“We went to Surmai yesterday and honestly, the food was fabulous. We tried the prawn thali, the special thali, and the paplet thali, and every single dish hit the mark. We ended up so full we could barely move, but in the best way possible.

Chef Sheetal came by our table and was so warm and welcoming, it made the whole experience even better. You can tell there’s real care that goes into the food here.

Went here with no expectations, after all its just a quick grab restaurant inside a shopping mall. And, they delighted me with a pleasant surprise. We ordered Paneer biriyani and paneer manchurian. And OMG it was one of the best interms of making it taste like home but yummy. The balance is what's amazing..usually restaurant food is oily and heavy. This was so different, it was light, less oily, natural and very tasty. Food came super fast and was really really good. Id love to visit again when I am back in town.“

“This is hands down one of the best North Indian buffet places in the Bay Area! With stylish interiors and a warm, inviting ambiance, this place is definitely not to be missed.

I visited during lunch with a few friends, and we were wowed by the variety of food options. The naan was served fresh, and everything we tried tasted really good.

I also catered food from them for my spouse’s 50th birthday party, and the food was a huge hit with all our guests. Everything was delivered on time and tasted perfect.

For appetizers, we ordered Dahi Bhalla, Achaari Paneer, and Gobi Manchurian. For the main course, we had Chana Masala, Butter Chicken, and Paneer Lababdar, along with Naan and Lachcha Paratha. We also ordered Moong Dal Halwa for dessert.

The Dahi Bhalla was a super hit! Several guests said it was hands down the best Dahi Bhalla they had ever had at a restaurant. All the other dishes were equally delicious and received lots of compliments.

Overall, whether you’re looking for a great North Indian buffet or catering for a party, I highly recommend this place. We will definitely be ordering from them again!“

We went for lunch on a Saturday, it's at the corner of Dana and Hope streets with parking on Hope and a city lot nearby.

It's a cozy clean table setup with more tables in a back room available. The menu may be limited compared to other places but it has all our favorites. We got the Garlic Naan, Lamb Curry and Chicken Tikka Masala; both spicy. The food took some time to bring out. Both curries were flavorfully spiced with generous amounts of protein and good heat. My Lamb was tender with no bones.

Yet another great Indian restaurant in MTV. We sat next to the kitchen and heard a lot of loud chopping. Good service, value, flavor and portions. Definitely repeatable.“

“The spot has yummy large dosas. I visited around 10 AM on Sunday and it was pretty crowded.

The dosas are larger than what I have seen in other spots and are pretty tasty too.

They got my order wrong and were pretty prompt with coming in and leaving as soon after taking the order.

It's a pretty busy spot, ideally best for groups of 4. Parking is tight too, you might need to find street parking at peak times--which seems to be 10 AM.

“I recently discovered Chup Chaap and I’m so impressed! This place serves authentic Punjabi dhaba-style cuisine that actually tastes like it came straight from Delhi. Every dish I’ve tried has been exceptional and packed with real flavor.

The Tandoori Chaap is perfectly marinated with an amazing smoky char, the Malai Chaap is incredibly tender, and the Amritsari Naan with Chole has the most generous, satisfying portions. The Tandoori Paneer Tikka is also outstanding—the spice level is perfect and you can taste how much care goes into the preparation.
What I love most is that this isn’t Americanized Indian food. The flavors are bold and authentic, the food is always fresh, and the portions are generous. Plus, the prices are super reasonable for the quality you’re getting.

Personally I think the restaurant could benefit from improving the ambience - like using better utensils instead of the bamboo cups and plastic spoons for serving to attract more customers.
