“While this spot is generally considered one of the best Thai spots in the city, I found it to be a bit over rated. Service was just ok and the food was disappointing. The beef curry was good but not as good as it should be considering the price. The beef wasn’t as tender as it should be and the curry was mismatched with fats and spices, generally a bit flat on flavor. Scallops were very good and had subtle Thai flavors that meshed very well with the scallop’s natural flavor. Fried chicken was my least favorite and completely not worth it. I’m not sure what happened here but very little expected flavor and zero exciting or inspiring flavor. Bland is best to describe.

Wine selection was very good. Presentation was beautiful for each dish. Seems like something potential changed, or maybe it was just the day after Valentine’s Day and the team had enough.

“I ordered takeout khao man gai and mango sticky rice and it was delicious! The sauces that go with the khao man gai were so falvorful and added so much depth to the dish. The mango sticky rice was also super good. The coconut sauce was sweet with a hint of saltiness to balance out the dish, and although mangos are not in season right now, the mangoes were still sweet. I would come back here and order something else on the menu because I would want to try what else they have :)“

“My friend and I were able to get in on a Friday night, and I felt the experience was very good. The service was prompt and the ambiance was definitely classy and East Bay. I think the tables were slightly close to each other, creating an intimate environment but also easier to hear others talk. I was not super impressed with the food, but I think this is personal and my experience is not universal.“

“Cool place (love the decor/style), nice staff & tasty food. Some dishes you will not find in the average Thai restaurant in the Bay Area. For example, the chef or owner is from northern Thailand so the menu features a top Northern Thai dish - Kao Soi noodle soup (beef or chicken), or the all time fav 'street food' grilled pork skewers (moo ping) served with sticky rice (ck out the menu on their website). I had the Pad Kemao Chicken (menu says beef but they are happy to make dishes with what you like & even have Beyond Meat dishes on the menu - cool to see stir fried basil with Beyond Meat (Krapao Beyond Neur)). The taste of my wok fried pad kemao was delicious, same or better than any I've had on prior trips to Bangkok. Glad to have discovered a solid Thai restaurant that doesn't have watered down flavors. Good to see they have a lot of gluten free and vegan choices on the menu too. Definitely will be back, keep up the good work!“

“love that this place is open late. it can be hard to find a good place to eat late at night in nob hill but you KNOW i'm always down for thai food like i will slurp that mf pad see ew like i've never eaten a day in my life and that's exactly what i did that last three times that i went here. place is small but usually not too busy so you always get a good spot. good menu. decent food and good service. nothing crazy to write home about. they don't have portraits of the king and queen of thailand so like it can't be THAT good but it most certainly hits the spot for late night curry cravings. tbh. what am i even saying. i'm here like every week. and the prices are reasonable for the area.“

“Excellent all around. The food was outstanding… our family of three loved it (including our toddler!). We ordered the pad Thai with chicken, the BBQ pork with sticky rice, and the praram with chicken.

The place itself is adorable and so clean. It’s situated on the corner with lots of opportunity to people watch. 5/5 stars for ambience.

The service, wonderful! Everyone was so nice and accommodating. The food came out fast. 5/5.

“We got the green curry with beef instead of pork. It had broccoli, two squash pieces and a green chili in it. It was good. The sauce was on the thinner side and tasted nice. The meat was good.

The Roti Canai was amazing, the red curry flavor was one of the best I've had in a long time. The rest of the food we had was incredibly good too. If I lived nearby I would be coming here all the time! Only downside is the vegetarian options were not clearly marked, and there were 2 pieces of chicken in our tofu pumpkin curry.

What we ordered: - Tom Kha Soup with Chicken Excellently flavors and just enough spice for me. My spouse loves really spicy dishes and said it would be delicious with more spiciness, but thought the broth was so good that it didn’t even need to change. We actually just wish there was an option to order a larger size, it was that good! Sometimes my spouse like to just have soup as the entree. - Green Curry with Chicken (comes with rice) Wow! Super bright and fresh taste! Smells really good and tastes even better. Perfect combination of sweet & salty sauce with nuttiness from the cashews, enhanced by the onion, carrot, cilantro. Since it was their first day, we enjoyed free beverages. The Thai tea was so good- you can get oat milk for $1 more. The Black Mango Iced Tea was also delicious and you get refills on it. I cannot wait to go back and eat every dish. Since it was their first hour open, we were there when the Doordash photographer came to snap pictures of all the dishes. WOW! We were eyeing the Lobster Ravioli and honestly it looks too good to miss. So we’ll probably be back later this week to try it and more. Congratulations on your opening. We decided to give Chao Thai another try and we're still talking about the Tum Kak Gai that was exceptional.Our only disappointment (minor) was I ordered the chef's seafood special but received a chicken & green bean dish that, while unexpected, was great. Was craving some Thai basil and came to this place on a whim. It's downstairs in a basement level international food court, how cool! Menu offered chicken Thai basil and I asked if they could make me a tofu one, and they said no problem. Made to order with spice level too. It was out quickly and was soo flavorful! Perfect portion for lunch. It's a good hall, so seating is casual, but that worked for me.“

They have a limited and pricey alcohol menu, but the servers know almost nothing about drinks.
