“Real, honest BBQ. I had the 2 meat combo with brisket, ribs, mac & cheese and potato salad. Best BBQ I have had since I was in Austin Texas! The owner was working hard with the rest of his employees and was the one to take my order. He seemed very nice and was helpful. I work within walking distance so I can see myself becoming a regular here. Canyons is an excellent addition to Castro Valley's food scene.“

“I visited this restaurant twice. It was so good I went back for seconds, lol. However, the second time I ordered a meat meal. The bbq Hawaiin chicken was so good both times, but the chicken Katsu lacked seasoning but was crunchy and hot. I loved the macaroni salad! I will still eat here, but I will order the bbq chicken

Really really good food.

Orange chicken was nice and crispy, good cuts and well trimmed.

Cumin beef was tasty, well spiced, and had a good amount of fresh ingredients.

Chow Mein was really nice as well. I think it was chicken and minced pork belly. Pork belly was well spiced and the noodles werent too oily. Cabbage had some nice browning on it.

Steamed dumplings were good. I cant think of anything specific to say but definitely tasty and fresh.

Cute place. Definitely a family run place, nice and cozy. Will be my go to when I want Chinese. Highly recommend you give it a try.“

“Our family has known Peni, Sherry,there kids and grandkids for over 12 yrs now. Once I saw and smelled the bbq over 12 yrs ago I gravitated towards it and have been a huge fan since. Their island q is the best on the mainland and I recommend trying it all since I don’t have a favorite. You can see the passion and love that this family puts towards sharing a little bit of their heritage through their food with all of us. “There general cook of the meat was solid. Smokiness and tenderness was spot on. Depending on your preferences the execution on the protein was top notch. However I felt the bbq sauce (medium spice) was very average. If this was better I would have given it five stars.“

“I ran across this place by accident. It is on 98th Ave., East Oakland.Some might not think the neighborhood is very nice, but there is parking and the barbecue was good for the most part. I did ask for my barbecue to be on my meat because it was very good dark, But they put it on the side instead. You have the choice of getting lunch or dinner. The dinner is gonna cost you a little bit more but it’s a lot of meat.The sauce was rich and seasoned just right I got the beans and the mac & cheese. I was told that the potato salad is actually very good. Traffic is swift , on the outside, looking in, you would never know that they have really good barbecue inside but the most part I’m pleased“

“Food here is so good and a decent price for plates (I think it was $15 for a 1 meat plate and $20 for 2 meats ). Parked right outside Planet Fitness so a perfect post gym meal. The ribs are very juicy and the BBQ sauce he makes is delicious! The baked beans always hit along with the potato salad. Only complaint is that the bread sometimes gets soggy from the items in the box but that can easily be fixed. Definitely one of my favorite quick BBQ spots and I highly recommend giving him a try!“

It is fresh with good flavor. You know it’s a legit Chinese roasted duck when you can taste the star anise! I will definitely return to try the other items! Pro tip - parking can be terrible, so just go further down the lot towards auto zone. There’s always plenty of parking there.“

Now on to the food. I had basa & chicken both were seasoned good, & fried to perfection.
I also had the Yams & Mac & Cheese. The yams are 🔥
The Mac & cheese was NOT Mac'n 😂. A totally miss. It was thick & the noodles were overcooked. So if you're looking for a creamy & cheesy Mac & cheese go somewhere else.

Just know that the inside seating is very limited and there are not that many tables. So, it's sometimes hard to get seating during busy hours. However, the food is prepared fairly quickly and table turn over is fast.“

“This is a nice Thai BBQ place. We got Phad See-Ew with chicken, Chef's Special Seafood Combo Plate which came with Shrimps, scallops, mussels, squid. Fried shrimp & fried calamari, with a chicken fried rice. Everything was good except I felt the fried calamari and fried shrimp had to much breading on them we ended taking some of the breading off. Overall everything had good flavor, also the prices listed online are not the correct prices in store.“

“We had Chef Aaron cater a birthday party at our house with about 50 guests and it was an incredible experience. From the start, he was professional, friendly and easy to communicate with. Prices were very reasonable, and the food is unbelievably delicious. He was punctual, set up a buffet for the party and cleaned up after. Our guests were obsessed with the bbq tacos, and many got like 4 plates bc they loved it so much. Veg options were available for my vegetarian friends too.
