“Best Sushi, Omakase, and experience hands down.
These chefs are masters and the nicest guys who put everyone at ease and take your taste buds on an journey of pure joy and deliciousness.
Everything is sooo fresh and top quality. Each bite feels sacred, you can't help but close your eyes when enjoying the symphony of flavors.
I wish I could give more than 5 stars. My only advice: sit at the sushi bar and enjoy the ride :)“

“Love the sushi here it’s the only place I get sushi from. Well worth the price, plate feels loaded. The flavor just melts away and brings me back to Hawaii (my happy place). The staff are always so polite and doesn’t take long to get your order. There is tables inside and outside, it’s really nice and the vibes are always great. Thank you for having the best sushi in town!!!“

“Came here on a Saturday night. Place was busy. Most of the dishes were good. Servers were overall great. Main issue is that food comes out a bit slowly so there can be a wait between dishes. We sat in the patio but somehow diners inside the restaurant who sat down 2-3 dishes after us, caught up and finished before us. Overall took 2.5 hours for the Soichi omakase. There was a heater on the patio if needed which was nice.“

“Kyoto sushi has my heart! I loooove this place. The owners Mike and Maria put their heart and soul into this place and it shows.
This may be the best yellow tail sashimi/nigiri I have had in SD.
Their specialty rolls are out of this world and to top that off, they will make whatever roll you want (as long as they’re not too busy) just tell them your preferences.
This is a weekly spot for me and the misses and whenever family or friends are in town, we will bring them here.“

“I’m not much of a reviewer unless an establishment is amazing or the opposite.
I must take the time to let everyone know that this was the BEST fish and sushi that I’ve ever had. It was incredibly fresh and each dish was better than the next. It is most certainly worth the price (although less expensive than some other spots). The drinks were also suberb and service was excellent and genuine.
Don’t be fooled by the exterior appearance. Once you go inside, it’s chic and modern.
Absolutely will give Hane 10+ stars.“

“The sushi was amazing! We tried the power roll, energy roll, and Mexican roll, and each one was delicious. Sara was super helpful with recommendations since it was our first time visiting. The sushi tasted really fresh, and the rolls were well-made. The atmosphere was also great—very chill and welcoming. Definitely recommend checking this place out!“

“Fresh, absolutely. But let’s start with the basics. The rice is perfect. So many places don’t give any attention to the rice. They have it dialed in. The cuts also show amazing skills. If you are in San Diego and a sushi fan, you have to eat here!“

“The food was on point and well-presented. Ordered the Salmon Lover and Pork Dumplings as an appetizer. Both were delicious. The Salmon Lover had just the right amount of spice and great flavor, and the dumplings were amazing, especially with the sauce. For my entrée, I tried the Dubu Kimchi, which I never had before, and it was incredible. The flavors were perfectly balanced and so satisfying. The spice adds up so get a bowl of rice to accompany it! Will definitely be back!“

“Went on a 2x1 for the fist time without knowing. Expect to be placed on the waitlist 25 min aprox. They serve good portions the rolls are very fulfilling and good, the atmosphere is nice, the hostess and bus boy were really attentive, our server however could do better. The garlic edamames are fire but the tostada de atún is bomb!💣 Will be coming back for sure with my friends ! 😉🍣🍤“

“Been here a few times now, always have the nicest service and the food hasn’t disappointed yet! A little bit high on price but not unreasonable for the quantity and quality- beautiful plating of the Tower roll. Would love it if they played more tone-setting music to match the interior design instead of top radio pop hits though. No wait for a table Saturday evening at 6pm, food came out quick too.“

“Easily one of the best sushi experiences I’ve had in Southern California—period. From the moment you sit down, Matoi delivers a curated, thoughtful omakase that’s all killer, no filler. Nothing farm-raised, nothing phoned in—just wildly fresh, high-quality cuts that let the fish do the talking.
And the value? Ridiculous (in the best way). Easily the best bang-for-your-buck omakase in SoCal. You’re getting an elite sushi bar experience without the ego or the four-figure bill.
It was so good I forgot to take photos… and I never forget. That’s how locked in I was. Just me, the fish, and pure happiness.“

“I try the ramen and I loved it! The pieces of meat where big. Next time I will ask for like 79% more vegetables because I do like vegetables. the price was good because if how much meat it had. I hate sushi but love ramen. My whole family loves sushi so I'm happy that I can just drive 5 minutes n not 30 minutes to find a good restaurant. Also they have an area to sit outside in the sun which is a nice option. I left like at 12 noon and it got really full.“

“I dont eat sushi but I came here on a whim to check out the other options. Ordered the katsu chicken, cream cheese rangoons, and my boyfriend got a poke bowl. Would've ordered an appetizer too but thats doing too much. Everything was delicious! My boyfriends poke bowl came with a soup, I tried it but I dont like soup. He said it was good though. My rangoons were crisped well and my katsu was breaded so good, and it was a lot of food so we were both able to eat half and save the other half for lunch the next day. Next time I come here ill try the Thai tea and a vegetable roll (again, I dont like traditional sushi with fish). My server made good recxomendations and I spoke with 2 employees who were both very helpful. I love this place. Giving it a 3 star for atmosphere as I came here on a weekend night and it was busy and seemed a little small. Ill try again on a weekday and come back to update.“
