“If you were thinking of ordering Chinese food from your local orange chicken mill, please don't. It is difficult to find an amazing restaurant in the turgid swamp of modern Chinese victuals, and I'm very pleased to say this is one. Avoid any buffet-style offerings, and enjoy an authentic Sacramento experience at Frank Fat's.
From the moment their concierge took our vehicle away from our meager, hungry hands--to the moment our server, Luis, held the door for us on our way out--my grandmother and I had a fantastic evening we won't soon forget. She has been coming to this Sacramento hotspot since the year after it opened. (They opened in 1939)
Luis, our server, was amazing. It was my first time in the restaurant, despite my grandmother's incorrigible tenure. Luis explained to the both of us the exquisite delicacies we were soon to enjoy, and also a few that I will have to return and sample on a later occasion. We ordered the half Peking duck, the honey walnut prawns, and the delectably spicy Singapore rice noodles. It was absolutely to die for. Turns out you make a saucy little taco out of the rice buns that come with the duck. It was absolutely more awesome than I could ever describe.
We've all had honey walnut shrimp right? No, you haven't. I hate to gatekeep like that, but unless you've had this one, you legitimately haven't had the proper dish.
Right as we were winding up, and as I thought bursting my stomach open in a public place would be worth it just to taste the amazing food for a moment longer, Luis brought us a special gift: a slice of their famous banana pie. Now, although my grandma says it's different every time (she's been going for 84 years, anyone know a solid banana pie supplier?) she did say it was one of the best she has ever had. If I hadn't had the need to escort my toddling grandmother out of the restaurant as she used to do for me at Charles Cheddar's Fun Factory and the like, I would have crammed nearly that entire slice of pie in my face. I had to resign the majority to my grandmother, despite it being a sacrificial offering for my first time in the establishment.
It took like, I don't know, 3-5 minutes between when Luis dropped off our check, to when he was holding the door open for us as we left the restaurant. How was he not there and then suddenly there?? He was like Batman. My grandma has to hold on to me and we kind of have to do ballet to get through narrow spots and doorways without her loosing her balance, so this was a godsend in itself. If the service up until this point hadn't been amazing already, this would have secured Frank Fat's a spot in my heart.
Thank you, Luis, you rock. Managers you better read this and give that dude a raise. I'm serious, I'll come back and ask about it; I don't wanna be a Karen, but I will for Luis. I'm just joking, but really. Guys. Recognize that man's amazing service. In fact, everyone there was absolutely amazing. Our busboy or whatever his job title is got my grandma her coffee order, and I could tell that's not really his gig. But, she got it as fast as an amazing coffee could be brewed and delivered. Thanks dude, wish I got his name.
I hope I got Luis' name right. Oh jeez. Ohhh jeez.
I had my leftovers and got the inspiration to write this. Full disclosure here: I've never felt more free and loose. A meal here might help your marriage. Idk, I'm not a doctor, and I went with my grandma.
Frank I'm guessing is no longer with us, wild assumption (85 years), but my oh my if he didn't birth the most amazing Chinese food restaurant I've ever been to, then I'll be a Peking duck.“

“My husband and I are newer to the Sacramento area so we haven’t found too many go-to spots yet. We wanted Chinese food and so I looked up places around us and this one had really good reviews. It was about 20 minutes from where we live. The staff was very very friendly, they checked in with us and asked if we needed anything as we ate. We got two different combination plates and a side of potstickers. The plates come with whatever main item you choose and pork fried rice and chicken chow mein unless you tell them otherwise. The plates were pretty packed, the food was hot/fresh and it was very delicious. The potstickers are fried but not overly crunchy which we like. Very good and affordable compared to other places we looked at. The only downside is there is no restroom and nowhere to go in that little plaza and it smelt like someone was smoking cigarettes in the back. Other than that, it was a great first time experience and we will definitely come back!“

“If you're looking for a place to enjoy delicious and reasonably priced Chinese dim sum, this is a hidden gem you must visit. The dim sum is impressive, featuring classics like har gow, siu mai, and char siu bao, all made with fresh ingredients and bursting with authentic flavors.
The prices are wallet-friendly, making it easy to indulge in multiple dishes without breaking the bank. Each bite reflects the care and expertise of the kitchen staff, elevating even the simplest dishes into something memorable.
The restaurant's atmosphere is warm and welcoming, complemented by a team of attentive and friendly staff who go above and beyond to ensure a pleasant dining experience. Whether you're a dim sum enthusiast or a first-timer, they'll happily guide you through the menu.
Overall, Yi Long Dumpling combines great food, affordability, and excellent service into an experience you’ll want to repeat. Be sure to stop by on the weekend to enjoy those freshly baked buns! Highly recommended!“

“Great little place for good wonton soup! The soup was loaded with wontons and the people were friendly and smiling when they took my order. I also had the potstickers and both the soup and potstickers were excellent. I will be back as a regular customer to try out their varied menu for sure!“

“This is our family’s go to for Chinese food, and has been for years. Food is delicious and workers are friendly.
Kid-friendliness: Usually we order takeout but the times we have eaten here with our young children have been great too. Very kind and accommodating to us every time. The gentleman who works here remembered me and asked how the kids are even when I was just picking up and didn’t have them with me“

“Truly awesome food. Don't let the outside deter you.
I've been coming here for years. The owner, Tony, is a great guy, and makes great food. I recommend the Orange Chicken if you like the crispy sweet/sour/spicy kind of chicken.
Call ahead and place an order. It's takeout only.“

“Friday, 10/25/2024 - Tried "Pho Viet Anh" for dinner for the 1st time. Address is 9529 Folsom Blvd A, Sacramento, CA 95827. They have a nice medium parking lot. We found parking right away. Domino's Pizza is in the front of the building and they are towards the back. Upon arrival....
Pros
1) There was no wait. We seated ourself.
2) the waiter was very nice and patient with us. He let us review the online menu.
3) they didn't provide any hard copy menu. You have to scan the QR code for the menu. It's located on the table.
4) we got the strawberry Lemonade drink ($5.00). It was very tart. A little hard to drink. But we dranked it.
5) We got the large combo pho ($17.00) with the greens on the side. The broth was good. We didn't need to put any of the sauce condiments into the pho broth. We just ate it as is.
6) we got the chicken viet sandwich ($10.20). Sandwich was really good. But watch out. The jalapeño is super spicey. We removed a few jalapeño and the made it less spicey.
7) water tasted good. No funky or metal taste.
8) clean. Our table, chairs, utensils plates, bowls, cups looked clean.
9) they did check on our table to make sure all was good and if we needed anything else.
Cons
1) the menu is small. not much to choose from. But it makes it easier to pick something to eat.
Conclusion
We liked this restaurant. Customer service was great. Food menu is small, but perfect. Made it easier to pick something quickly. Pho was delicious. Chicken viet sandwich was great. Parking was easy. We didn't have any wait time. We'd go here again.“

“One of the last few GREAT Mongolian Grill restaurants in California if not the only one left. I grew up frequenting Mongolian grill restaurants and have enjoyed them my whole life. But unfortunately post covid many shut down and the ones that stayed opened now build the bowls for you, giving you very small portions. This is the only Mongolian grill restaurant that I know that lets actually place the meat, noodles etc in the bowl yourself. Portions and taste is great! Highly Recommend.“

“Drove by this place for years and finally tried it out. Got a lunch special and the price was very good for soup, egg roll, chow mein, shrimp, tea.
Food was great. Portions big--typical of Chinese food. Value can't get any better than $14 for everything I listed above.“

“One of my favorite local restaurants. Always great service and yummy food! Been coming here for a few years now as I used to live in Rosemont. I moved about half an hour away now but I still meet my mom here every couple months. Worth checking out.
Vegetarian options: My family is vegan. I am vegetarian. There's enough options in the vegetable and tofu sections to have a variety of dishes for family style. Also I adore the vegetable tofu soup.
Parking: A few spots directly in front of Jade Garden and it's tucked into a big strip mall so worst case you can park 20 yards away. Plenty of space.“

Will definitely go back :)“

“This was My wife's and I first time coming here. It was far better then I expected. There once was a food place on cottage and Fulton called Wei Weis and it was by far the best ever. They closed when I was a teenager. About 18. I have never found food that tastes the same or is as good UNTIL NOW!!!! I never thought I'd experience such amazing food again and I just did last night. I am SOOO happy I found this place. Its worth every penny. And its honestly so cheap for its quantity and quality. My box was FULL. STUFFED!!! SO HEAVY! And they put your Rice or chow main on bottom then the chicken on top so you get more unlike panda or whatever where they keep it in the tiny little sections. At dinner its about 10 a plate. Depending on what you get. But I got a box of kung pao chicken and chow mains and my wife got orange chicken and chow main then we got an extra box of just chow main to be safe because again its our first time. We wanted to make sure we had enough. Because like panda those boxes aren't even filling my child lol ? but when i got it and opened it I was SOOOO pleased to see HOW MUCH their was. We couldn't even finish our plates!!!! I just had the left overs! Lol but for anyone who needs a REAL review I PROMISE YOU ALL you WILL love it!!! If you aren't sure get that out your head and just go! Im begging you! Let your stomach enjoy this food!!! Id give 10 stars if possible! Enjoy guys!!“

“Excellent quality and flavor. We ordered Siu mai, steamed pork and soup dumplings, but the real stars were the shrimp and pea shoot dumplings. I was definitely surprised about this location at a ghost kitchen and food pick up spot located in the north downtown area. Be aware that this is a automated/screen order venue that only accepts mobile payments and no cash.“

“It will not scream at you, "I am good!" You will have to taste the subtle authentic quality of this food. Same recipes, no cutbacks, after 30+ years at rock bottom prices. Noodle dishes are only $12! It is not "California" Chinese food (spicy, sweet). Mandarin and Cantonese rely more on the flavor of the meat and seafood itself, not tons of spicy sauces.“

“Wings restaurant is such a great place to eat, I came in almost closing time and the young gentleman who took my order was such a good sport about taking my huge order ... For one,.. one person... He made me feel comfortable as well as welcoming to ask "how many days will all this food last... One person? He chuckled and responded with" alot of days." That's the plan I said in return. Lol ... Great place to get some amazing mouth watering grub for the soul.. well and my thighs. Lol
Parking: I am not too fond of downtown Sacramento but this is right off of J Street and it was so easy to get to that location“

“I have traveled from the elven kingdom to this place many times. It is possibly one of the best food establishments the humans have in this local village. They are warm hearted folks that have many a variety of delicious food items in their menu and very reasonably priced for the serving sizes. Always hot and freshly prepared. I have eaten in, and picked up food from this place and will be doing so again.
Kid-friendliness: This is certainly a family friendly restaurant and has some kid menu items. Though is primarily a typical evening dinning restaurant. But they are open for lunch and have a variety of lunch menu items.
Wheelchair accessibility: there are many tables with chairs and could easily accommodate a wheel chair once removed.“

“I love the flavors, authentic chinese dimsum in a typical chinese restaurant set up. The service crew is polite, the dim sum choices and numerous and turn over of new choices is quick. Unfortunately as it's a typical chinese restaurant the ambient noise is so loud especially when the place is full“

“I’ve gotten blue sky before and they’re good. They’re not Panda Express, this is a family mom and pop shop. All in all, I’d say nothing to complain about. I’ve ordered shrimp chow mein and chicken chow mein before. Quality is up there. The chicken is tender and not rubbery like some joints. Although, and I hope I’m wrong, when I called in an order and asked them to have the chicken and chow mein separate (they usually mix it together), the lady over the phone said something along the lines of “oh, uh, well, uh, it’s not that we cook them earlier, but we can’t separate the chicken from the noodles because it cooks that way for flavor.” That got me a little suspicious. Come on…. It’s not like food kept warm is bad, but it sounds like she was being conservative when saying that, making me wonder how old the chow mein really is. Anyways, lol, overall good food. Can’t complain, but nothing to rave about either. 3.7ish, call it a 4 star.“

“Remember when this was a taqueria?
XLB and Siu Mai are high quality with very thin skin. Almost overwhelmingly heavy on the five spice. Beef and broccoli had a lot of garlic (yay!), tender and no weird gristly meat, entree portion in the smaller side. The most citrusy honey walnut shrimp I’ve ever had. The lemon flavor was welcomed.
Love the beautiful jewel tone paint color on the inside. Atmosphere is cozy and casual in a romantic kind of way.
I was expecting a flaky, puff pastry-like pancake (like the kind they had at Young’s in South Sac), but this beef roll was wrapped in a tortilla. I’d pass next time.“

“Service was pleasant, dinning area a little dated but spacious. The food was hot and fresh. I ordered Mongolian Chicken Combo with Pork fried Rice and a side of Pork fried Egg Rolls. The Pork fried rice had NO Pork pieces in it at all, same for the Pork fried Egg Rolls. The dishes were cooked well just missing the Pork pieces. The rice had good flavor but also had dry spots of just white rice. The Mongolian had yellow onions and not green chalets but the flavor was there. Overall the food was good just needed some tweeking so it can match the description on the menu. I will visit again.“

“Food cooked fast and fresh, order ready when I arrived, got the Kung Pao chicken dinner plate with rice and chicken chowmrin and Beef chowfun. I appreciate that the food is light and not too greasy unlike most Chowfun and chowmeins. Prices have gone up which is the only negative I can see but understand it's likely covid driven. Healthier than Panda Express for sure and portions are hooked up!!“

“I was hesitant to order anything other than soup, but the second time here I didn't want soup so I tried the food and it was above my expectations The chow mein was cool in places and broccoli could have been a bit more done, but overall it was good. the honey sesame chicken was tasty. There's a patio section to sit outside,it was a bit dirty with food and trash on the ground. And no extra lighting.“
