“I can’t speak highly enough. Eat a red dragon roll or any roll from here and tell me it’s not the best sushi you’ve ever had. You don’t need soy sauce, eel sauce, the flavors in the prep and nobody does it better. They could slap me in the face every time I ordered and I’d still come back, say thank you and give this place 5 stars. What an absolute game changer.“

“Very nice date I had w my husband. We both enjoyed and loved it here, we both said this will be our to go place for sushi. You get soup and a salad to start with I believe that's part of the service because we didn't order it lol so u do get what you pay for. Good portions and a very good place to go to. Nice and quiet just how we like it for a dinner date so we are able to talk and have conversations but not to quiet as well.“

“4 of us came here for lunch to celebrate our coworker's birthday. Surprised to find we were the only ones there. Most of us opted for 3 item combo - the soup was ok, tofu tasted a bit weird, salad was good, the sushi I got were delicious and filling, the tempura was tasty too albeit greasy. Service was minimal and we were the only ones there, we had to ring the bell a couple of times for service. The place itself is outdated and could use some sprucing up. The table felt sticky and bench didn't have much support for the backside“

Sauce is a perfect texture, veggies are always perfectly steamed, portions are amazing. I was so glad to see that this place survived Covid.“

We’ve been going here for years and I always get the cold udon gomuku. It comes with lettuce, shrimp tempura, julienne cucumbers, fish cake, marinated mushrooms, seaweed, and the yummiest sauce. Their fried chicken and calamari are good too. We’ve also had the udon soup and rice bowl combos. Haven’t tried the bento boxed or sushi. Really, we just come here for the udon fix. The waitstaff are always friendly with great service. It’s a small joint in a strip mall but it’s been around forever and is doing something right!“

“Small & family owned. The food tastes great and the prices are very reasonable. The owners are there 6 days out of the week from opening to closing. Do not go there expecting a 5-star fine dining experience, but if you want to support a hard working small mom-and-pop owned restaurant with great quality foods and welcoming atmosphere, it's totally worth a try!“

“Sumo sushi is one of our favorite places to go for dinner. We go for dates and we take our kids. The food is exceptional and the staff is so friendly and welcoming. The kids have spilled drinks and the staff is never bothered and so sweet about helping us clean it up. Danny (one of the sushi chefs) is personable and interactive!

I have eaten sushi at almost the majority of places in Thousand oaks area (not to mention in every city I visit) and this is a top notch place even though its a small place. “Moved to Vegas 25 years ago. Miss 3 things about Oxnard - Family, the beach and Otani’s. Been fortunate to eat in some of the best restaurants in the U.S. I would choose Otani’s Fried Teriyaki Snapper with double rice over any other meal that’s out there. Otani’s was a staple for me growing up and had the fortune of knowing the family. Crave it constantly and go there every day whenever I make it back to town.“
