From the moment you step in, the warm ambiance and inviting aroma of freshly prepared spices set the stage for a memorable meal.

What stands out most is the quality of the ingredients—everything feels fresh, organic, and thoughtfully sourced. The spices are vibrant yet balanced, elevating each dish without overpowering it. I’ve traveled and dined at many places, but Rara Palo Alto has earned a special spot on my list of favorites.

A few must-tries: the lamb chops are perfectly cooked and seasoned, the momos are juicy and flavorful, and the Nepali Taas along with Chhoila (both veg and non-veg) are absolute showstoppers. Each plate tells a story of tradition and care.

Behind this incredible food is Chef Binod Paudayal, whose 30+ years of experience shine through in every creation. His journey from small kitchens to luxury hotels is reflected in the finesse and consistency of the dishes here. The staff, too, deserve a shoutout—they’re attentive, friendly, and go out of their way to make you feel at home.

“This is the best pan-fried soup dumpling I’ve had in the Bay Area. The xiao long bao have thicker skins, and while I personally prefer the thinner ones from Din Tai Fung, these still have plenty of soup and aren’t bad. The dumplings, mushroom pork buns, chicken pan-fried dumplings, and spicy beef hotpot were all solid and tasty, though not particularly outstanding. The chef threw some very bright and obviously fresh vegetables out of the flat top and got cooking. For a little hole in the wall spot, the teriyaki bowl I had was very tasty, filled with tender chicken and fresh vegetables. An actual pleasant surprise. Surprise. Highly recommended for a quick spot to stop in or get something to go.“

“If you would like to make the best use of your money at this place, go on a weekday for lunch because its gonna be $25. For that price its 100% totally worth it and possibly the best hot pot to try.

Worth eating: Beef, Shrimp, fish fillets, Veggies, fruits and the soup. Just these are easily worth $25 bucks plus you get a great experience.

Rest are filler meat, frozen meat and Dessert is quite bad. There’s chicken and lamb too

Beef is possibly the only meat that I really liked here. The only thing I disliked is that we need to ask the server to bring it as we cannot pick it up ourselves. One bowl has one thin strip in it. They get two at once for a single person. The server would most likely judge you if you order a lot which I found a bit awkward as there is only one server on weekdays

Most of the other meat is frozen. Also, don’t expect high quality cut here because it’s only 25 bucks but its pretty great for the prize. Plus its a very large restaurant.

“We had a late dinner at P.F. Chang’s in Sunnyvale, and as always, the food was fantastic. The Black Pepper Chicken was absolutely delicious—full of flavor and perfectly prepared.

“We just finished a delightful belated Father’s Day lunch here. Our server, Daniel, was extremely thoughtful. We had our two little kids with us and (without any prompting) he let us know which items we were ordering could be adjusted to have spices or sauces on the side to make sure we could share with the kids. He also gave us timing estimates for the various dishes we ordered. This is only our second visit to Dumpling Time, but the food was yummy and we felt well taken care of, so we’ll be back.“

We get the bento boxes with teryaki chicken, California rolls, and sashimi (tuna or salmon) the miso soup is great and the salad with that delicious dressing is perfect. If I had to choose one item, it would be their grilled chicken leg bento square, and when it's on-sale it's an absolute steal at $9.99!

Other great options I'd recommend are their popcorn chicken, g-pie golden chicken cutlet, deluxe braised pork rice bowl, five spices fried chicken cutlet square, and thai lime pepper crispy chicken square.

For drinks I like their passion fruit boba gaga, fresh watermelon passionfruit green tea, fresh grapefruit green tea, and OSQ super fruit tea.“

“It's an alternative to Rooster and Rice which is basically the Thai style hainan chicken rice. What I like about Chicken Meets Rice is that it has more than one style of chicken in that it also has fried chicken but then tbh the whole point of these kind of food is the hainan chicken so I'd recommend the steamed chicken with chicken rice instead of the other stuff on the menu. Chicken is tender and flavorful and I prefer this style of hainan chicken over the Cantonese style.

This place also has other sauces (I love the spicy Singaporean sauce but it has a kick) in addition to the regular sauce.

You order through the kiosk and pick up at the other end of the counter.

This location is inside the small food court next to 99 Ranch and the food court is basically dying so I'm hoping it stays there. The noodle and the boba place pretty much died already. Service is good and courteous for a to go place.“

Had the army stew, which my 17 year old son had been wanting to try for a while now, plus some kimchi rice, short rib stew and a bowl of spicy edamame that the server brought us as a free treat. Service was amazing, especially for an after midnight visit.
