“It was cold out, the wind was coming off the bay and it was a damp wind, the kind that goes all the way down to your bones and make you think of having pot roast or a hearty stew for lunch....But no....she wants a salad....a salad, I said! A damn salad! Take this exit, she pouts out...we'll go to MoBowl and get a salad, they're the best in the area! You'll like it she said.
So when it's cold out, and you have your heart set on pot roast, and she says...it's salad! It's gotta be MoBowl.

Great quality, flavor, and good presentation on food. Highly recommend their salsa verde on just about anything. Superb. My favorite: Chilaquiles with ham, verde sauce. You won’t regret it.

“An absolute SF classic that lives up to the hype! The English cut prime rib was perfectly aged, tender, and juicy, spun tableside from the silver dome cart—pure theater. Loved the Yorkshire pudding, creamed spinach, and that massive baked potato. Cocktails are strong and old-school. The retro vibe with white tablecloths feels like stepping back in time. Reservations essential, but it's worth it for a special occasion meat-lover's feast.“

You could feel the love for California and Mexican heritage from the decor to the the ingredients to the serving dishes. The service was well-paced and the food was amazing and unique. “the older lady is extremely rude. we were looking at the menu and told her we needed more time to order. and as she was walking away she said “oh my god. what are you reading? a bible?”. shes rude every time we come in, no manners and always slamming stuff on the table. dont get a job in customer service if you have an attitude 24/7.

“Lovely meal, beautiful in the plate and palate and attentive, but not intrusive, staff. The star left off for ambience is for the cold breeze that hit us every time the door opened and the (ahem) nonfunctioning toilet (which staff was alerted to and prepared to address).“

“We arrived at 4:50pm on a rainy Sunday and waited ~45mins to get seated (group of 3). The restaurant’s capacity can accommodate 28 guests and they were very efficient with their process (i.e. they took note of group size in line, made sure people reviewed the menu before getting seated, and they had an one-hour limit). Our service was quick. We had both the signature and spicy versions of Tori Paitan, and spicy lamb ramen. Also an order of their seasonal Hokkaido uni and A5 wagyu hand roll. The broth of all 3 ramens was rich, full of umami. Spice added more to the flavor but almost non-existent on the heat front. Chashu was a great balance of fatty part and meat. The fried shaved carrots and eggplant in the lamb ramen were such a pleasant touch to the bowl of perfectly chewy ramen. The A5 wagyu was buttery and melted in your mouth good. Uni was just okay - I had higher expectations with Hokkaido uni. The sushi rice was a bit on the dry side as well. All being said, I’d still say this is a place I would return.“

The food was excellent - we shared several vegetarian dishes that we enjoyed, however, the one non vegetarian dish we had (the octopus) was pungent and tough. Unfortunately, our server didn't check back with us to ensure we were satisfied with our selections. Even so, our experience was overall good, but with more attentive service, it could have been great.“

Had we known that the pad kee mao didn't come with tofu we would have asked for it, so next time we will, but that's nitpicking. Very fast service, noticeably so. Location great for those in San Mateo or Foster City (and this restaurant is much better in my mind than Sweet Basil, I'm sorry). The pad kee mao dish was huge and we had to take home half of each plate (we got two, next time one will be enough, but we took it home and plan to enjoy later)“
