“Let me tell you this place is great!!!! My husband wanted to find a his sushi place and were hesitant at first becuz, the place on the outside isn’t all that, but Don’t let that fool you!! I tried the lobster roll and my husband had the calamari roll.. It was to die for! I recommend this place highly for all to try! Everyone is very sweet and pleasant and made our first time a great experience.. Will be our new to go place!!“

“I can’t speak highly enough. Eat a red dragon roll or any roll from here and tell me it’s not the best sushi you’ve ever had. You don’t need soy sauce, eel sauce, the flavors in the prep and nobody does it better. I liked the vegetables and eggs in it but the ramen noodles were not the authentic Japanese ramen. Unfortunately, it tasted more like ramen from a pack of top ramen noodles. I still recommend this restaurant and will go back to eat there again.“

“4 of us came here for lunch to celebrate our coworker's birthday. Surprised to find we were the only ones there. Most of us opted for 3 item combo - the soup was ok, tofu tasted a bit weird, salad was good, the sushi I got were delicious and filling, the tempura was tasty too albeit greasy. Service was minimal and we were the only ones there, we had to ring the bell a couple of times for service. The place itself is outdated and could use some sprucing up. The table felt sticky and bench didn't have much support for the backside“

Sauce is a perfect texture, veggies are always perfectly steamed, portions are amazing. I was so glad to see that this place survived Covid.“

We’ve been going here for years and I always get the cold udon gomuku. It comes with lettuce, shrimp tempura, julienne cucumbers, fish cake, marinated mushrooms, seaweed, and the yummiest sauce. Their fried chicken and calamari are good too. We’ve also had the udon soup and rice bowl combos. Haven’t tried the bento boxed or sushi. Really, we just come here for the udon fix. The waitstaff are always friendly with great service. It’s a small joint in a strip mall but it’s been around forever and is doing something right!“

“I’ve been going to Sumo Sushi in Newbury Park for well over 18 years, typically on a weekly or biweekly basis, and I can confidently say it has been one of the most consistently good restaurants in the area.

Over all those years, whether dining in or ordering takeout, I have never had a significant issue with the food, service, or quality. The staff has always been friendly and attentive, the food is consistently fresh, and my orders have been prepared correctly. There’s a reason I have continued coming back for nearly two decades.

I’ve noticed some recent negative reviews that appear to involve orders placed through third-party food delivery services. I think it’s important to distinguish between an issue with the restaurant and an issue that occurs after the food leaves the restaurant. Delivery delays, handling, missing items after pickup, or food arriving cold can involve the delivery service and driver and are not necessarily a reflection of the restaurant itself.

Based on 18+ years of firsthand experience, Sumo Sushi has earned my trust. Restaurants can have an occasional off day, but consistency over nearly two decades says far more to me than a handful of negative delivery-related reviews. Sumo Sushi continues to be one of my go-to restaurants in Newbury Park, and I highly recommend giving them a try—especially dining in and experiencing the food and service firsthand.“

“Small & family owned. The food tastes great and the prices are very reasonable. The owners are there 6 days out of the week from opening to closing. Do not go there expecting a 5-star fine dining experience, but if you want to support a hard working small mom-and-pop owned restaurant with great quality foods and welcoming atmosphere, it's totally worth a try!“

“Moved to Vegas 25 years ago. Miss 3 things about Oxnard - Family, the beach and Otani’s. Been fortunate to eat in some of the best restaurants in the U.S. I would choose Otani’s Fried Teriyaki Snapper with double rice over any other meal that’s out there. “This is probably the best sushi in the conejo valley. It is sooooo good!!!!! Amazing food, amazing staff and phenomenal chefs. We came in as a party of 6, the restaurant was packed and they put together a table for us in just a few minutes. Everyone was so nice, the chef had great recommendations and even came to check on us and see if we liked everything. I can’t say enough good things about this place and have been craving it ever since!! 10/10“

“I was in a mood for some rolls and saw that this place was the closest to where I live and it had positive reviews. I ordered a couple of rolls and they were delicious. It also helped that the order arrived at a quick pace.
