“We found this place online and decided to give it a try. The restaurant itself is a bit small, good for small groups of up to four. And you can use the tablet to put in an order.

We ordered the Omakase, the dill roll, and the baked unagi roll. The fish was fresh and delicious, but their rolls were a bit too heavy in flavor for me. I had to keep eating ginger to cleanse my palate.“

“Awesome sushi poke place that is very generous with its portions! The staff is very friendly and helpful in getting all of the ingredients you like as well as telling you if something cost extra!

“I think my wife and I found our new favorite sushi spot, certainly much closer than our other one!
We came to check this place out. Standard menu, lots of options without having too many to look though either. My wife got a pork Katsu Bento box, I got a couple rolls, and we shared an appetizer or two.
Food was satisfying and the server was attentive on refills and checking on us. Best of all the prices are still reasonable here, which is nice with how much they seem to be going up everywhere else.
I think we will be going here regularly to get our sushi fix!“

“We got eggplant in garlic sauce and veggie egg foo young. It was tasty and the portions were big. A little more sauce on the eggplant dish would have been nice, but we liked all the mushrooms and crunchy veggies in the dish. Will go here again for takeout.“

On a packed Saturday night, the team was clearly working at full speed. The chef in particular was impressive - focused, efficient, and handling a nonstop flow of orders without missing a beat. You could feel the effort and care behind the counter.

The sashimi was fresh, clean, and genuinely delicious - exactly what you hope for when you sit down at a sushi bar. The specialty rolls like Flaming Dragon were beautifully plated with a bit of flair, and the uni shooters were the highlight of the night - rich, briny, and absolutely outstanding.

Overall, a lively, high-quality sushi experience. When a restaurant is that busy and still maintains this level of freshness and service, that says a lot. Definitely worth coming back.“

“This a tucked away gem. The Salt and Pepper Shrimp. Its the best I tasted, and the hot pepper slices gives them the extra kick of you desire extra hot. 12 juicy peices, the perfect texture. “Excellent place for good sushi. We went for dinner on a Sunday evening and the place was packed. Despite that we only had to wait about 5 min (they said 10-15). The restaurant is clean and we'll appointed. Staff were all friendly with excellent service. The food was delicious. We will happily return.“

Crispy and homey - good blend of veggies and meat. Definitely a spot for casual get-togethers or a quick lunch. “OMG. I’m a sushi lover and this is my new favorite lunch spot. Happened to be in the area for lunch, which just happens to be their happy hour! We ordered one of everything on the happy hour menu and were BLOWN AWAY. Soooo good, we ordered 2nds of most of the items. Floored how good the oyster mushroom tempura on their HH menu is. Like. Chef’s kiss! All of the fish items in HH were top shelf. So good, we ended up ordering multiples. Staff was so helpful and happy. Can’t wait to come back.“

“Ever since Jo's Sushi Bar closed, I've been searching for a comparable sushi place and I'm glad to say, The Shoya fits the bill. I judge a sushi place not on their rolls but the quality of their fresh fish and sushi rice...and this place doesn't disappoint. We got the 10 piece nigiri omakase and and sushi combo (7 piece nigiri and roll) as well as the tekka don and tempura and wvwrything was well prepared and delicious! The sake was served in a cool looking dispenser I've never seen before, which was a nice touch! I'm not in Pleasant Hill very often but I'm happy to know this will be my go-to spot for great sushi when I am in town.“

The reviews were great so we thought we’d check it out - we were pleasantly surprised by the immediate seating at 630PM on a Saturday, and the decor was nice. We ordered the gyozas, miso soup, California roll, rainbow roll, and dynamite rolls and they were all fantastic and beautifully presented. The owner of the restaurant also dropped off a complimentary appetizer (mushrooms) and dessert (chocolate ice cream). Overall, fantastic hospitality and very good fish. We will be back!“

“I absolutely love this restaurant and have been coming here for nearly 20 years. The staff are attentive and kind, and the food is consistently delicious and fresh. We have celebrated birthdays here and they make it special.

Whether you’re going for a bento box or sushi (or both!), you will be happy with your meal. What I love is that it’s consistent from visit to visit. The sushi is especially fresh and, in the past, I’ve asked them to recreate some of my favorite rolls from other restaurants and they were happy to give it a go (and it came out great).

We visited again a few weeks ago and I was so happy with our meal that I wanted to leave a review. I should have done this sooner… they deserve every 5 stars!

“I come twice a month. This place is my go to for Japanese comfort food. I love the gyudon just the way they prepped it. Saucy, sweet and savory just like I remember from childhood in Asia. Sushi and sashimi are fresh (enough). Bento is reasonably priced. Atmosphere is good. Not pretentious like some of the Japanese restaurants in this area. They actually play Japanese tunes.“
