excited to have this in the neighborhood :)“

“The food here is absolutely amazing. Best Ethiopian overall ive ever had. Their collard greens and green lentil dish are both seriously the best ive ever had for those dishes in Ethiopian cuisine. Everything else is still show stopping. When we first went here, there was a dish with red sauce and I wasn't a huge fan - but i also am personally not a dark meaty-taste sauce person, and all the dishes here have otherwise been amazing. Even the sambusas are great! They could use a little more variety, maybe served with the green lentil dish as a side even or with a sauce- but even by themselves are amazing. Long story short, Desta is a must visit!“

“Excellent place to get breakfast or sandwich and a coffee. Small, efficient, friendly, delicious, and well priced! As of December 2023 a sausage egg and cheese croissant is still just $5.45, when donut shops are charging up to $7/8 for the same thing.“
“Ordered the matcha and mocha, both were perfectly made. Delicious pastries as well!
The owner was so kind and a few regulars stopped by and you can tell they love the place.
Beautiful plants and nice atmosphere, will definitely be coming back!“

“Mother Tongue Coffee Roasters is one of those rare finds that feels both approachable and extraordinary at the same time. From the moment you step in, the space carries an artistic, community-focused vibe that immediately sets it apart from your typical coffee shop. It’s warm, welcoming, and filled with the comforting aroma of freshly roasted beans.
What truly makes Mother Tongue shine is their dedication to sourcing and roasting coffee with care. Every cup feels intentional. I tried both their pour-over and a flat white on separate visits, and each drink highlighted the unique flavor profiles of their beans—bright, complex, and beautifully balanced. Their single-origin options are especially impressive, showcasing the diversity of regions and farms they partner with. It’s coffee that not only tastes amazing but also tells a story.
The staff is equally memorable. They’re passionate, approachable, and eager to share their knowledge without being pretentious. Whether you’re a casual coffee drinker or someone who loves diving into the details of origin and process, they make the experience enjoyable and engaging.
Another thing I love about Mother Tongue is their commitment to inclusivity and community. It’s not just about serving coffee—it’s about creating a space where people feel connected and inspired. Between the exceptional drinks, the thoughtful mission, and the friendly atmosphere, Mother Tongue Coffee Roasters is a place you’ll want to return to again and again.“

“♿️Cafe has a wheelchair accessible seating, entrance and toilet. Seating available outside in front of the cafe, in the cafe and in the back patio .
Wonderful family run cafe. Popular with many Glenview elementary families in the mornings before school. Excellent selection of coffees, teas and breakfast pastries and bagels. Great to sit inside or outside. And nice spot to get some work done. Customer service is personal and so kind. As we are regulars, they recognize our son, and they always say hello to him.
Parking: Street parking on Park Blvd varies. Sometimes easy to get a spot in the morning if needed, sometimes a bit challenging later in the day.
Kid-friendliness: Very welcoming
Wheelchair accessibility: Wheelchair accessible entrance, seating and restroom“
“I have only been here twice during the day but, so far but each time the food was absolutely the best I have had in Danville. The ingredients are imaginative and exceptionally tasty. What I also appreciate is that the chef’s menu changes which makes it exciting. The exterior is not much and could be improved, but that may keep the crowds away for a while which makes it easier for me to look forward to bringing friends and enjoying a charming meal!!!!“

“We visited Alameda in April to attend a celebration of life for a family member that we lost suddenly. Our family was in town from all over the country, and we found Cafe Jolie Petit near our hotel. They took such great care of us, fed us meals on three or four consecutive days, and we could not have asked for better service or food during an emotional time. Pastries (Koiugn Amann!), Monte Cristo, and the coffee bar were our favorites, but everything we had was delicious. We hope to be back for happier circumstances at some point, and definitely will return!“

“Amazing food!! Hands down the best toasts in the entire Bay Area and great coffee too! We ordered avocado toast and salmon toast - both were delicious, extremely fresh and great presentation! Delicious juice too, although the consistency was more of a lemonade, but nevertheless very refreshing and yummy. They also have mimosas and champagne-based coctails, along with berry oats, as an alternative to a toast in the morning - both of which are definitely on my list to try next.
Also very cute ambience and views from the cafe - will be back to this place very often!“
“They have unique drinks that all look delicious and taste equally good. We had a pound cake that was a tad bit dry but had very nice flavor. The bacon jalapeño sandwich was bomb. The sweet and savory toast was good but wish the sweet option was toasted as well. We sat out side on a perfect day and the patio was nice but the benches were uncomfortable. Overall an awesome spot. Will definitely come back to keep trying their creative menu.“

“I wanted matcha but they didn't have any at the time and recommended hojicha, oh my gosh it was so good. I will be trying hojicha wherever I can find it now. I also tried the smores cake roll, it was super sweet but that's what I like so it was amazing. The chocolate chip cookie was a little on the salty side for my taste. Breakfast sandwich was good.“

“Dalgona coffee and flan coffee
Both were great. Both I would come back for. Both I would order again as long as they keep the quality consistent.
Regular sweetness on the Dalgona, and 60% on the coffee flan was the way to go.
If I stop returning, because they changed then recipe. Please don’t! THANKS!!!
See u next time“

“Ten of us in Oakland for a wedding just descended on this suggested cafe for breakfast. A family member who’d lived in Oakland recommended it. She was right to. Our server was absolutely fantastic. She was prompt, had a wonderful attitude and a genuine personality. Our breakfast orders were varied, came out accurate and all of us enjoyed a great 40 mins or so. Parking was easy and pretty much right out front. Definitely recommend the Coffee Mill for a no frills authentic breakfast experience where you feel welcome.“

“This tea garden is a charming place with a peaceful atmosphere. I ordered a sustainably sourced tea and the pot was beautifully presented on a quirky display stand - a real delight! The salmon toast was rich and flavourful and clearly made with high quality ingredients. However, compared to other fair trade options nearby, I enjoyed my visit and would happily return for a special treat!“

“This is an excellent family run coffee house with good food offerings from sweet to savory—bagels as well. Beautiful patio with plenty of seating including inside and right in front; something for everyone. The coffee is the real deal—regular brew or personal request. 👍💯❣️. Live music on Saturdays. Flowers. Room for bike parking. Dog bowls. They thought of everything—I’m a fan. See for yourself! You won’t be sorry.“

“If you're a tea-a-holic or simply in the mood for some truly great tea this is the place for you. All the variety you could ask for and then some and the nicest welcoming owner who is happy to share her without a doubt professional experience and knowledge of tea and everything related to it. And did I mention the ambiance? Classical music, lovely decor and absolutely a delightful experience overall. We had a wonderful time, thank you "Sophie's Cuppa Tea".“

“Loved my birthday dinner tonight! Portions small for the prices in our opinion. A scallops main dish with 3 scallops is small. Drinks were amazing, decor fabulous and great service. My son had to go eat more food afterwards as he was still hungry. Bigger portions would be good. Loved everything else! Great choices, appetizers, main dishes and creative drinks were delicious. Kind of surprised knowing they knew it was my birthday that they didn't offer me a birthday "something" to make it special. For these prices I would expect something.“

“Major success story for overcoming issues in your life. I have nothing but respect for you there. I have been aware with you on your involvement with Survivor. I would like to this opportunity to show forgiveness for the antics and how you put Matthew Von Ertfelda down. There is no judgment here. I now know Survivor is only a tv show and the producers were the main culprits who pushed this feud triggered by a negative environment where it was hard to take care of yourselves. Have you in my prayers where you would be prudent on what you say about Matthew. I don’t want you suffer bad karma like what happened to Rob Cesternino in the All Stars season. All the best.“

“A bit slow and pricey. I wish they cooked the eggs differently for the bagel sandwiches. I am not sure if they are using powdered eggs, but the way they prepare them in thin folded sheets makes them dry and unpleasant. Bacon was also shredded and dry. The sausage was great though, and the quality of the bagels are good.“
“Cool drinks, yummy baked goods, awesome staff, sweet vibe. A real neighborhood joint with lots of great choices, including not just bona fide Vietnamese phin coffee, but also vegan and caffeine-free options. They also have boba, pudding, and jelly add-ins, with coconut, pandan, ube, and black sesame items. Just do it :)“

“All I gotta say is the younger guy Luis with the glasses and short curly hair has 100% customer service, went there today with a long line and was short one of my drinks, usually the rude girl there gives attitude and says you gotta go around and wait again. Left happy as hell that I got my drinks and customer service!“
