“When I need warm comfort food, this is my go-to. That's usually during a tough work day and I need to get away from the office for some pho. I call ahead and it's ready when I arrive for pickup. They package it well so it won't leak, the noodle and veggies are separate from the broth, and it's piping hot. My favorite dish is vegetarian pho. The portion is huge so I usually eat half and save the rest for the next day. I love it!

Vegetarian options: Mostly meat/seafood dishes but you can find lots of tofu options. Good for gluten-free with their rice noodle dishes.“

“Gao Viet has been bookmarked for awhile now and today was the opportune time to try it. I was in the area, needed to pick up dinner and traffic on 101 was backed up. 5pm was not busy, so I order a few things to try and placed an order for take out. Sugarcane drink, Banh Hoi with 4 items, 2 Giants prawns, and Banh Canh.

Sugar cane drink was fresh, maybe a little too much ice, but it was fine.

Giant prawns: they charge per prawn, which I was curious how big these prawns are. The seasoning and sauce was ok, I wished the sauce was packed separately, as it made the Banh hoa and veggies soggy by the time I got home. The prawn themselves were cooked right, but I wonder if the shell could be more crispy. As it was, I couldn't eat the shell. Overall, I do think these are overpriced in my opinion.

The Banh hoi was an appetizer with 4 varieties: eggroll, pork, shrimp paste on sugarcane and some other type of meat. Out of my order, this was my favorite. I love wrapping it in the lettuce and cilantro and mint herbs. One feedback is that it only came with one fish sauce container, which is skimpy for an appetizer order. My mom had to make more dipping sauce for us.

The Banh Canh was generous portion of pork and bones and quail eggs and shrimp. As it was a take out order, I reheated the broth when I got home so it would be hot. Noodles were good, broth was perfect.

So, maybe next time I would try dining in with friends for the full experience. I wonder if the wait will be long for dinner hours. I'd like to try more dishes and their special drinks.“

“Superb service, lots of options, I tried bun bo hue it was decent but missing pig feet. Big portions I got large and super fast. Overall great place to come to if you need to be in and out quick, they also have a wide selection of Vietnamese food“

“The best bahn mi in the peninsula and debatably in the bay. I didn’t want to leave a review; because I wanted it to stay a hidden gem but now that I am moving out of San Mateo I will. Please try the grilled pork with pate, it’s the most popular one.“

“The sandwich is good. The overly sweet and commercial sauce masked the taste of the crispy chicken. Tasty roll with shrimp and fresh mint. Service that leaves something to be desired when placing the order. The lady who took our order should have had a smile and a friendlier approach. It was unpleasant. The restaurant has Wi-Fi but that is not accessible to customers. It was a categorical no to our request.“

“The food here is really, really good. I came here to eat out with a friend of mine and ordered the house garlic noodles, Dungeness crab, and imperial rolls. I can't say much about the service since they gave me and my friend lots of time to catch up, so depending on what you expect, it's pretty good. That's why I gave service 4 stars. “WOW, this place is a hidden gem! Casual mom-and-pop atmosphere and decor, affordable prices and HUGE portions! The bbq pork vermicelli bowl is phenomenal, they sauté the usual crushed peanut topping in garlic and sprinkle on fried crumbs from their egg rolls, it's delicious! Also, the egg rolls are homemade and twice as big as the standard finger-sized one is you get elsewhere. We are definitely coming back.“

“I love the broth!!!! I can tell that you must have braised the broth forever since the broth was so good. I was busy each time my husband wanted to take me so I asked him to buy to go. “A pretty decent family owned Vietnamese restaurant. It’s been a while we saw traditional dripping coffee, so we really liked it. The taste was authentic.For the food, we ordered one Shrimp spring rolls, one Grilled pork ball spring rolls and one Pho Tai. Pho was decent, the broth was just okay. The other two dishes were good. But, I agreed the price was quite expensive compared to other Vietnamese restaurants I have tried.I think they kinda lack of staff because one lady took the job of waiter + cashier + preparing drinks, one uncle served food and cleaned up tables, and there seemed to be only one chef. Thus, it took a bit of time for food to be served. But, the lady was very nice. She chatted with us for a bit while serving our drinks and during checkout.

“Growing up in a Vietnamese household, it is difficult to find a restaurant that makes their dishes taste like a home-cooked meal. The difference is the passion and love. This is a family owned restaurant. I ordered the pork chop rice plate (com tam thit nuong). One bite and you can tell that the owner cooks every piece of food on that plate like she would cook for her own children. That loving motherly touch is undeniable. The pork chop is cooked so that it’s not burnt or dry. Not too salty. The vegetables are meticulously cleaned and picked out. The egg yolk is perfectly runny with crispy on the edges. The baguette is warm and comforting. And more than the tastes is the warm loving feeling that ensues.The parking lot is free and has plenty of spaces. Service is straight to the point, no fluff. One has to lower expectations given that this is within the university and caters to a diverse set of diners, so the tastes are milder vs the local Asian staples. A good representation nonetheless of Asian cuisine. The dining area is soley outdoors but relatively clean and provides a good campus spot to have ones meal and to meet up. No toilets available.

“Solid place to get Vietnamese food. It’s definitely a little cheaper than Pho Ha Noi down the street, but it’s also not as fancy. The food is still good though and I like how they have many classic Vietnamese dishes.

I like to get their Vietnamese pate pork banh mi. My partner likes their popcorn chicken. I also like their grilled pork with rice. And recently we ordered their grilled chicken and it was surprisingly good too

I also like that this place’s usually not too busy for dinner so you can usually sit wherever and order fast. They serve food pretty fast. We waited less than 10 minutes when we ordered 3 entrees and 1 appetizer. I also like how they have a utensils box at the table so you don’t need to flag down a waiter for a spoon or fork. Also they make the water so fancy here! They give water in a large mason jar with citrus and add citrus and cucumber to the water cups. I like that touch. It makes the water feel fancy.

Also want to mention they auto-add a 10% service charge on the bill.

The inside feels new and clean. I think they’ve redone the restaurant a bit because I don’t remember it being like this before, but I really like their new decor. It feels modern and warm.

“It's hard to describe how great this place is, I have been there twice and this is the valentine day lunch. Notice the little details, tiny mint leaves on one piece, tobiko on another. Everything is fresh and pops with flavor. You can really tell they care about the food they put out. If this was a regular restaurant in Belmont there would be lines out the door every day.“

“This place is excellent! All food is made fresh so all customizations are possible. We are vegetarian and they were able to accommodate with no fish sauce in curries and pad Thai. I highly recommend the eggplant dish. Service was great, the waitress is kind and hasn't messed up an order a single time we have visited.
