I ordered three street tacos—chorizo, chicken, and steak—and that steak taco? Buddy… it tasted like someone grilled the most excellent steak known to mankind, whispered words of encouragement to it, motivated it to reach its full potential, then sliced it into bite-size greatness. The salsa inside? So good I considered taking it home and introducing it to my family. My son ordered the happy hour cheese quesadilla, which came out perfectly toasted—crispy golden edges, soft cheesy center. Basically a work of art Picasso wishes he painted. Then we shared the habanero wings, which came with a medley of tomatoes and sliced cucumbers so fancy it felt like they were auditioning for a cooking show. The dressing? Absolutely delicious. I briefly thought about drinking it like a tiny salad smoothie. I didn’t… but I thought about it. In conclusion: If you’re not eating at The Hole in the Wall, are you even living? 🌮🔥🍗“

She checked up on us to see if everything with our dinner was going well, it was!!!! She did demonstrate lots of respect, by providing a warning for a change in the environment. “My husband and I had dinner here last night, and it was easily the best meal of our trip.

We were able to make a reservation the same day. They were running a little behind when we arrived, but it was no issue for us and absolutely worth the wait. The host walked us over to the lounge bar, where we enjoyed drinks while waiting for our table. I ordered the Spiced Merchant, which was excellent — I would definitely recommend it if you enjoy rum.

The food is priced on the higher end, but the quality, flavor, and portion sizes make it well worth it. My husband started with the Gem Caesar salad, and I had the beet carpaccio, which was incredible (and a must if you love beets). We also added a bread basket, which was a great addition.

For our mains, my husband ordered the pork chop with mushroom bread pudding. He really enjoyed it, and the bite I tried was delicious. I ordered the ribeye. It doesn’t come with a traditional side, but we shared the sautéed mushrooms, which paired perfectly. My steak was cooked exactly right, and the chimichurri was outstanding.

We finished with the crème brûlée special for dessert, which was fabulous and a perfect ending to the meal.

Overall, the service was great and the food was even better. It’s definitely a splurge, but worth every penny. If you’re in the area, I highly recommend making a reservation and dining here.

“My friend and I shared a wine tasting which consisted of three small glasses of tasting size. You get to pick the three wines that you want. Not a huge selection., but works. We decided to eat there and I got the crabcakes which were pretty tasty a spicy sauce on top, and there were bell peppers and with the crabcakes. My friend got salmon with the skin was very crispy which he likes but the inside was too rare and he had to ask them to cook it more. It came back, still a bit too rare, and we fed that to the seagulls….The couscous salad that came with it was the best thing of all. I would not run back there but if you’re hungry and in that exact area, it’s a convenient place to grab a bite to eat. They have a couple of different patios outside, and the staff was very friendly. The one remark my friend said was that if they’re going to leave the salmon that raw like they said they usually do, they should ask people how they like it cooked. He loves sushi, but it was too rare for him being that it was salmon. It was a great day to get away from the high heat of Sonoma. We went from the 90s to the 60s wearing a jacket. He had never gone by the school house from Alford Hitchcock The Birds, so we did that on the way out.“

To our delight, we found that Chef Krisztian Karkus and his wife Alena (who has now moved out of the back of the house to charm guests as a friendly, attentive hostess/waitress) have made their restaurant's tastefully appointed new incarnation even better than we remembered it. What makes Tisza special is not just the wonderful food, drink and ambience but the sprinkling of rare (in California Wine Country) offerings on its menu, including mouthwatering Central and East European delights -- schnitzels, goulash, spaetzle, potato dumplings, wild mushrooms and, OH YES!, apple strudel -- reflecting the couple's background (he's Hungarian and she's Czech). From the early planning conversations with Patty, to her family's kindness and accommodation on what turned out to be a rainy day (Patty and Alicia put out prayers to the rain gods that it would stop for us!), to the INCREDIBLE food AND service, we fell in love with the Ginochio family. Our first waiter was Ben and oh how we loved him so we always asked for him when we would go in. Sadly, Ben moved out of the area but then we got Danny! Another fantastic server and now we always ask for her! Can't vouch for the other servers but my guess would be that they are all good! Susie is the owner, and she is wonderful!
