“Just went in for lunch and wow they've leveled up! Overall a solid 4.5!
The things that we used to like were all still yummy, and some things that I hadn't been impressed by were really good!
In particular:
- The youtiao 油條 deep fried doughnut stick was freshly fried and amazing. Maybe a smidge on the heavily crispy fried side but yummy and chewy. The best youtiao I've had in years (but I don't really go out of my way to order this normally since it's often stale). Will definitely get this again!
- the soup dumplings Xiao Long Bao had a nice delicate skin and were tender and flavorful.
- the ground chicken skewer and chicken heart skewer and chicken porridge were really good still. Porridge is still a little salty for my taste but yummy.
- service was fast, friendly, and attentive.
They had a sizzling meat dish on a cast iron that smelled amazing - will look for it on the extensive menu next time.
Great job! Hope to be back often.
Previous review from Feb 2025 or so:
Really like the porridge and the skewers. Consistently good. I like to get the chicken heart. Tsukune ground chicken is pretty good!
The scallion pancake is pretty good.
Kid likes the XLB but I think they're mediocre
Noodles pretty mediocre in my opinion.
Would recommend avoiding the fried stuff (fried shrimp tasted frozen but maybe it's improved in a year?).
Friendly staff but sometimes need to work to get their attention (but I appreciate the friendliness).“

“Kemuri is definitely not a typical American Japanese restaurant; if you’re not raw fish eater you can enjoy much broader range of different cooked and uncooked Japanese food beyond sushi rolls and sashimi at this restaurant. However it is far from providing an authentic Japanese food experience. Which authentic Japanese restaurant does not provide tempura sauce but soy sauce for a vegetable tempura dish? And their smoked soy sauce, the staple of Japanese cuisine basic sauce is very salty and dark, another mistake. Other disappointment included real tough overcooked beef tongue and thick fried pork chop not juicy due to problems with the flours. The only dish we truly enjoyed is sardine with cheese, a fusion of east and west. That is probably the strength of this restaurant’s cooking but when I ordered simply traditional Japanese food, it is far from perfect. All that being said if someone wants atypical American Japanese food, this is the place to go.“

“The food was amazing, and it was made more so by our chef for the evening, Robert, who explained everything he was doing, where the ingredients came from and what the process was to create the menu. Thanks to everyone at 808 Zone, it was an evening to remember.“

“This place has grew on me, and with every time i bought food from here. The very cheap prices, and fun waitress, made me love this place more and more, making me want to buy food from here almost everyday. now, i come with friends many times a week, and would very much recommend this amazing place to anyone looking for a nice, cheap meal.“

“Urban Momo San Mateo is a true delight for anyone craving Nepali and Indian flavors. Every dish we tried; from momo and choila to chicken chilly, naan curry, and biryani was packed with authentic taste. The staff are warm and welcoming, making every visit a pleasure. If you’re in the area, this place is an absolute must-try!“

“Wanted Pho kinda late, 9pm, and when looking around this place was open late. Stopped by, as expected seated right away as only a few people in the restaurant at that time. Waitress was great, right away brought a cup of water with extra bottle table side for refills. Already knew I wanted pho, but still looked at the menu, everything looked good, if i didn't have my heart set on Pho already would of been a hard decision to make. Ordered the Beef Pho, braised oxtail broth was delicious with shredded oxtail throughout the broth. Came with the typical, bean sprouts, lime wedge, jalapeno slices and fresh basil. Added some of everything. Didn't get a picture when my food first came out as I forgot and was hungry, but remembered when 2/3 through. Can't wait to be back in the area to try some of the other menu items. Would recommend if your looking for some food Asian fusion food.“

“Our dinner was amazing from start to finish! Came with friends and tried a few different dishes, including two different styles of momo (kothe and choila), akbare wings, cauli 8848, and chicken chow mein. The juju dhau was also a great way to end the night. Everything was so great! If you’re on the fence, don't hesitate! You have to go here :)“

“My go-to lunch/dinner spot in downtown Palo Alto! Yes, it’s gotten a lot pricier- $18 for a sushi burrito... Yes, I’m still willing to pay that price for this delicious roll. I get the salmon samba every time and it never disappoints. Sometimes sushi doesn’t feel filling enough for a meal but this certainly does the trick for me. What a great flavor and texture combo! I feel good after eating it too like my body recognizes it is a nourishing meal. There’s always open seating options whenever I drop by. I’ve eaten in before but I usually get take-out. Have recommended to friends and will keep coming back.
NOTE: if you want to order ahead, you have to go to their website to order online. Calling won’t work.“

“In place of fast food, I love stopping here for a relatively healthy and quick snack or meal. My personal favorite onigri is the cooked salmon and plum, or anything with the wasabi slaw in it!
Dietary restrictions: Plenty of vegetarian options but unsure of protein content if that’s a macro you’re searching for“

“Hands down the best Korean fried barbecued chicken in the Bay Area! Banchan in San Mateo blew me away — perfectly crispy, juicy chicken with a rich glaze that hits all the right notes. The flavors are bold but balanced, and the sides (especially the pickled radish and kimchi) complement the meal beautifully. Service was fast and friendly, and the place was spotless. I’ve been craving it ever since. Highly recommend for anyone who loves Korean BBQ or just amazing fried chicken.“

“super yum! i had the garlic chili tonkatsu ramen and unagi chazuke and they were great! the chazuke was very satisfying and addicting to eat - the unagi was perfectly cooked and seasoned with a sweet sauce! i felt like the garlic chili tokatsu ramen was a bit overcooked but still very fragrant. a sleeper hit was the shishito pepper tempura - crispy and flavorful!“

“I catered an event for over 80 people with Roost And Roast. Everyone raved about the food! The owner, Branden, was extremely generous and kind and made a special delivery to our event, after closing hours. Each tray was generously filled, and we had an abundance of food. I will definitely order from them again. It was a pleasure working with Roost And Roast and I highly recommend them!“

“Great place to get together with friends & family. We had about 30 people for a family get together. Service was great. The outdoor patio was the perfect setting! Most of the food was outstanding. We are actually from Hawaii so we’re very critical about the food.“

“While it’s a beautiful place and great location, I wasn’t particularly blown away by the food. It really might be what I ordered but for 30 dollars with the substitutions the Gardena soufflé is really underwhelming. But the dishes my friend ordered as well as dishes on tables near us looked much more flavorful and interesting so I’m not docking much from my rating. But overall i left a little disappointed. I would recommend trying something besides the soufflés as I suspect that’s where I made my mistake.“

“Good food (we had the green papaya salad and the pad kee mao, both excellent). Had we known that the pad kee mao didn't come with tofu we would have asked for it, so next time we will, but that's nitpicking. Very fast service, noticeably so. Location great for those in San Mateo or Foster City (and this restaurant is much better in my mind than Sweet Basil, I'm sorry). The pad kee mao dish was huge and we had to take home half of each plate (we got two, next time one will be enough, but we took it home and plan to enjoy later)“

“Love this place! Great food and amazing drinks — the matcha 🍵 is my favorite. The only thing is that once they brought the check, we kind of felt the need to leave even though we were still chatting. It wasn’t a big deal since the place was busy, but just something we noticed. Either way, we’ll definitely come back!“

“Stopped by The Mandarin Chinese while hoping for some great Chinese food in town. The location was convenient, and the space itself is quite nice, with the added bonus of upstairs seating. Service was smooth; we came on a Friday evening, got seated right away, and dishes arrived in a steady flow.
Unfortunately, the experience was a bit mixed. The sizzling rice soup was disappointing; it came out lukewarm and didn’t sizzle at all, with a watered-down broth. Definitely underwhelming.
That said, the rest of the meal was much better. We ordered Spicy Beef Tendon, Salt and Pepper Tofu, Garlic Snow Pea Leaves, Eggplant in Spicy Sauce, and Kung Pao Chicken. Every dish was flavorful, and the Szechuan-style seasoning really stood out. The beef tendon dish, in particular, looked and tasted great.
Overall, while not everything hit the mark (and prices felt a bit high), the main dishes were strong enough to make it a solid option for Szechuan cravings; just maybe skip the soup.“

“My husband and I were just here for our 2 years anniversary. They take walk ins for bar seating and there are 4 bar seats available at a time.
Definitely lived up to the hype. Flavors are very delicate, not overpowering at all. If you are looking for something extremely flavorful then this may not be a good fit. However, if you prefer lighter and refreshing profile, Yeobo Darling is the place for you. The sea urchin appetizer and the scallion croissants are MUST HAVEs.
The attention to service here is outstanding. Masha was helping us throughout the night and was extremely sweet and attentive. We got to learn about her story and vice versa - lots of nice conversations. Overall, 100% would come back and hopefully to see Masha again! :)“

“I spent a few weeks in Xinjiang a million years ago and ate laghman -- the Uyghur's national dish -- two or three times a day. Loved it loved it loved it. Hadn't had any in over 25 years, then recently moved to the area and saw that downtown Menlo Park had a Uyghur place. Woo hoo!
The noodles and sauce are perfect. (The meat is surprisingly low-quality so I ask for it without the meat and just get some flank steak slicked up for stir-fry at Whole Foods and cook that up at home to add.) The portion is generous and the dish keeps well in the fridge for a few days.“

“A Must-Visit for Musubi Enthusiasts!
This spot is a hidden gem for musubi lovers! Their Spam musubi is perfectly grilled, with seasoned rice and crisp nori. The variety of creative fillings keeps things exciting, and the quality is consistently top-notch. Friendly staff and a welcoming atmosphere make it even better. Highly recommended!

“This was our second visit to Avenida. We decided to return because our first experience was outstanding, but unfortunately, this visit fell short in both food and service. We ordered the beef bulalo, which had good flavor, though the beef shank was not as tender as expected. The pork sisig, which was the highlight of our first visit, was noticeably dry this time. The salmon inasal was enjoyable, especially the garlic kangkong that accompanied it, but the mashed potato on the side felt mismatched with the dish. Service began well but became disappointing as the meal went on. Staff asked if we needed boxes while I was still eating, then proceeded to clear dishes without checking if we were finished. Even the extra rice we planned to take home was removed without asking. The bill was brought promptly, giving the impression that we were being rushed, despite the restaurant not being full and with no guests waiting. A more attentive approach like asking if we were finished before clearing plates, confirming whether we wanted to pack leftovers, or checking if we were ready for the bill would have greatly improved the experience. Sadly, this visit was not as enjoyable as our first, and we may not be returning in the near future.“

“The boba was nice! We did order via the digital screen and the option to customize sugar/ice was not offered. Or did we miss it.
We were at the place 6:30 pm on Tuesday. The only customers. The order took a loooooong time.
It’s a peculiar thing that they still seem to have their Halloween decoration out :). It’s end of February:)
Plenty of parking at the plaza.“

“No parking. No place to eat. Sushi isn't meant to be delivered in my opinion. You have to order online. Their QRcode on the door is outdated and doesn't actually take your order. Price doesn't really make sense when there is no dine in option...“

“A pre-flight tradition with veggies (and fish!)
My friend loves this place, and over time, it’s become a little tradition: a quick dinner here before I send her off to SFO. I’m not exactly what you’d call a vegetarian (far from it!), but hey—this is a poke spot, and fish definitely isn’t a vegetable. Still, I always follow my friend’s lead and pick kale as the base. By the end of the bowl, I feel like I’ve eaten a year’s worth of greens… in a good way. 😄
This time, I also tried their signature (I think?) taro chips—and I liked them! Crispy, slightly sweet, and a nice change from the usual sides.
Simple, fresh, fast, and now a sentimental favorite. Looking forward to our next “see-you-later” dinner here.“

“Our server was pleasant and efficient. We wish we had gotten his name to thank him personally on this review. Food portions were generous and nicely plated on good quality stoneware. The price point was good for the delicious assortments on the menu. We enjoyed the cocktails at $8.99. Out only objection was the background music that had a booming pulse. Perhaps this vibe is not our style. It makes conversation difficult.“

“Three friends and I dined at Rangoon Ruby in San Carlos on a quiet Thursday evening (except for a wild 49ers game that was being celebrated in nearby establishments!). We chose all vegetarian options, and everything was plentiful and delicious. We had the tea leaf salad, (very light and refreshing), the garlic eggplant (deep purple and delicious without being gooey), Burmese pad tai (pungent sauce on perfectly cooked noodles) and veggie kabat (a mix of vegetables and tofu stir-fried with paprika, masala, tamarind, jalapenos, mint leaves, tomatoes, onions and cilantro) . We also had two orders of coconut rice. The salad plus three main courses was plenty of food! We thought everything was delicious and comparatively (in this neighborhood!) reasonably priced. We were treated very respectfully and were allowed to take our time.“

“Pretty good. I've been to teriyaki madness a bunch in Las Vegas and I feel like there used to be more tofu in my junior bowl. I also think that the teriyaki sauce has been a bit watered down unfortunately. It's definitely more expensive than in Vegas.... Five more dollars a bowl.“
