“What a find! On our way to international SFO flight, stopped in San Mateo and were delighted by the food, ambience and especially the hosts at La Ronda. The small touches like the crisp tablecloths and napkins, the warm welcome ... and then there's the food. Warm bread served with tasty butter and jalapeno sauce followed by the calamari and lomo saltado. Topped off by arroz con leche. What a beautiful late lunch. Thank you La Ronda for a fun food experience. We will make it a point to return.“

“We had an absolutely lovely experience here! Came for my boyfriend’s birthday, everyone was friendly and attentive. Fantastic high end ambience. The food was almost too beautiful to eat and every one of us thoroughly enjoyed our entrees. One of our guests said it was the best spaghetti he had ever had! The mushroom risotto was perfection. I had the Chilean sea bass and WOW! The salmon was also amazing. The other two guests had roasted chicken and hangar steak… I didn’t get to try them but they looked amazing and everyone cleaned their plate even though we were full lol! We will absolutely be back. “Still the best kept secret in San Mateo. I’m moving tomorrow and this food is what I’m going to miss the most. The portions are generous, the price is affordable, the service can’t be beat. Cash only. Small parking lot. Family owned and operated. The carne asada is delicious! Actually I haven’t had a bad meal here. Take away is available. You won't be disappointed . “Great food and nice people! It’s a family run/owned business. They have a wide selection at low prices! The pho is the best I’ve had in the SF Bay Area! Always a great choice of where to eat.

Nobody asked me to make this post, but this place is a hidden gem and I want people to know.“

“Ordered California Super Nachos with Cabeza to go ($13.68 after tax), which came with free chips. I will say the fries weren't crispy and the guacamole is watery, but this was phenomenal. The meat was so tender and flavorful, and it came with all three salsas which were great (the spicy one is no joke though). The phone orders cut out a lot and it can be a bit hard if you don't speak Spanish, but just try to speak clearly and it will be fine. Really freaking good stuff for the price point.“

“The food was authentic, very affordable prices compared to other dim sum spots in San Mateo. I arrived at 12pm and there were plenty of seats, but the place quickly filled up afterward. There are two menus. I don't know why. I would grab both because some things I usually get are in the other menu.“

Whole chicken slow-smoked for 12 hours. Meat falls off the bone, smoky but not overwhelming. Eat it cold or dip in hot soup – pure heaven. Owner says “finish the chicken, then knock back two shots of baijiu”… I obeyed 😂

“Was looking for Poke for lunch and decided to give the Poke Hose a try. Decided to build my own bowl, Gothic Tuna, and Garlic oyster Tuna for protein, topped with edamame, green onion, avacado and cucumbers. Sauce was Sweet unagi, topped with crispy onion and orange fish eggs. Everything tasted fresh and was delicious. Wasn't a big fan of the sweet unagi sauce, next time I'll stick to my normal, Ponzu sauce. Definitely would recommend giving them a try if your in the mood for Poke.“

I would call at least 45 minutes in advance to order takeout because it can get busy sometimes. They have fresh fish on the menu even, and weekday specials like pineapple buns.
